@@Jhud69 I have sorta mixed feelings on this as an artist because on one hand, I 100% understand and support respecting the artist's wishes, but on the other hand, it's not really a smart move to back out after you've already opened Pandora's box. People aren't entitled to an artist's work, but artists kinda have to accept the consequences of posting our work publicly. One of those consequences is having someone somewhere think to themselves "I wonder what ever happened to that drawing/story/song/etc. I can't find anymore" and go searching for it. This sort of thing is why I have issues deleting my old DA account even though I find it embarrassing - if someone were to ever dig up my cringe then I'd rather them get it from the source so that they can't try to frame it as me having something to hide XD It's easier to just be honest and say "I regret posting this" than to erase it from existence only to have someone salvage an archived version and potentially try to use it to make you look bad. Also this isn't even taking into consideration the fact that some people think back on their old work and decide the concept is good enough that they want to redo it... Only to realize they would have to start entirely from scratch because the originals are deleted and therefore can't be used as reference to build from. So there's one more reason why deleting art you no longer want to share is a stupid idea in retrospect. TLDR: Self-inflicted lost media is just a recipe for unnecessary drama and even if there's no drama factor, the artist may wind up regretting it anyways for other reasons.

I was napping sorry. Edit - My statement: 1. When I was making all this stuff, Artbreeder / AI was relatively new and wasn't as known about. It was more like a toy because at the time it was in a prototype stage and wasn't capable of making more than silly faces. It progressed very quickly and became a hot button issue in less than a year's time, and I was later made aware of the ethical problems and creative bankruptcy of AI. At some point it became impossible to continue Town of Veins without acknowledging that I was doing something ethically irreconcilable. I regret using it now. AI art is not art, and is morally wrong to use. That is my official current stance. I do still like faces a lot (my love of faces is partially why I used it so much), but I either try to draw them myself or pay someone to make them for me. 2. I was quite young and emotionally unstable during this time. I was coping with the loss of my only parent (my mother) which happened two months after leaving high school, which both influenced what I made as well as my actions. Keep in mind that when you look at someone's art, you're looking at their experience. I was erratic, sensitive to feedback (both positive and negative), and struggling with living life without parents at a young age. At some point, a lot of different and terrible things (both in my mind and outside of it) came to a head and I felt the need to hide. The disappearance was not "on purpose". I barely even remember what I did when I was deleting it, I was in a really altered headspace. In the time since, my brain has developed, and I'm much more stable than I was back then. Not to mention thick-skinned. 3. I am a real person. Framing real people's lives as some sort of super mysterious rabbit hole can turn vulnerable people into a spectacle, sort of like those true crime podcasters. If I can acknowledge the ethical problems of AI art, I feel it's fair to also acknowledge this. The main reason I even came out of hiding on this channel is to prevent people from butting into my business trying to uncover "the mystery". Be wary that you don't benefit off of someone else's suffering - our goal as artists and as people should be the adherence to that which benefits all and mitigates harm. I'm actually minoring in ethics in college now, which has helped me to understand these concepts (as well as understand why the rise and usage of AI art should be fought against). 4. Be kind to yourselves, and each other, always. That's it.

As someone who, as an artist, has taken a long-term, possibly permanent pause from creating, this story makes me a bit sad. As you mentioned, I may be projecting, but I know what it’s like to look at all the stuff you’ve made and just… hate it. The urge to delete or burn or destroy everything you’ve ever created and to disappear entirely from the face of the planet, hoping that no one will remember your face or what you made. when we moved out of my childhood home at 16, i threw away all of my older art. even though i study art now, i can count the amount of times ive drawn something out of my own volition and not in class in the past few years on one hand. my art instagram sits dormant for over a year now, probably two+, and i only post said art from class to my main account's story and thats it. i hope i can return to that passion one day, especially because my current dream is tattooing, but who knows. all of that is to say, i really get you and bevusst, if thats the case for her too

Awesome video! This reminds me of Cayeligh Elise a true crime KZbinr who also disappeared. I HAVE A MEMORY OF A LOST CARTOON FROM AROUND 2010 I am 18 years old and I vividly remember a cartoon being on tv around 2010-2011. I remember playing in the floor and seeing this cartoon possibly on a local network or something. If it was a local network, I grew up around that time in the Baton Rouge Louisiana area. The cartoon was built around a family of cats. I can definitely remember a mother cat and a daughter cat. I can’t really remember any other characters but there were for sure more. This episode in particular was about the daughter cat stealing a cupcake from the kitchen when the mother cat told her not to prior. I remember there being a very scary ending to the episode as everything got black and white and showed an almost claymation animation of a man shoving a young boy into a dumpster. I remember this animation catching me off guard as the cartoon I was watching before, was bright and happy. I remember having bad nightmares and being terrified. I don’t think the episode changed as my mom kept the remote high where I couldn’t reach it. I also remember my mom walking into the living room during the disturbing animation and instantly running to the remote and shutting the TV off. I’ve asked my mom about the instance and she doesn’t remember. I’ve looked everywhere and nobody has answered me. Hopefully I can one day find this cartoon and or the scary animation.

