Well, they definitely like to be run fairly hard and under load. I’ve read it’s good to run a marine diesel full throttle about 10% of the time.

Yes when I was on a navy patrol boat every 24h we spent loitering at low speed we would run the engines up to full speed for 30 to 60 minutes. Otherwise the turbochargers got coked up.

Hot Shot Secrets has a product called Stiction eliminator sold at most automotive retailers as well as wal mart for diesels and gassers it would behoove you to get some and put it in your fuel and oil crankcases outdrive etcetera for better smoother operation 😊

Nice to see the electric scooter gets you most everywhere, even if with some kicking on up hills, The 5K- after the first flat 100 yrds, is a hill- can't get away from them on most Caribbean islands. Decent water flow out of starboard engine, the 170 deg F sounds low to me based on most thermostats being around 185-190F unless your engine's is specified lower. Other than the first hurricane of the season, Grenada seems to be retaining its reputation as safe harbor during hurricane season. I keep reading of new developments in hi capacity/hi density battery technology- can't come soon enough for boat electric motor power storage. As far as battery and electric motors- do you expect to be in the 48v range or higher?

They still do it a couple days a week. Picks up a couple other places too. We’ve never liked it much because it’s only at a specific time, stops other places, and takes quite a while since there are a lot of others with you. Definitely an option though.

We’ve reviewed a few e-bikes and really like them but even the folding ones are too heavy and bulky to get in and out of the dinghy, let alone store on the boat. Maybe if we stayed full time at a marina.

Did you guys ever hear about the story in Key West Florida? An e-bike battery got dunked in saltwater and burst into flames. Woman went into her boat that was on fire from the battery... to save her dog and died. Be careful with lithium batteries on a boat !!!! Maybe someone has more details on that story from local news.

Hey! No I haven't heard that one. I'm sure there are exceptions, but everything I've read (once you get past the sensationalized and exaggerated stuff) is that most lithium ion fires have to do with the chargers. It's still not common at all relative to the vast number of lithium powered stuff out there now. There are even cases of phones bursting into flames. Still, we try to only keep the scooters plugged in until charged and not just leave them hooked up like a lot of people do.
