My favourites have to be Raiden II(PC), Phoenix(2600), and Mars Matrix(DC) as they each have some amazingly addictive quality that keeps me coming back for more.

@KollisionBR There's no decent autofire in the Lynx version, either. But anyway usually autofire isn't fast enough for me so I pound the buttons rapidly except in the cases like the PS version where it is plenty fast. As a result, the Jag version ends up being really hard but nowhere near as difficult as the dreaded Lynx version. You literally need to lay the Lynx on your leg as you play since it must be orientated vertically in order to fire at any decent speed.

Thanks for showing a bit of the Lynx in this vid! About the Raiden-port for Lynx: It´s not really messed up, it´s not finished. The title screen mentions the CES. That´s because development was stopped after that show, so Raiden on Lynx is essentially a beta. It was picked up for after market sales by Telegames. I am not even sure the game has an ending, some say it crashes after stage 4. With the Lynx having an active fan community, unfinished games are occasionally released to this day.

I don't really understand why people call vertical and horizontal space shooters separate subgenres when they're literally the same thing rotated a quarter turn. Unless there is some fundamental thing I'm missing, there's basically nothing separating the actual gameplay of the two types. Diagonal shooters, though, that's a different story (Zaxxon) ;)
