fun fact: this movie was supposed to be in color due to marilyn's contract, but tony curtis and jack lemmon looked "ghoulish" in makeup in color
@JohnSmith475345 жыл бұрын
Actually Billy Wider said that he wanted to make it in black and white because the events take place in the 20's and it adds to that feel of that period. There are coloured pictures of Tony and Jack and they look just fine.

You have to pretend. Billy Wilder said they dressed them in a cartoony drag precisely because if they really tried to make them look like women no one would believe it. Making it less realistic paradoxically makes it more believable. At least for most people.
@ninaschust3694 Жыл бұрын
Billy had to put everyone in costumes, dating it back long enough to allow the two actors to play in drag.

A I i think that’s what makes it funny. someone else said billy wilder made their disguises cartoonishly drag because it makes the joke funnier how oblivious everyone is. i think jack lemmon makes a convincing girl. but that might be because of how much he commits as daphne - almost like a drag queen😆

Yeah, the movie might seem funny, but you need to realize that perversions were introduced to the general populace through humor in the beginning. In the 1950s, most people were repulsed by cross-dressers and homosexuals, so they carefully began exposing people to these things through humor until they got used to the idea. Brings to mind the idea of boiling the frog.

It's always hard for me to believe that the same director/writer who did Double Indemnity and Sunset Blvd. also wrote and directed this trash. I've never been able to sit through it and believe me I've tried.
