Just to mention sir,there's no condition given like, a male shouldn't play with another male right!? The only condition is that a couple shouldn't be present in a match. So, The correct explaination is: consider that there are n number of couples, from that, in a match, 4 players can play where in that no couples should be present. So... n c 2 times n-2c2 multiplied with 2 equals 840.and there u get the value of n. Which is 8.and now 2times the n gives 16 players.

Bro this question is wrong to be given in jee. Actually the meaning of mixed doubles is "Two men vs two women", it is a real thing ,but to ask a question about it is wrong as this is not a general knowledge examination.

I understood my mistake IN QUESTION MIXED DOUBLES is mentioned which means in a team one male and one female player should be present so M M Vs F F cases are not valid
