There's a lot of classic Sega racers that had 2-to-8 player network capabilities that just aren't ever coming to modern systems. Daytona USA on 360 and PS3 are at least still functional... for now. Who knows when they'll be getting shut down.

@cardsharpHS2 жыл бұрын
You failed to mention that vanilla OutRun 2 was based on the original OutRun with a European theme, while OutRun 2 SP was based on Turbo OutRun with a race across the States (just to reinforce that, it also saw the return of the Rival feature from the 1989 pseudo sequel).

What I love about ALL versions is the fact that "normal" cars are all driving along at about 120mph. Outrun coat 2 coast has become my favorite for sure. Played it to death on the PS3, and then saw it sitting in a cinema lobby as a full sit down arcade. Played it and it was EXACTLY the same. Aced the left route, drifting every corner, with a kid watching over my shoulder with jaw on the floor lol. Good times. I used to be looking for an original Outrun arcade machine for my garage, but now I'd rather have Coast to coast for sure.

I loved Outrunners! I remember playing it at an arcade in a move theater we always went too. After a movie I was playing it and freaking loved it! I remembered seeing it at the rental store for Genesis, so we went to the the rental store they used to have in a lot of Wal-Mart stores and I rented it. I got home popped it in and was extremely dissapointed it was permanently split-screen. I had one other game for Genesis that was like that called Quad Challenge. Both games would have been much better in full screen. Why in the hell would they think it was a good idea to make it like that? Especially considering back then a 32" was a big screen, and you're only getting half the screen with those games.

"I enjoyed this one, despite its massive amount of unacceptable problems. ... One thing I really like is you can change your music." Holy crap. That's Game Sack in a nutshell. Polishing their buffalo chips while tuning up the band on the deck of the Titanic. :-D Holy crap, guys. First you play Sega games, and then 3DO. Even though Dave knows better... he knows Nintendo! You gotta draw a boundary somewhere, brother. I know, I'm being mean. ;-) You guys bring it out! There's a lot of computer versions like C64 and Amiga and a DOS version among others. The definitive one nowdays on PC is a fan-made Windows conversion from the original assembly code called Cannonball, it's arcade perfect with fixed bugs, time trial mode, track editor, 60fps, custom music, widescreen, etc.

@clays121 We didn't forget, we just basically focus on consoles. That's why we didn't include the MASSIVE amount of old-school computer versions as well. I just searched STEAM and the game is no longer available since Sega let the Ferrari license expire.
@napalmhardcore8 жыл бұрын
Seeing how you can now longer get a digital version of Outrun Coast 2 Coast or Online Arcade and there is no guarantee it will return, I decided to order a used copy from Ebay. Licensing issues with video games is probably one of my biggest pet-hates. GRRRR!!!
@WHATISUTUBE8 жыл бұрын
+napalmhardcore Thank GOD for emulation. It keeps games alive whether licensing issues occur or not. As well as scarcity of copies and the like.
@napalmhardcore8 жыл бұрын
+WHATISUTUBE I'm with you 100%. I like to support the industry when I can, but emulation and even pirated digital copies of games that are no longer sold new/digitally and have become rare/not available are absolutely necessary for the preservation of games and keeping them available and playable. Aside from "classics" like those sold to us again and again from the likes of Sega and Nintendo, the industry has little interest in the preservation of old games (after all, it is a business and they're in it to make money). In some cases, even if the interest is there, red tape can prevent it. For example, there are cases of copyright dispute or inability to track down the copyright holder (No One Lives Forever and Golden Eye being good examples) or cases such as racing games with real car brands or officially licensed sports games that use real names and player likenesses. With sports games and racing games there are complications such as athletes no longer being under contract and car brands that may have changed ownership or not exist anymore that make licensing them not possible. To complicate matters further, these games also feature brand sponsors in some cases. Those issues aside, even if they could re-license the content, they'd have to be assured that the game would sell enough to warrant them doing so (and I suspect it wouldn't be worth their while in the vast majority of cases due to retro gaming's slightly niche appeal). If it weren't for MAME/other arcade system emulators and the efforts of people cataloguing ROMs/ISOs, the vast majority of arcade titles would have been left to be forgotten about. The same goes for console/home computer emulators and their software. It would be a real crime for these games to only exist as memories and disappear completely one day. I'm so grateful to emulator authors and people that have taken the time and effort to preserve all these old games, no matter how obscure.

I bought this game for the 360 when it first came out.I've played it offline on the console it was purchased on (like a few days back), no problem.The full game NOT the trial game.According to the video here it suggests you'd only be able to play the trial game when not connected to xbla..All modes are available when not online.Except of course for multiplayer and leaderboards.At least I haven't had a problem getting the full version when not signed in.

The PC version of Coast 2 Coast is the best of all. It's permanently 60fps with none of the horrible choppiness/frame drops of the console ports and you get to use Steering Wheel/Pedal peripherals also unlike on console. Despite buying the PS2 version at launch, the PC port is the only home version I'll play. And I play it every summer.

I had the Commodore 64 port of the original Out Run when I was young, the SID version of Magical Sound Shower always gets me in a good mood. I also purchased the Sega Classics Collection solely for Out Run, and pre-ordered Coast 2 Coast for the PlayStation 2. This game is amazing on the Switch. You can freely choose difficulty and time limit, old and new track layouts, music and even some unlockable stuff for your car that helps with steering and makes collisions less punishing (there are more unlockables but I don't have them because I kinda suck at the game)

Fun show :p & it's great to hear people who were here too back then. I am a huge OutRun fan & know about most of the home ports as well as the Arcade original. The Saturn version is superb, as expected. & before it the Mega Drive port was a very good & very accurate home incarnation with great soundtrack rendition! & IMO the exclusive track, Step on Beat, is on par with Magical Sound Shower but my fav' will always remain Splash Wave & Passing Breeze. Also this port has a refined car animation which looks better than the Arcade version + a kinda furious, hidden Hyper mode. A great package. The PC Engine port plays well but Joe, it seems that you didn't notice how lacking it is! Gone are the voices; the ocean & therefore the surfers; the clouds at Cloudy Mountain stage, the double traffic lane at Autobahn stage; the doppler effect; etc etc... Overall i was rather disappointed with this version. Oh & about "Why games companies release broken games?", heh, ask to the ones who have released the awful SNES ports of Raiden; Pit-Fighter or Sengoku Denshō! ;> Themed videos are great, i hope you'll do more of them!
@NiGHTS19806 жыл бұрын
I love the original Outrun and thought Sega could never top it. Then I played Outrun 2 on the original Xbox and was blown away by how awesome it was. They captured and retained the magic of the original 86 classic while upgrading it to the 21st century with 3D graphics and a new spin on the formula. That was very hard to do but Sega pulled it off. I'm waiting patiently for an Outrun 3. Come on Sega...
@KesMonkey7 жыл бұрын
With regard to your comment about OutRun Online Arcade, the reason you can only play a trial version of the game unless you're logged in to Xbox Live is because you bought the game on a different 360 to the one you're playing it on. You need to transfer the licence to your new 360. Google will help you here. :)

You guys forgot to mention that OutRun Coast To Coast 2006 was also released to the PC, and can now be had via STEAM network, but the online no longer works, as SEGA felt the cost of keeping the servers running where not worth it, and it has issues with some newer hardware, in which it runs way too fast without some tweaks, but the music in in .OGG, and is awesome on the go, when converted to Mp3.
