Just when I thought I was out, Mattel pulls me back in with the Cartoon Line! And I couldn't be more excited because Filmation is where my love for MOTU began. I prefer this line but they all have their merits. I've heard what figures are coming and it's going to be an awesome 2024!

Yeah, I really love the cartoon, even though serious Motu fans might call it the "spoof" version, I really love them! I love the packaging; They did a great job making it look like the cartoon and feel like an exclusively cartoon He-Man toyline, which I've wanted for years. I found the Cartoon Teela at Walmart and she's instantly one of my favorite figures; I can do something else with all of the Origins parts I collected trying to make a cartoon Teela; They did an excellent job with her! Hope to find duplicates and keep them in their glorious-looking cardbacks :)

I find it very interesting the way that these figures were released. John Erwin voiced both He-Man & Beast Man & Alan Oppenheimer voiced both Skeletor & Man At Arms. Great review and great figures!

I think they look really good...the new torso and the straightened legs really fit the Filmation feel. Must haves... Mer-Man and Hordak... but especially a cartoon She-Ra. And yes, absolutely! Characters we've never seen as figures before. ✨✨✨

His face in the show is usually a pale yellow but sometimes, much more yellow 😂 I think they settled on this yellow just because, from Google image search, ixsaw a more pale yellow in the first few pictures. That's all I think they've done!!!!

I ended up canceling my preorders on these. They look really Filmation-accurate, but my Super7s give me a taste of that while also giving me more of the vintage form factor. I’ll pick up more as we get away from guys I already have. Bring on some PoPs like Adora and Bow or some New Adventures or 200X stuff - that can fit in a Cartoon Collection!

It's a shame you didn't point out that Mattel didn't use the monster hands (from the previous origins Skeletor) on Filmation Skeletor and Beast Man. I wanted to paint Skeletor's claws black to match the cartoon, but Mattel used the He-Man human hands for all the Filmation figures, making this impossible. I can't even swap the hands because the blue skin tone is different. Such a simple mistake that was easily avoided.

I really like the cartoon line, specially as I wasn't into collecting when Classics Filmation figures were being sold, and considering they cost a fortune on 2nd hand market I am willing to get a small downgrade at $20 per figure. :D It is expected that these are not as good as their Classics counterparts though, considering that Classics figures, if sold today with the same quality, would probably cost ~$60-70 at least. For a moment I thought you noticed a silly little mistake Mattel made with one of the masks, Tyrella's mask is made to connect with the male head ball joint and will not connect to the female body. :D

Dan good video and good to hear from you. Man at arms looks really perfect l don't understand the masks of power with skeletor. Now mattel could have given skeletor the axe or diamond Ray of Disappearance to pay homeage to the very episode of the series. I thought that would have been more appropriate for skeletor. Or given skeletor the sword of ancients from masks of power. I am grade Mattel kinda hard because l think they're missing alot of things that could be better. And I am not liking every figure having the same body type. We really didn't see that in the original 80's line. Good video sir

Ok, now I'm scared: thowards the end of the video I was literally thinking "have we ever got a Shokoti in this style?" when you mentioned her... are you telepathic or something? All jokes aside, I think I like this Skeletor better than the toy accurate one: the less flashy head and the better cowl make the difference, for me. Something I also would like to see is some love for the 200X versions of the characters: I love the modern Rattlor (more than the classic one, I know it's heresy but you can't choose what you like) and I can only seem to find him at an affordable price loose and with missing bits. I know that having a modern design refitted for an old graphic sounds dumb, but I would love it nonetheless.

I'm enjoying the Cartoon Collection so far, though I am slightly disappointed in Skeletor's head sculpt. You are correct- the lack of black paint apps and a detailed wash over the skull and teeth takes away from the overall Filmation look. Club Grayskull nailed that look, in my opinion. Also, his HavocStaff should be pink, not purple like his belt and harness. This is also a great opportunity to utilize his proper Filmation bone sword that was packaged with Lizard Man and Ultimates Skeletor in the Classics line. I know that the purple version of the power sword is common with Skeletor figures to emulate the vintage toy, but no where in Filmation did he have a purple power sword. I'm usually not this nitpicky, my apologies LOL! It's just that Skeletor is such an icon, especially in Filmation, so he needs to be done right. 😉 Fan favorite She-Ra, on the other hand, is absolutely fantastic. I never found a She-Ra with the updates knees and the gold vs. yellow is such a huge improvement and gives us much more vintage toy nostalgia.

they look off and they look cheap BUT when you compare them to the others they might be the best. The classics look too lanky in the legs and their heads look too juicy. The 5 inch ones of course look wrong. These from a distance capture them really well.

No, Mattel's Skeletor has a much more accurate head sculpt, and the colours are closer to how he looks in the cartoon. The Super 7 figures had less articulation and were more of a hybrid between the cartoon designs and the vintage figures. He-Man's belt had circles on it, for example, which his Filmation design did not have. Super7's Wave 1 figures also suffered from notoriously fragile hip joints.

Actually, these Filmation figures do not share the shorter squatting bodies with the previous Origins figures. These are 95% new sculpts.

As a kid I always wondered why Man At Arms armor was only on one arm and one leg. I just remember thinking why wouldn't you want both arms and legs protected.

It's inspired by historical armour, like ones worn by samurai and roman legionnaires. They often had more protection on one side of their body, as they knew where attacks would be more likely to hit. They left one arm exposed so they could swing their swords around more easily. The exposed leg made it easier to crouch on that one knee, and their armoured leg would be facing the enemy. If they really needed protection for their exposed side, they would just bring a shield along with them. It was more versatile than a full suit of armour.
