In my mind, to be 12 years old and in 1971 again. The opening riff, the horns and Betty Wright’s distinctive voice makes this song a classic.

This was fun. Some more 70s (some early 80s) female r&b songs to check out: Ann peebles - I can’t stand the rain, come to mama; Angela bofill - I try, this time I’ll be sweeter, what I wouldn’t do (for the love of you); Phyllis hyman - you know how to love me, somewhere in my lifetime; Brenda Russell - way back when, so good, so right; Deniece Williams - free; Minnie riperton - inside my love; Marlena shaw - go away little boy; Dorothy moore - misty blue; Candi staton - young hearts run free; Emotions - flowers, don’t ask my neighbors, I don’t wanna lose your love

Yes! HELL YEAH! A tremendous vocalist, songwriter and producer. She also ran a children's choir down in her hometown of MIAMI, FL. Did you know, she was the absolute favorite female singer of the QUEEN OF SOUL, ARETHA FRANKLIN? And the she mentored countless female artists such as JOSS STONE and many others. One of things I like about real musicians is they know what the fans think they know. Real musicians really know who's about that life with the talent to back it up, and MS. B( As she was affectionately known!) could definitely bring it! You should also check out her, "NO PAIN, NO GAIN" and " TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT!" As well as a new artist suggestion for your FEMALE FRIDAY! I suggest, THE QUEEN OF THE BLUES, MS. KOKO TAYLOR and her 1960's hit song, "WANG DANG DOODLE?" Great video! Great Reaction! We love and miss you, MS. B! R.I.P!

Betty Wright had great soul music in the 70's with songs such as Clean Up Woman and Tonight Is The Night. Betty made a comeback in the mid 80's with two songs that were both parts of a story about love and pain. She showed off her dynamic vocal range in both songs, and her high notes are comparable to none, not even Mariah Carey. The first song was titled No Pain, No Gain. The second song was titled After The Pain. There is a video on KZbin titled Betty Wright - Pain & After The Pain Live, and it is 24:38 in length. The video was made at one of Betty's live concert performances in 1992. This video is Betty doing an extra extended live version of After The Pain, in which she interacts with audience members and showcases her musicians and background vocalist by giving them each solos. In her words, it was her own musical soap opera. It is a must-see as Betty puts on a clinic in how to do a live performance.

Check out the song by Richard "Dimples" Fields called "She's Got Papers On Me". Betty Wright is at the end of the track, and it also had answer songs by other singers like Barbara Mason & Shirley Brown. Betty Wright, Michael Jackson, & 2 members of The O'Jays (Walter Williams, Eddie Levert) sing background on Stevie Wonder's "All I Do" from 1980. Stevie wrote it, but it was originally released by Tammi Terrell in the 1960s.
