Oh please, do NOT ditch that backdrop. It just lends such atmosphere and ambiance. Everything you showed us today is amazing. I can't even choose a favorite... My thrift shops are all full of junk that we refer to as "Ed's Stuff". (As in Cousin Eddie, Ed Norton, Ed Gein 😱...) And not in a cool way! Anyway, you have once again made the day better, brighter, and a lot more fun. For some reason, the dancing gals on the Butterick pattern just make me laugh out loud! Thanks Scott...❤

How serendipitous. I was actually looking at a stemmed custard cup earlier today that I was trying to date. Just how do you tell the difference?

Love the Flint glass and the tobacco barrel. Once I found a whale oil lamp in a thrift store for $1! And I found a circa 1820s silver sugar bowl for a quarter at a garage sale. ( I remember that it was 25 cents because it was the last thing I bought that day and I was looking under the car mats for enough change to buy it) It sold on Ebay for over $400 about 15 years ago. I had no idea it was that valuable. Those were the days when people knew antiques and appreciated them. I love true antiques the early 1800s are my favorite before everything got so gaudy in the Victorian era.

I guess I'll take the ancestors test I received for Christmas. I love LOVE lamps. Ambient Light pooling across the floor, softening the corners... I detest ceiling lights preferring to have lots of task lighting in floor, swag, and all manner of ambient lamps. My favorite is cracked glass~I put a clear crackle globe over a squaty electric candle in a iron basket compote with a ton of glass fruit heavy on the grapes. It lives on the fridge and its light spills across every surface. Refracked light from the globe swirls up even the ceiling. Scott, I KNEW your lamp. I had an overwhelming thrill~the kind a certain song gives you, like Ellen Green going full voice in Suddenly Seymore. The first time I heard Les Misérables in person. Since I have seen your counter space and the lamp isn't there...tomorrow I'll be thrilled there is a magical lamp like that in the world. Today. Well. I'm gobsmacked.

@oldcuriosityshop265
@oldcuriosityshop265 4 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen many tea caddys over the years and I almost always find the interiors lined in tin or some type of foil or just natural wood. This small chest has it’s original interior completely lined in velvet with a nice “deep” pile. Also, the number and various sizes to the drawers would suggest a jewelry chest. Also on tea caddys I often see interior wooden lids covering the deep individual compartments designed to hold the different teas. I’d love to know your thoughts that lead you towards tea caddy? I’m a coffee drinker but still love a nice cup of tea! 🙂

The Old Curiosity Shop Hi! Well, because of the side doors which would hold some sort of glass. Also regency period decanters and tea caddy were lined with velvet to protect the glass, porcelain, and/or silver teaspoons. Seems too large to the time period for jewelry, and wrong configuration. But it could have been a commissioned piece. Who knows!
