What they meant with that statement was if you have more than $1,400 in your account at the time of the garnishment, and you owe more than that $1400, they can only "recover" up to that $1400. Most of the new debt holders have savings, justifiably banking on stimulus payments to take care of that debt. This allows those people to retain their savings, but is still wholly disrespectful to the american people.

This report is completely false. Unless a debt collector or first party creditor (i.e. Bank or Credit Union) has secured a JUDGMENT in court via a lawsuit filed regarding the debt, no garnishment can take place. This is per the Federal fair debt collection practices act.

And San Francisco has the BART Bay Area Rapid Transit system that has worked pretty well to get people where they need to go around the city. California decided to build a high speed rail system. So far they are millions of dollars over budget and there is still not high speed system and won't be for a very long time. At the same time California roads and freeways have potholes and have not been repaired in years.

DO NOT CALL ANY COLLECTION AGENCY ABOUT YOUR CHECK! Once you talk to them you open the floodgates of collective options they’re hands are pretty tied without talking to you. This station is owned by Graham Holdings Company who own or have financial ties to collections businesses. They have their hands in so many different things that I could make a career researching so I could be 💯 sure. I am sure enough to after looking into them take my chances with being wrong vs being right and silent while people who are hurting have their money taken away by people who have plenty of it🇺🇸🤙🏻

@Peppa Pig Nope. You won't get garnished. In order to get garnished you have to have a court order against you (if it's a private entity you owe money to), or if you owe the government. Owing the government is a unique one too, as it depends on which specific part of the government you owe money to (IRS, DSHS, etc...) For instance, I owe my state about $300 because they claim they overpaid me for an L&I payment from years ago when I was injured on the job. I refused to pay it, and I've never gotten garnished. They send me a letter every couple months but that's about it. I got my full $1,400 stimulus today too
