Phil, this video is fantastic! Such simple ideas for very little money. Your decades living on a narrowboat will give a lot of information worth listening to for other boaters! We have really enjoyed this video, even though it isn't your normal cruising, we will gladly watch both styles of video (every time) when you make them. 🥰😍🤩☺

Thanks Phil, really useful stuff here. I think you've triggered a national shortage of fire bricks! 😉

Another good tip.. if you have any metal like an old 56 pound weights if you put that on top or next to your stove and when it gets warm that will radiate heat it's like a battery but for heat..

Great help!.When I lived completely off grid .before I had any cook stove at all.. I baked bread on top of our woodstove using 2 stainless bowls one on top of the other..any roasting pan will work with a lid..there's always a way if your inventive...and you most assuredly are..Thanks!😊

I'm thinking a steak with onions and pepper wrapped in foil would be great for cooking in the ash pan. One thing I tried with my wood stove, is to put a couple flat rocks on it and then put it at the foot of my bed. It did work radiating the heat by my feet.

I have found that a cast iron dutch oven is a great way to cook things on my full sized wood stove if I am already using the oven for something else. So I think that if you can get one for one of these smaller stoves it could serve as an oven.

Excellent information Phil. On our fire old Kent log fire at home, during the winter we regularly cook casseroles or similar on top of the fire in the pressure cooker. It also heats the hot water cylinder. It's very efficient, and cuts the power bill in half. Take care Phil.

Great tips, we have been using our stove the same way and the heating of water certainly saves the gas. We also use the stove for drying and airing clothes, warming plates before dinner and drying kindling ( never bought any just hunt round for it).

I started last year on the tin foil thing because I didn't know what was behind the tiles and I notised there was extremely hot. so from a safety standpoint I thought I will put tin foil on both sides using the foil tape to stick it on. The amount of reflective heat is amazingly the aluminium foil itself is cold..... And the in the summer I just take the tin foil off. As pointed out Phil, I sometimes watch your videos to see what's ahead of me on my travels. I am currently at wrenbury at the electric lift bridge, you will be glad to know that the CRT have moved the control box to the correct side and installed automatic gates👍As your video from 2019 shows the box on the other side and manual gates.. 👍👍

Hi Phil All good Ideas to keep warm and stop wasting heat, I noticed that the Drips that you have came from the cap on your kettle, can't you close the cap or is it broken to save staining, OR remove it , Cheers

You may already know that there are stove fans that will fix and work from the flue pipe, seeing you don't have room on the stove top.

Great vlog Phil. Some really useful information. Just one question, does your curtain at the top get warm from the heat of the flu?.. cheers Phil, keep safe.. only asking because for some reason the flu outlet on my boat comes down in front off my window. But have not installed the stove yet...

It doesn't get hot but you can buy fire retardant spray to treat curtains etc.
