What you do, I consider emotionally difficult because it's all on you whatever happens. You are incredibly resourceful and I am sure at times you have to work at keeping up your mood and enthusiasm up for the inconveniences associated with your lifestyle choice. I hope you had a good time in the healing vibes of the desert of Sedona. Most people are struggling in their 'home' situations as you know, but chances are you are getting the better deal being on the road and spending lots of time outside.

You are not off your game! Love the driving and your commentary. I only spent one winter last winter in the Southwest, and I did not make it to Flagstaff or Sedona. And I appreciate it so much that you actually tell us where you stayed because I’m busy right now in my mind making plans for a future winter. Meanwhile, I am determined to spend the winter in Oregon. I want to play in the snow! But right now it’s raining raining raining (even in the mountains), and I’m wishing I was there where you are. I suspect that all of us who love you will keep watching no matter what you post! Love you.

I go to Sedona often, I'm a photographer and the last time I went, there happened to be a storm and I got some really fantastic shots when it ended and in between it raining and the sun coming out...truly spectacular! I was planning on going there for all the fall colors FINALLY this year but unfortunately I couldn't...now that I got a van that was one of my first destinations but I just couldn't pull it off financially, maybe next year. 89S is stunning, the Oak Creek Canyon does NOT disappoint!

Ah, beautiful drive! Many years ago, before the "New Age" explosion, we drove from Flagstaff to Sedona on that road. It was pretty tricky because there was black ice on the shady sides of the road, but boy, was it ever gorgeous! And Sedona at that time, in the 70's, was small and not built up. We laid out on flat rocks in the river for hours. So cool.

I recall seeing something about a year ago when I was considering going camping up NW of Sedona and forest rd. 525 was mentioned as being excessively crowded and areas were overused so the forest service most likely closed off areas to let them return to a more natural state and also maybe discourage some of the campers.

I managed to get a high clearance minivan...it's called a mazda MPV and it's also got so much head room, I wanted that so I could have a little potty in it because nothing else works (small cups for women cannot do!) and then to my surprise it also had a spot in the back that is a big boxxy rectangular area that dips down below the floor (well, it's not actually BELOW the floor...it's just lower, you can step down into it), you can practically stand up! I'm only 5'2 so it's easier than it is for taller folks...just a recommendation for anyone out there considering van life...they also have a good reliability standing.

Your comment about Oregon and trees reminded me of when my younger brother and his son came to Oregon and visited a few years ago. My nephew kept saying everywhere they went, "trees!" They're from Davis, CA, where it's flat and no trees except those in parks and yards. Thanks for the footage of two places on my bucket list, Sedona and Flagstaff, AZ. I tend to picture all of AZ as desert.

Oh, wow! The autumn leaves on the trees are gorgeous!! When I was a kid, we used to live further south in Australia for a while, in the state of Victoria, and there were some places that were full of beautiful colours in autumn, but now I live about halfway up the east coast of Australia where it’s generally warmer, and so there are hardly any deciduous trees. I miss those autumn colours a lot!

I haven't been to Sedona in years but as a native Arizonian who had family up that way we used to visit it a lot, going all the way back to the 70's. Up until the lmid 80's there used to be pretty much the Safeway, a circkle K and an A &W root Beer. Then you had the slide rock recreation area up in oak creek canyon (89A). The town really started building in the late 80's and by the mid 90's it was a city from what it used to be.

Next time you are around, go to Whole Foods in Flagstaff - much bigger. The prices have really gone up there; I cannot imagine what the prices in Flagstaff are. I will say we recently bought some of the best tangerines ever at WF - so if you are in Sedona for awhile…. There is a dedicated gluten free bakery in Sedona - they had a lot of vegan items when I was there last. They have a Picazzo’s there, too and I am pretty sure they have vegan. I have not eaten there for a while and the Flagstaff one closed - when I was on the road working, we went there every time. In case you come back this way next year, Flagstaff does have a “Leaf-O-Meter”!! You can access it online and with so many elevation changes, it tells you the best fall colors viewing areas. Finally, I know you like that FR 525 - I remember there were some problems. Have you ever checked out Schnebly Hill Road? I cannot remember whether there is camping from Sedona up to the roadblock - I know there is camping from I-17 to the roadblock. Before it was closed it was an amazing drive with viewing pullouts. One last thing, I like it better when you talk instead of just showing the view. Looking forward to the next one!
