Works great on cleaning track, Austin, thanks! I also soaked a later two-step reverse unit that was not working, let it dry a few hours, and voila! It now works like brand new! No kidding.

Wow! Thank you for letting us know of this fantastic method. I haven't been active with flyer for some years and didn't know about this. I'll for sure be using this method now! Thank you again!

CRC is a fantastic product. I’ve used it for years on various electronics, and it has worked very well. Great subject, Austin! Keep those repair/maintenance videos coming! 🚂

If only you had told me this when I got my first American Flyer train in 1958. But only the trains and track and I existed back then. I will have to get the CRC 2-26. I started using a different CRC product a few years when I saw one of your previous videos about track cleaning. That one has made a big difference. I have been occasionally spraying it on the front wipers of my track cleaning cars. (For me, the front end of those cars is the end with the barrel which I decided holds the liquid cleaner.)

Marx guy here, as an electrician, I`ve used CRC for years on breaker panels. Most recently on the pins of 027 track junctions.

Discovered this last year and got some at Home Depot in their electrical section. My results are much the same as yours. The conductivity is improved and operations are fun again without much track cleaning. I feel I am about due for another light rub of the rails. Oh, by the way, it is great on reversing units. I also use this on my action cars, lighted and passenger cars for lubricating the axles. It really reduces flicker.

Daves American Flyer has been "preaching" that CRC226 is THE go to cleaner for American Flyer. Looks like he's right. I also haven't been able to find it in the local stores, when I can find some I will definitely be using it. In the mean time, I use Goo Gone. It leaves a film too and prevents oxidation. I don't have to clean my track very often with that. I do need to add electrical feeds on the back of the table because trains slow down over there.

They sell small cans at Home Depot in the electrical section. I just haven't found the large cans like Austin has. I have even used it on my HO layout. I periodically put some on the tempered hardboard pads I made to fit under a couple of box cars. I have no issues on the HO layout since using it.

Great video Austin. 👍👍👍👍 As you already know I use the CRC 2-26. I just don't let it build up on the track like you demonstrated on the video. When I see the build up I take a clean cloth and just wipe it away. When I do clean wheels I usually spray some on a cloth and then wipe the wheels. Unfortunately Home Depot only carries the small cans of CRC 2-26. I would like to get my hands on the big can like you have.

It's been a few years ago now but Walmart has the large can. Recently I notice Menards has an entire section of crc products. And of course Amazon has it.

Austin, yes great stuff. I've been using it for several years now myself. When I first get the track set up each October I clean the track with an abrasive block and then apply CRC 226 to the rail head with a cotton cloth. I don't have to clean the track the entire time the layout us up, which is until the end of January. I also use it to coat the wheels when I clean the rolling stock. If I remove the wheels I soak them in Simple Green and then wash them with dish detergent and then soak them in CRC 226 before reinstalling them. I also use it on all loco and rolling stock shells after cleaning them. It brings out the luster and provides a protective coat.

Hey Austin, good info that everyone could benefit from !!!! I love CRC products. I have a large layout with tunnels and hard to reach places. We use a 948 and spray the front 4 pads. After just a few laps you can see the difference. keep up the good work and looking forward to more videos. Joe

I watched a video by Ron’s Trains and Things that talks about the same idea you are talking about. After cleaning the gunk off the track he uses a product called No-Ox ID and runs a thin coat over the rails and gives more conductivity and helps stop the micro Arcing that causes oxidation on the track. I am trying his technique as I am moving my layout. Can’t wait to see how it works. Maybe give it a look when you get time. Again another great video! Thanks for sharing

Forgot to also mention that I use it to lubricate the reverse unit. If I don't have to completely dismantle the reverse unit, I'll spray on a squirt of CRC 226 and it cleans and lubricates the drum and fingers and provides better electric conductivity.

How timely. I was going to message you to see if you were still using 2-26. I'm redoing my layout and was curious to how this held up. I used it on my old layout with some terrible track and it seemed to do well. My track got the same build up as yours but I didn't know it would not effect the operation. I will also be using your screw technique to attach the track.(at least until I can afford road bed)

Awesome!! I use CRC 226 all the time but not on track (Thank you Dave’s American Flyer Trains). But I’m curious about the lubricant part of CRC. How do the engines perform on grades. I have grades on my layout 3%. Do you see any issues with going up hill?

If it is applied as I demonstrated the rails will not be wet and I have no issues with my 4%+ grades. If it applied too heavy then there will be loss of traction till the rails dry.
