I love the little details (aka “hacks”) that the Grappling Academy is always providing. I’ve found that the tidbits I get here have improved my game far more than learning completely new moves off of KZbin. Probably because the feedback loop in live rolls is so simple and immediate. It’s like a regression analysis where you can concentrate on a specific dependent variables. With complex new moves you can never be sure what went wrong and when. Keep up your great service! It’s very much appreciated. (Blue Belt from San Francisco, CA, USA)

Thank you so much Professor Tom, this worked a treat on escaping mount from purple belt(am a white), then subbed him with an Ezekiel with the technique you demonstrated on another video 🙏

The bridge up to prevent side post then roll to the side part is genius. I just got back from a competition in the unlimited weight class (I am 5'11" tall and 230lbs and I was the smallest guy in my weight class. Most were 250lbs+) and I got stuck being mounted a few times and this video explains why I had a hard time escaping mount. Definitely going to try this. So hard to escape mount and overcome an arm post from a 270lb guy who can bench press a truck. Many thanks to Coach Tom all the way from the USA! Best BJJ channel on KZbin!

This helps me understand why sometimes I pull this off and other times struggle and get nowhere. This move is covered in the Gracie’s Combatives DVDs but don’t remember these details.

Good video, I tried to bride and roll a guy who is just very big and psyically strong and when he posted his hand out it did not work, this will give me leverage I need to succeed

Really nice detail. One thing I have come to learn is when it comes to technique the devil is in the detail. Oss!

interesting concept leaving that leg straight out. I will try it. obvious downside is you only have one leg to power your bridge. do you find that matters against bigger guys?
@TheGrapplingAcademy7 жыл бұрын
I think the bridging power lost isn't as much as you would think, however as a rule, I like to do this version against smaller more savvy opponent's and the regular foot placement against heavier less technical guys! Have fun on the mats (-: Coach Tom
@cm12127 жыл бұрын
ah but then what do you use against heavier more technical guys? I'm trying to get used to just doing nothing and waiting for the attack to open something up but that has its own risks
@TheGrapplingAcademy7 жыл бұрын
Obviously, in a perfect BJJ world, no one would ever be able to escape mount. Certainly at higher levels, escapes are less and less common because you are meant to be dominated from dominant positions. Hence why we learnt o get there in the first place but never give up trying to escape! (-: Coach Tom

thx---- yes demoralizing after a year and you can only get the move to work 30% of the time against guys who have been rolling a month. That's why you leave your ego at the door!

the trap and roll i was taught by Rener Gracie, the opponent can't base his leg out if when you trap the leg you bridge, toe to the mat first then "click" your heel down to the mat. if you get it deep with the "click" he can't base out with his leg. then again if it's not working for you and the opponent bases that leg you have a pretty easy elbow escape.
