This is an opportunity to use some insulating material on those walls. It will dramatically reduce the cost of running the A/C.

Love the channel! We should compare notes on solar power, your sailboat and our off grid kennel. Stay cool out there. Looking forward to seeing how the bedroom turns out!

I got rid of it on my boat pvc shiplap from lowes ,no screws glued pvc strips to wall with 5200 and hot melt it holds it instantly amd allows 5200 to cure. Did same to shiplap 5200 and hot melt to strips ,insulated between strips with foil bubble insulation before shiplap using spray adhesive. Boat looks fantastic and much cooler and quiete. I removed the glue with acetone and a srub pad it all came off

Great video as always! We are also going through the fabric change in the boat, and need to find a good seal replacement for the fridge and freezer. Lori is busy refinishing the teak sump cover by the doors. Flats aren't bad but in between the slats is rough. No shortage of things to do on a boat! Happy 4th, and enjoy all that AC down there!

For the fridge on our RV we turned it off and put a couple pans of boiling water in to help it melt.

Interesting situation with the solar. In marine environment, Mppts do their best when the solar voltage is 2-3 times higher than the nominal bat voltage (eg 24-36v solar for 12v bat bank, 90-150v for 48v bat bank). If the solar voltage is only 6-12v higher than the bat voltage, PWM solar controllers do just fine since very little power is wasted as heat. You might want to get some PWM controllers that can charge 48v bat bank at 45-60 amps as a backup. Residential MPPT setups can have solar voltage maxs in the 400v+ range in order to have smaller wire /longer wire runs, but few cruisers/boat insurance co's would want DC wires running over 72v. As I recall, marine wiring rules change/are more strict for dc voltages over 72v. There are some inexpensive MPPTs that can charge 72v bat banks in case you want more power out of your electric motors in the future. As far as the inside cabin wall- is it possible to grind off the glue and foam as some have suggested, then apply/trowel a thickened polyester/silica paste on wall to provide smooth surface, then gelcoat or epoxy paint. More like modern cats with molded interior walls. Just a thought as an alternative to fabric vinyl wall covering, and if gelcoat/paint outcome is not satisfactory, you can still cover with fabric

Indoor/outdoor carpet to replace vinyl.

The Hobbit Hole might look good with paint that matches the wood. Maybe a wood veneer, or that photographed wood they put on all the new catamarans glued on....its a paper photo of wood. We run a small genset for an air conditioner and that would probably use much less fuel than your big genset. Too bad all your smaller ones got broken. Also our 560ah @12v will run the aircon for the night on the inverter. We have a heck of a charger for bringing the batteries back up to full during the day on the genset.

We started to use outdoor carpet to replace the vinyl in our sail boat. Seems to be working out

Check your door gaskets for air leaks. It's a common cause of rapid frost build up in refrigerators.

I am going to try to use a marine close cell foam called KCEL Extra Large Marine foam 1/4", I have gray but I guess they have other colors. My plan is to glue layers of 2 mil mylar, 30 millicron aluminum foil and laminate floor vapor barrier (pretty cheap where I got it.) to the back of it for various insulations. And I may prime the surface of the hull with Kilz mold and mildew preventative primer.

Here what I did and I tried a lot of stuff. I put up painted 4 inch wood slats with stainless steel screws onto battons I epoxied to the hull. The slats are only a quarter inch thick so they bend easily. And you can do one area at a time. Let me know if you want a picture.
@danknox99866 ай бұрын
You can also put peal and stick insolation between the batons.

Second the wire wheel for removing the foam/adhesive bits
@ChrisHarding-lk3jj6 ай бұрын
The best way to remove old foam and adhesive from the substrate is with an angle grinder and a cupped wire wheel. The trick is to use almost no pressure and just allow your arms to float along as the grinder does it's work.
@phildoller68366 ай бұрын
I used the Norton grinding sander wheel in 50 grit. That works also.Followed up with acetone or 3m adhesive remover.

This sounds like good method, another suggested flapper disc on angle grinder, but I think that too aggressive, don't want to take half the hull off.
@gdiup92416 ай бұрын
IMO, I’d just put your fabric wrapped on panels and screw them on the walls. Kinda like the ceiling on Rivers room. They could be screwed onto some furring strips , velcro? Idk

I think your liner is original. Beneteau installed the same material with foam in all boats in the 1980s.
@crashgilliam59836 ай бұрын
You can use adhesive remover them scrape but you’ll probably have to use a grinder and flapper disk(s) to get all of it off
@crashgilliam59836 ай бұрын
I did that but added insulation foam then the vinyl. Really helps keep heat outside.

I replaced the foam and vinyl interior of my monohull and wrote an article featured in Cruising World Nov 2008. In some places after removing the vinyl I sprayed it with oil based Homax orange peel texture to hide the fiberglass weave. I primed that and overcoated it with a Petit Brightsides with mixed with a mildew inhibitor bought at the paint store kzbin.info/www/bejne/kGS4d4iLmNaUo6Mfeature=shared

Hello I am watching your latest about your freezing problem on your freezers , I'm not a pro but very DIY nolgab , if it was me I would try this , First totally defrost to what air temperature, then take a rag with acetone and whip down, air dry ,and take some a ceramic wax spray for outside use on surface most are none toxic give a coat and polish per the label on the ceramic spray of your choice , it's like protecting your car but in your fridge/ or freezer I've have done this and no problems , it's completely up to you and people will say that it is B,S but too me ( F *** Them ) S o if you do this please make it yours!!
