@@eldermindtactics9764 I initially got offered the position, but didn’t pass the background check. I have been on Xanax (prescribed) for the past 5 years and apparently that is a disqualifier for the department that I was applying for. I don’t have any hard feelings and I understand the policy. It is a little disappointing because I was there #1 candidate, but I get it. It wasn’t meant to be even though I really wanted it

Very well said! Thank you so much for taking the time out to make this video. I just had an interview and i felt very intimidated. With that being said I have a lot of regrets now. A very important piece of advice I'd like to offer is just be yourself. Don't try to impress the interviewer.

That is the best advice to give. Thank you

Anthony, Very good advice. As a Mental Health Therapist and as a Military Officer, I have interviewed/screened/assessed/instructed/ordered thousands of people. The authority dynamic and resulting intimidation is always present. The interviewer can ramp it up or play it down, but it is always there. I believe it is best to just accept it as part of the process.

I had my interview on Wednesday and received a email today that they are going move forward to initiate my background check and set up second Interview! I'm so excited! Thank you for the tips!! My first Interview was not as "scary" as I thought. Best advice...be yourself!! Answer truthfully! Yes ask a question at the end. It did help make a connection with the pannel... other then the formal questions they had to ask me.

So nervousness is generally caused by high stakes as in you are really counting on this job or you want it so very bad. OR you lack confidence. Both of these can be exacerbated by phobias like speaking in public or if you are shy. My advice is get confidence by improving your knowledge of the subject matter. So you are being interviewed as entry or with experience and there is a world of difference between the two. Understand that and capitalize on it. Sell yourself by presenting yourself as a necessary solution to their problem which is having an empty position. Practice talking about yourself, practice talking about corrections, practice talking about how you can fit into their scheme. Do things that will prepare you like teach classes. Run through mock interviews, watch taped interviews online. Reach out to those you know want to help! Lastly if you are in corrections, you walk everyday into a living laboratory of human interactions. Talk to inmates about policies, procedures, what is required of them, what you are required to provide to and for them. This helps you with those communication skills and reinforces what you already know about corrections.

@@TierTalk Good verbal skills, good critical thinking skills and the ability to lay out answers to the questions no matter what they are. How to get those skills or improve those skills is key, in my opinion, to giving a good interview. Think, write, speak and listen....all the practice you need!

@@TierTalk I've been told over the years that I have given some exceptional interviews. I think a lot of that came from a familiarity of the subject matter wrought by extensive report writing I did plus the number of inmate interviews I did with gang members and with negotiating between warring factions. Sometimes throwing yourself into the fire yields skills that were not your primary reason for jumping into the middle of it all.

I am looking into this field as a Career. I watch as many video's as I can to obtain as much as I can form people who have experience. This way I can have a step or two ahead of other candidates, not to "show off", but to show that I can go beyond.

I have my app in, I'm only getting nervous about if I hear back from them. I really want to get into law enforcement career. my family and "mentors" in my life were dwelling in life of crime and I want to correct the decisions made by my family's past. I'm becoming a CO as a stepping stone but the more I learn about behind the walls more I think I may remain in the prison rather then going out to become a cop. I'm not even worried if someone else is better I know my worth I've spent months training mentally and physically. I've educated myself on the prison I plan to apply for from how many inmates employees, even their mission statement and inmate guide book.

I have an interview on Thursday. Thank you so much for this video it's helping me a lot. I also would like to ask how should I dress for the interview. They told me business formal but the thing is I don't like dressing business formal and feel like I will be uncomfortable and make me not feel confident, any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate your feedback.
@TierTalk4 жыл бұрын
I would recognized business formal as well. You want to look like a professional. Be advised, wearing a uniform every day is a lot harder than wearing a suit. But I’m sure you could be yourself, even in a uniform and a suit. And by the way you’ve got this.....best of luck and thank you for supporting the channel

There are fears of being judged, and uncertainty, but also a fear that should that interview go badly, it will color the interviewer's future perceptions. Perhaps they may find more opportunities than the one they interviewed for closed. While that is a possibility, it is important to remember that there are other roles, other interviewers, and if you never try for promotion, you may never receive it. in not asking for fear of being held back, a person can hold themselves back. Sometimes a failed interview can result in additional training or mentoring, and positive improvements in work that lead to a promotion later on.

I have had two different oral interviews in two different county’s I have another one in a week and I’m running out of places near to where I live to apply to. It’s frustrating when I don’t know what I did wrong or what I said wrong to correct myself. What can be wrong? I have a friend who got hired when I didn’t and both applied. Later I went with my answers to that friend and they said they’d say the same thing too.

I would equate a correctional officer to a direct support professional (mental health) No, they aren’t 100% the same both they have a lot of similarities. They both are in the rehabilitation services, for one. Two, they both can be physically demanding and long hours. There are more similarities but that was just to name a few. But most of all, neither jobs are for the weak.
