I brought ferns home from my grandfather's woods to plant in my garden and I've had them over 30 years. They're very reliable.

I love his face when he said "so if you can't grow ferns, you're certainly doing something wrong"

I must find a Heart's Tongue Fern! They are lovely. I've seen them in catalogs but didn't realize the size. Oh, Happy New Year to you!

I can grow ferns, BUT, mine never seem to get as full as they should. And I've bought spreader ferns like the glade ferns, but they never spread, they died. I have them in shade, and dry conditions. But, leaflitter doesn't stay put like it is in this video. I'm in the US, zone 6a, but most of these ferns in the video are fully hardy for me. I've planted a division of a Hart's tongue fern outside last summer. It looks fine so far. I keep the rest of the fern potted in my greenhouse because YEARS ago, I planted 1 outside in the ground, and it died. This way, I still have a potted one safe in the greenhouse. Maybe some homemade compost around my ferns will help them grow better? Or, perhaps I should let them get older, and then they'll be lusher? Too much shade? I don't know. I did see my "Ostrich fern" has spread babies in 1 spot though, but, it isn't the 3-4 feet tall and wide specimens they could be.

Well now I know I planted my Polypody in an unsuitable spot where it's too damp, would explain why it didn't exactly thrive last year, I'll move it lol

Is it true that ferns are invasive?
@johnlordssecretgarden4 жыл бұрын
Not generally. The most used evergreen shade loving ferns do not run at the root. But some moisture loving non evergreen ferns such as the shuttlecock fern do run and can a problem and bracken is impossible to control.
