Beebear ik, I go to a private christian school, we aren't funded, I don't plan on playing next year which will break my 4 years of playing streak bc I don't want to risk head injury, I get horrible headaches and need to see a chiropractor for neck and back issues from hitting.

nate childers nate childers A) I am not spoiled, can't really prove it to you so I guess you'll just have to take my word for it. B) I play for a private league. We are required to buy all of our own equipment. So as you can imagine I don't get the best equipment. C) I'm starting freshman wide receiver and back up running back. Obviously not fat lol. You don't need to worry about getting epilepsy. Bench warmers rarely get hurt🙂

This isn't news. We had helmets that were 5-6 years old, and those were considered good. I had to drop nearly $500 to get something that didn't feel like stone hitting my head. They're really expensive, and schools don't have the cash for stuff like this.

Im playing american football in germany and we dont get the helmets from our club but we can rent the gear for 15 dollars a year, i played one game with the rented helmet, tackled someone with a not really that hard of a hit and everything that was white turned green for a minute or so...nowi bought a riddel revo speed and I had got some hard hits and I also done a few hard hits but I have never had more than a mild headache after a game and I even only had that one time now

Proper tackling technique is what prevents concussions. Helmet to helmet at high speeds can result in concussions, whereas tackling the legs or hips of an opponent has a very low risk of concussion. We’ve essentially hit a plateau in helmet safety at this point.

About 85% of our helmets are 2009 or 2010. we have some Riddell helmets from 2013,2014, or 2016. but those are hardly given out. and since we’re also on the freshman team we mostly get the older stuff. JV and Varsity get the nicer stuff.

I'm a freshman this season and we have a big mix of old and new schutt and riddell helmets also mixed in with Rawlings. Most of us Freshman get the Schutt's, for instance like the DNA Pro, Air XP's etc. our JV and Varsity get the Speed, Speedflex's, Vengeances etc. same with Varsity. Next year i'm buying my own helmet. Our school takes the expensive helmets and puts the varsity school markings etc on them and ours (plain white, black facemask) are usually the older ones.

Schools can’t afford new helmets, a speed flex is $450 a piece. My school is fourtunate to have 2016 revo speeds but that is extremely lucky for us, this news report needs to realize not everyone has 450$ dollars to throw around for something that you may only use for like a year to two years depending on your age.

Maybe companies should invest in a new external material that isn't hard plastic that's causing these concussions to begin with? Players are human missiles and when they do this, it doesn't matter WHAT's underneath, concussion. If the material on the outside can be changed it will force kids to tackle better instead of going for headshots. I also want to suggest fines for schools/coaches for allowing students to go for headshots instead of tackling, force schools to coach their kids how to tackle better and you'll see an instant reduction of concussions, especially with the threat fines/suspensions.

The proper fit is far more important than the rating. A 2 star helmet that fits correctly is far better than a 5 star that doesn't fit quite right but has a higher rating. It is also important to look at who is sponsoring the testing. If Riddell is sponsoring the tests you can bet the results are based on tests that the Riddell helmets are particularly good at.

They don't realize that helmets aren't made to protect players from concussions, they're made to protect the head from a skull fracture, or shit like that. Really, the only way to not get a concussion is to teach players to hit the right way, almost all concussions happen from players necks whipping back and forth, not because they were hit in the head.

LOL this is so sad, we just watched a 3:25 video about concussion concern, safety and helmet technology, and we heard interviews from a Virginia tech professor and a NOCSE rep, but there was no mention of the most important issue and factor in preventing concussion: technique. Kids just don't know proper form and technique when it comes to hitting and tackling. They just want to do whats fun and showy, we don't teach good form anymore. The end of the video said it itself very clearly at the end, there is no such thing as a concussion-proof helmet. Changing helmet technology will only take you so far...like making a bullet proof vest, theres always a higher power bullet or caliber that will eventually break the vest. This, in a lot of ways is like the gun argument. The knee jerk reaction is simply to get rid of guns or changes how they work to make them "safer" but there is no mention of truly effective preventative measures like gun safety or mental health education. Same goes for tackling, why not invest a little more in teaching better tackling form and technique...I think youll find its a more effective and less expensive way to prevent injury,