I forgot to mention that the cartoon itself was clearly made around 2010 as it was 3d and seemed professionally made. I can only compare the animation style to like cocomelon or something. The scary animation however seemed like it was from the 70s or something as it was in black and white and seemed to have some sort of film damage.

It's wild learning this is lost media now. I watched some House of Aberdeen when it came out and I hadn't really thought of it again until this. I totally forgot about the awesome synths!! Besides the red text and pictures of dark rooms, my memory on the series is fuzzy, but I remember how it made me feel. Not scary, but it gave off a sense of nostalgia and deep loneliness. It was a very specific kind of sadness.

Cool vid, Kylie! Did you have any theories? Personally, I thought the whole world was a fractured subconscious and all the characters were personalities in a DID System, but... like a digitized system. Does that make sense? I thought that had a lot to do with why they never wanted to look in mirrors as well- because it would be the physical body reflecting back, which may be dysmorphic to the personality. There's a lot of symbolism and 4th-wall breaks that I thought could support my theory. But I also thought that a key player in the digitized system might be trying to spread through the internet to collect more "personalities" online. That's probably all a reach though, haha. I don't think we'll ever know. I hope it's not inappropriate that I share.

i think its possible she got some flack for the use ai/artbreeder and took her projects down out of frustration. i've seen a couple other small or independent creators get hate for doing the same thing. as someone who loathes "ai art", i find this reaction to be so counterproductive. yes, using raw ai for art projects can be tacky, lazy, and uncreative but people act like these independent creators are taking jobs away from artists they don't even have the money to pay for in the first place.

Sometimes the dissatisfaction with your work is just too much. I was disappointed when Ivo Gianello got rid of his stuff. The Archives Association was a very understated and great series. But now it's all gone. I never did ask him why. I only ever talked to him on Discord in passing. I suppose I could still ask him but it doesn't matter really. He had his reasons and that's enough. Just like Bevusst. Based on some of the sentiment in the few tweets you show, it could be that platforms like KZbin were just too evil and corporate to work with, which is fair enough.

10 minutes in and Already with the wiping of their internet presence, it gives me huge Heartpuff/Pikiru leaving the internet. ( Heartpuff/Pikiru was a extremely popular artist, if you saw 90’s anime art its a good 90% she made them. People kept tracing her art and she deleted her entire online presence. ) I almost wonder if there was a similar situation with someone copying Bevuss’s work? Or maybe just wanting a fresh start Edit: harassment could be from using AI imagery with art breeder. I know many people were upset when Liminal Land used AI imagery. Other people have mentioned Art Breeder being used, which it does. Honestly Bevuss did so much more and only used the AI for a very small parts, but for some people it can just be a small part that makes people still go under harassment. I’m not saying AI isn’t harmful, however I don’t think Bevuss did it out of malice

24:39 Bevusst didn't just disappear out of nowhere though. At the time, she did make a Community announcement on KZbin which also was removed with the content. Obviously, I don't remember it all. I do remember her saying that it was meant to be a project for a small group of people and she didn't mean for it to get as much attention as it was getting. I felt partially responsible in that because I did collect information about it myself in my watch through and sent it to Nic Nocturne (he is a very nice guy, so I don't think he would have harassed anyone, so please don't infer that) via private Twitter message with the best intentions because I think her work is truly wonderful and it and the artist deserved recognition. I thought it would be motivating and partially blamed myself for Bevusst's, what in my opinion may have been self-sabotage. I have known plenty of artists in my life who make amazing work but have terrible inner critics and will absolutely blow up or abandon projects if it gets too popular, and that's always a bit heartbreaking because I want them to not feel stifled and to feel worthy of what they've earned through their work. I know logically that I didn't do anything wrong because it was put out publicly without any indication otherwise, so I try not to own that guilt. I also probably wasn't the only person who shared Bevusst's work in hope of other people enjoying it and deciphering its in-world mysteries too. I am glad that Bevusst still creates things and hope she continues to, and I'm glad to hear in her recent updates that life seems to be getting better. I will always have a bit of melancholy recalling this project though since it gave me a bit of purpose and excitement in a very bleak and lonely time in my life. I'm grateful for it, and know we're not entitled to it. I thank Bevusst for what we had.

I have some theories: -If there was harassment, it might have been over the faces being AI generated (though back then AI was still fresh enough where it wouldn’t be seen as controversial), various spelling mistakes, or just the fact that the creator is a woman (unfortunately it is the internet after all) -This is an out there theory but full-scale invasion of Ukraine happened in 2022, not sure if it’s confirmed where Bevusst is from but it is possible she could have been from Ukraine and just couldn’t bring it to herself to keep creating with what was going on, and gaining traction from a Russian youtuber, even if positive, might have felt wrong. Or maybe she is Russian and had her own feelings about that too.
