Great info! 6500rpm is plenty of spin for 95% of pitch shot. Trying to get 8000rpm means wrist hinge and steep swing path...high risk especially for the average golfers.

I remember engaging with Mr Mayo - Dr Loomis/tallvolfan - on golfwrx in 2009 a few months after he said he’d just taken up the game. ‘Closed clubfaces don’t cause hooks’. Don’t know if he meant negative face to path doesn’t cause a push draw. Anyway, he says hit 10 down I’m hitting level! What does ten down do to spin loft, leading edge jamming into the deck, impact on wrists… no thanks.

This is an old video, I know, but I respect the honesty in saying that teaching pros got it wrong. Those hooks you’re talking about kept me from taking my game to a higher level after college and made me quit the game for almost a decade. The swing that I was taught relied on timing and it wasn’t until I started researching the swing in depth, on my own, that I learned a better way to hit a golf ball. Face angle and plane are what matters, and “swinging down the line,” or “shaking hands with the target,” do no one any favors in those two areas. Excellent explanation and examples, sir. Well done.

If I just straighten the right arm gradually in the downswing doesn’t that square the clubface and shallow the club at the same time? Like a bicep curl. So just curl the right arm up in the backswing and uncurl in the downswing without moving the elbow around would while rotating the body would shallow the club square the clubface without much manipulation of the shaft and having any conscience effort to square the clubface.

That'll help, but it will come up far far short of squaring.

Thanks. This has been puzzling me for years. You see pros always on that back toe like some kind of ballarina. But when you see historic old golfers, hitting the gutty a mile, they were on their flat back foot. I guess it's just "style" points for the ballarina position.

Anytime force is put on the shaft that isn’t in line with the shaft interrupts angler momentum. Angular momentum allows the club to swing without interruption. Thanks

thanks Brian for this brief video on flying wedge concept. as you show it is relatively easy to have body rotate shoulder, chest, torso and maintain the angle till impact. but that was a swing for a short chip shot. try the same flying wedge with a full swing and it is difficult to maintain.if you have some camera angle behind you with tracman showing trajectory of ball flight, then it would be convincing. keep up the instructions. by the way what about the device you demonstrated months ago on wrist flexion and extension, any follow up with full swing. thanks John

Brian, Brian, Brian. I think there's a much better way than MANIPULATING THE FACE OF THE CLUB during a one second time interval. The ball is on the ground in golf. In order to hit the ball, which is on the ground...OR DOWN...you must swing DOWN. You never swing in any kind of horizontal direction. The golf shaft droops downward when swung properly. Tiger figured this out in 2000 and that's how he went from great to GREATEST. The wrists cock up and down and the club face never rotates by using your hands. It rotates by turning your upper body clockwise and then counter-clockwise as you smash the club into the ground. Keeping the hands in front of your body and THE LEADING EDGE PARALLEL WITH YOUR SPINE is the best way to describe this. From the top of the back (up) swing, think of pointing the butt of the grip outside of your right hip as your rotate around to the left toward impact. No manipulating of the face!! Smash down from a fully cocked wrist position and hard as you want...but not toward the ball....smash straight down and rotate upper body through all the way around to the left. Your shots will fly further and straighter than you can imagine. Again, look for a video called "Tiger's Secret" where he appeared on THE GOLF CHANNEL with Butch. That's the move that made him unbeatable. Once you understand and get this move, adjust your grip as necessary for direction. Also, since you've already made a video on the D-plane, review that because it's part of the equation. All this really works, bro'!!!

I notice a secondary high upward movement of arms after his left arm is straight and high but still tangent to the backward swing plane that allows his club face to drop below horizontal and pointing to right of target in in this secondary steeper swing plane.

My elbow flys a little naturally which I believe causes me to get steep and over the top to stop coming over the top i try to start the club with my hands and arms going back and down I feel if I pull with my body my chest will open to soon everyone say you want your arms to get to ball before buttons on shirt move. Can you give a little more detail on the pulling. Thx

Brian, wow. Thank you for this. I think this has been one of my major swing flaws. I tend to hit behind the ball. I THOUGHT is was from getting the club too far behind me. I fixed that, and kept the club in front of my chest, even at the top of my turn. I could NOT figure out why I was STILL hitting behind the ball on my practice swings. I figured out it was too much right side bend. Can't wait to try this drill. I think it will get me hitting them pure again! Thank you for this simple, practical explanation and drill.

Hi Brian, this video is exactly for me thank you...My right foot (heel) stays entirely on the ground definitely to the impact. However, at impact I am like at address so shoulder and hips square and level etc. So, no release of the trailing side to pivot I think is the cause...Keeping my right foot on the ground could be the real cause? I would appreciate if you could comment...thank you
