Brian knows so much about the golf swing and he's constantly educating himself. I was a handle dragging aspirant until I discovered Brian and tried to decipher Dr. Nesbit's technical papers. It was kinda like taking the SAT's. Brian really gets it and has imparted his knowledge to others, for free on the internet. I would greatly benefit from a private lesson. The beta torque concept, the one I understood first, was a quantum leap for my swing. I had spent so much time trying to exactly mimic the swing in TGM positional terms without a reasonable understanding as to why the positions happen vis a vis a highly competent swing. Once beta was incorporated, everything went left, hard. Slowly, like glacial, I'm beginning to understand the relation to alpha and gamma and I went from a 140 yard seven iron carry to 155, 160+ if I really step on it. I swear, this understanding of the torques in a golf swing is a big, huge deal. Hogan's "secret" was probably the earliest understanding of these torques and he reluctantly (for very good reason)wouldn't divulge, but he gave us the treasure map. Look at his bowed left wrist as he starts the downswing. It appears like an early application of gamma torque that is still present at impact. And how his right elbow and right hip "fire" while he's pretty square to the ball-target line. The hands are pulled in closer to the body as beta is applied, and he exits with the shaft well bellow the left shoulder. Ben Hogan had the Mona Lisa of swings and was one of the best EVER. Take a look and let me know if I have this right, or wrong, or somewher in between. Thank You, Brian.

Couldn't agree more with 5:30-6:20. I teach with motion sensors and sometimes it is the worst thing to talk about (to a novice).

Great avenue Brian...I'm cherry picking your work from Enso and the way you are putting some other thoughts together. On a personal note, the idea of the "beta torque" is really hitting home with me. Almost reminds me of 10 years ago when I was heavily influenced by a Ballard disciple - the inner pull and outer push. More recently I've been influenced by more "modern" thoughts, ie "dragging ye ol' handle", and man I'm getting tired of floppy hooks. More beta halfway down feels so much stronger, as the club gets on the (old school) shaft plane and I can take strong, square divots...and even hit bullet fades! Looking forward to more...

What's the difference between handle dragging and this go normal thingy you're talking about in terms of what position you would be at impact and the affects it would have on ball flight etc?
