That's terrific. You're a dedicated AF fan, who knows how to innovate novel ideas to make everything come together! Congrats!

You have a big layout! I can only set up a track on the floor if I never have a bed!

Yeh, space can certainly be a problem. We just all work with what we have. I hope you have fun with yours in whatever way you can.

All I have are videos on DVD player and that's it. I live in a 1bdrm tiny apt. No space for any size table at all. I am lucky to have shows like yours and Austin's American Flyer or I am stuck with just looking at my AF trains in boxes. Nothing else can be done because of rules on living in a tiny space that I do not own.

It’s always satisfying to see a video help out another hobbyist. There certainly are many other good ideas out there but use what you can from this. Good luck! Thanks for watching and for your comment.

Roger I can't thank you enough for taking the time to make this video. In November of 2020 I started planning my dream Christmas platform that would have to be portable because after Halloween it goes up, after New Year's it must be taken down and put away. I needed this platform to be able to accommodate the largest radius curves that I could fit in my tiny living room. So using the track planning software on the computer. I made 3 sections completely out of 3/4 plywood. Each section measures 6.5'x4' with 4" sides and 2 supports in the middle. The 3 sections bolt together perfectly making my platform 6.5'x12.5 with the small 5" extension piece that was required in order to fit the track plan perfectly. I attempted to put up the platform last year but it was just too much work for one person to handle so I took it right back down and put it back in the shed. This year i'm going to use your idea for the wiring to make it more simple. Thank you for making this video again Roger! 😊😊

I’m glad you’ll find this useful. The layout you’re talking about is almost exactly the same as mine and, like you, before I worked out the wiring scheme I often delayed putting it up because it was so much work. When you get to working on it, don’t hesitate to contact me if I can help in any way.

@@AFTrainsND Thank you Roger! I will be uploading a video very shortly showing and explaining my plans and progress of the layout. I'm just waiting on Amazon to deliver my cork road-bed.

Thank you so much Roger for taking the time to make this video. As a long time O gauge 3 railer who is just dabbling in AF for the first time, it was very useful for me.

Ahh, come on, I am sure you can work that fast if you want to. Thank you for some very useful information on wiring. This gives fellow hobbyists more options on how to do wiring. Where did you get the ice cream truck in the video at 11:48? Thank you again for sharing your knowledge on such things.

I used to work that fast but I guess I’m starting to mellow! I’m not sure I remember where I got that truck but I think it was from one of those displays that are now common in grocery stores and some other places. Like most of my vehicles and people, it’s 1/48 scale rather than 1/64 but I’m fine with that. Thanks for your comments and for watching.

The original store displays used Fahnestock clips for all of the topside connections. They also had a small typewritten card stapled next to them to indicate what each accessory was.The Fahnestock clip were color coded with a drop of colored paint. I have an original AC Gilbert 1954 - 300 5X9 foot store display that is wired this way. Newark Electronics carries Fahnestock clips at 36 cents each. These are the larger ones. No one seems to make the small ones anymore.

One of my earlier layouts was based upon an American Flyer display layout but I ended up dismantling it and changing to this one. But I do enjoy seeing some of those old displays in action. Some of my switches and controls use Fahnestock clips and I actually considered them for this layout but decided on the posts instead. Both can work so it’s a personal preference. Thanks for watching and for your comments.
