18:41 The reason Kirby's Dream Collection had the E-10 Rating. Supposedly, I heard that even the ESRB was unaware of the blood from Zero. It's pretty surprising. I think I know you'll enjoy Kirby 64 a lot more since its a bit more energetic than the other 2 games with Dark Matter and the mix and match abilities is alot of fun. 😊 19:48 A small correction. While Sakurai is of course the director of Super Star, sadly, he had no involvement in the remake due to him leaving HAL Laboratory Inc 4 years before. 20:10 About the music, I think you should rather listen to the original SNES soundtrack. While the DS version isn't too bad, it sounded too watered down and weaker due to converting SNES quality music to a smaller system. It definitely shows when you compare the remake exclusive music (like Masked Dedede's theme) sounding WAY better and totally different than the remade tracks. 25:52 Just wait till Kirby & the Amazing Mirror. That game will finally answer that. 😊 And while I do prefer the remake alot more, there's something about the original Super Star I still like a bit more that I can't describe it. Personally, I feel like Johnny is more consistent with his content and he isn’t overtly controversial (or just have a lack of controversy) to my knowledge. Those two qualities are important to me, personally. Granted they aren’t the only criteria but they do stand out. Also British media Bully’s points about Johnny being laid back, good critiquing and such makes me feel like he’s the only reviewer I can go back to when most reviewers I don’t feel like returning to for some reason or another. That’s about it, I guess.
@JD260A95 жыл бұрын
Deuce Moncura Yes, I am referring to Jared and Jon, but moreso in terms of their personal youtube channels not Normal Boots. I said previously that this is more of a personal thing, so perhaps I should explain further: for me personally, Johnny is the only 2010s video game reviewer youtuber I really care about going into 2020. I stopped caring about Jon because his content became boring to me, Jared was fine until that whole debacle earlier this past year, Completionist changed up his channel in a way I thought wasn’t right...so I guess I shouldn’t have blanket stated Johnny’s the “last of the great reviewers” because clearly they are all still there and making content people enjoy. But personally, Johnny’s all I got left. So far.

What I like most about Bandana Dee is that, he appeared as early as the first Super Star, but nobody even noticed him. Some 10 years later, he's now a fan favorite and sort of a main character starting with Return to Dreamland. Oh, they poorly explain how Plasma works. You don't charge by rotating the D-Pad, you only need to mash the directions. You can also do it while guarding, which freezes you in place, to keep you from flying all over the place.

KDL2's bosses in general are great. Mr.Shine and Mr.Bright, Kracko, that fish from World 3, DeDeDe and Dark Matter are all well designed and/or improve on what was in previous games. Whispy is a little less of a pushover and Ice Dragon is kinda fun. Big Forest's bossfight is kinda boring, though.
@GIR1775 жыл бұрын
30:02 It's really easy to charge up Plasma on the 3DS because you can just do the rotations on the circle pad. You can also charge it while guarding to stop yourself from moving around, though Hammer's definitely as reliable and overpowered as it's always been without needing that much work.

I used to speed run the first, giving myself challanges of only using one power or only one companion where possible and it was a blast. Fun Pak allowed me to play with my brother and later on to show each and every one of my gfs what playing Nintendo games was all about: fun and quarreling over Megatomatoes. Yes, my brother used to take 'em and run away. Yes, I also did that on occasion.

Super Star always felt like the Mario 3 to Adventure's Mario 1. Taking all the core elements previously introduced and expanding them out to the point where it pretty much codified the format of the most popular games afterward. In addition to coming out so late in the Super Nintendo's lifespan, I think that's why DL3 has been left somewhat forgotten in comparison to the game that came before it; after the explosion of content in Super Star, a quieter and simpler title was always going to feel a bit of a letdown.

Kirby super star was the first game i ever played, it came with my super nintendo. So i have a really big emotional attachment to it. Its one of those games i will defend to the end of my life, i'm glad you liked it, i only have to disagree with criticizing each individual game for being so short, not realizing the full potential of the ideas. I actually really like that they are so short, the ideas never get tyring. Kirby super star is one of few games that i always finish in one sitting, i think its because that addicting nature. I am constantly stimulated with so much different stuff that i have to keep going. I never agreed with the "8 games in 1" slogan, is more like if every world in a mario game had very different mechanics and progression. And i think thats really cool, Sakurai really showed up his creativity with this game
@jacklindsey84005 жыл бұрын
agreed, I may not have gotten it with my snes but I've had it since I was a kid and still adore the game, though my copy liked to glitch and erase the file when I waited a few years to go back to it... so I got tired of great cave offensive and always rushed through it to unlock milky way wishes.
@diegog18535 жыл бұрын
@@jacklindsey8400 lol i had the same exact problem, my super star cartridge stoped saving even as i was a child still playing on my snes. To be honest it was a blessing in disguise, it made us complete it multiple times, since we didn't have to worry about erasing a 100% file. And you know, i didn't like that much the great cave offensive when i was a child, but i since learned to appreciate its more open nature, now its one of my favorite parts of the game to speed run since you never stop moving and you have to memorize the position of chests and the method to get to them. I also appreciate how can you can just skip the majority of it, including the whole castle, pretty bold for the time if you ask me. Designing some huge sections with intricate design and even unique bosses, and then giving the player the choice to just skip all of it, knowing that they would likely won't since the game is so much fun. Thats putting some big trust in the player
@jacklindsey84005 жыл бұрын
@@diegog1853 Agreed, did yours also had a glitchy health bar? I could never tell how much health I had after getting hit so that made beating Arena mode extra fun! When I got Ultra a few years back I did appreciate Great Cave a lot more, before I just resented it for keeping me from my favorite of the games, but now I can appreciate it for what it is. Though, I've also found that loving this game has made getting into some other Kirby games harder for me, when I tried to play Squeak Squad I was bored stiff because it didn't have the move set that I was expecting.
@diegog18535 жыл бұрын
@@jacklindsey8400 No, mine doesn't have that glitch. But yeah i agree, there hasn't been any big steps to move the series forward since, every game pretty much copies the super star formula, but with a standard gameplay and then some mini games. Without sakurai, no one is brave enough to experiment, while i'm sure he would have reinvented the formula several times if he was making kirby games still. Kirby super star is like a showcase of ideas for kirby games, but still no one takes them, they just keep making the same safe reach the flag with three optional coins to grab kind of game. Planet robobot was neat, even though it was kind of just reintroducing the animal buddies but with a robotsuit, and star allies just reintroduces a worst version of the mixing abilities thing form 64. I honestly want to see a 3D adventure game or even a collect-a-thon starring kirby. No the same thing sakurai already threw away 25 years ago

In defense of KDL2, its level design becomes more devious as it goes, something only that game does. Johnny mentioned the killer autoscrolling stage, but my favorite example is the airshaft room in Cloudy Park. You spawn in the center of the room with a current blowing you upward. Enemies fly and zigzag on the left and right, which may instinctively cause you to panic and weave around. You're likely to get hit if you do this. If you stay put, however, nothing will hit you. There are many examples throughout the game where the devs knew the player would try X, so something unexpected happens to complicate things and/or keep things fresh.
