Excellent list! The one thing I worry about is being complacent - or normalcy bias - in my local area. I feel that the places I have driven by a thousand times are ones that I am less likely to be alert about. I am much more likely to be "on my guard" in a new place that I am not familiar with.

This kinda off topic. But we live in north central Minnesota. We us propane for heating our home. We prebuy or propane in July at a lower cost. So when or 500 gallon tank is at 28% . We call to get the propane a tank refilled. We called for a tank fill. But were informed by or propane provider that. They would only bring 200 gallons per customer. Because the major propane pipeline was unable to provide enough propane. Has anyone one else run into this issue. Kinda strange? Got us thinking! Thanks.
@ModernRefugee5 күн бұрын
I have heard of that before. They also do that to residential customers during corn drying season. The big farms get the propane first.
@terrystroble86573 күн бұрын
In my experience and years of using propane the amount charged for prebuying ended up being more because the price had gone down. It is kind of a gamble. I understand they usually won't deliver small quantities without a service charge but if you prebought the gas should belong to you....

Good points as usual. I found a counties map of Mi, published by DeLorme Pub Co back in o6. It identified all the rail, power and gas lines in our state as well. I color highlited all the different routes from my area to eastern and north eastern Mi I may need to get to. Then I copied them off and laminated in 8x11. You can lay them all out together for a big picture or use one at a time. They stowaway neatly in the hydration sleeve of my pack. Food for thought.. Ive done the same with Indiana and Ky, where other loved ones may be.

@@MichiganSilverBack that is correct, the old ones are MUCH better. I regret not buying the full "managers set" about 25-30 years ago when I had the opportunity. It was ALL 50 states. I also visited "Eartha" in the massive 3 story globe in the lobby of Delorme in Maine when we visited family up there a few times. Like a pilgrimage for a map person. Good morning, M R . Yes. A lot of stores will allow you to get cash back. But oftentimes they will only allow that onve in a 24 hour period. Good snacks are important...not no energy snacks ... Forget cheese puffs. Go for the ones with protein like snickers with nuts or jerky or dried fruits with nutrients we tend to forget we need in stressful situations. Popcorn is better than chips because of it's crunch being as if not more satisfying. Water, definitely use whatever you find. Lots definitely going on. Helps to know morse code AND trail signals, too. Letting go of stress by joking is very beneficial. Thanks, M R

Just watched this docudrama from the History Channel titled "After Armageddon: Will Mankind Turn To Violance after the Apocalypse." They did a pretty good job covering quit a few things. I've been working on a truck camper build, they are fairly small and offer many benefits. RV's are much easier to set up for off grid than an entire house. They can also be used as extra space for others in need or that may need to be quarantined. I'm documenting the build on this platform on the down low to help share ideas, just don't want my neighbors knowing to much. Thanks for sharing your notes.

This was great advice .. and I'm going to add that you may need to create your own diversion in order to have a window of opportunity. I parked in back of a McDonalds .. walked around to the front .. was noticing "activity" at the door .. a younger guy was standing their with "bright mischievous eyes" holding the door open for some older people .. as I'm talking to the girl behind the counter .. she seemed focused upon what was going on out front. When I asked her for a milkshake she said the machine wasn't working. I was feeling uneasy .. and turned to walk out the front door then to the right .. sitting on a barrier was a gang member (??) who wasn't there before .. he asked me for some "spare change" .. and I told him I gave mine to his friend at the door .. and he went to see his friend .. but I used that opportunity to walk quickly around to my truck and get out of the area!

Always keep your gas tank as close to full as possible. I have a landline hooked to the computer modem. That may or may not work if cell service goes down. If the debit card system doesn't work, the gas station may have an ATM, and that might work. The attendant might tell you.
