I tried using Coo/Pitch to get up there, and kept trying to reuse the ability in midair when the flight ran out. At one point, Rick showed up. And, in my attempt to fly, thinking it was Coo/Pitch, I started climbing.

Fun fact: When you inhale enemies you can push a button to lift them over your head much like when you discard a power. You get different results depending on what type of enemy you're holding. Flying enemies will let you glide through the air while holding them, for example. When you lift the sea anemone enemy, it will keep shooting bullets in the air that you can use to kill other enemies. Nobody ever talks about this feature, but that's probably because it doesn't have much in the way of utility compared to the combo powers.

If I remember correctly, one of the official kirby history/art books states that Zero and 02 are NOT the same entity...which threw me for a loop. But there's gotta be some connection between the two (hence the bandage and the name), perhaps the eye itself is different. Dreamland 3 does show Zero abandoning its body after you damage it enough.

Honestly, I think the game feels incomplete since it was initially designed with the 64DD addon. That explains why there aren't many stages and things just missing like the animal companions from the previous games in the Dark Matter trilogy.

Not an excuse. Majora's Mask was designed with the DD in mind. Besides, the whole of Kirby 64 is only 9 megabytes when compressed. They could've done so much more within the limits of their 32-megabyte game card, but I guess they ran out of time?

Tbh I think it’s the perfect length. Short and sweet. Easy to go back and get all the collectibles for true ending. There’s too many games that tout their length or how many hours you can play them, but not every hour is going to have the same quality. The length I think is perfect so that you can enjoy nearly the entire game with every area having enough creative difference to not get boring.

i really like zero in general. an actually creepy final boss for kirby at the time(still honestly find him and the dreamland games in general to have a rather unsettling feel for nintendo with some of the enemies and bosses like king dedede's stomach opening compared to other games which feel more epic and bright with the final boss being dark backstory-wise.) and pretty shocking for a nintendo game to show blood at the levels zero two did alongside zero's eye bursting out.

it wasnt my 1st kirby game(that honor goes to adventure.:3) but it was what made me really love the kirby series world and its music is still cherished in my heart and i love the characters it introduced like the fairy queen, adelienes new look and ribbon(i love ribbon and kirby's interactions, they're the closest kirby has had to a romantic interaction and compared to other nintendo couples were at times it ambigous or not explored its cute for how simple and sweet it is.:3) i really hope the next kirby game brings back the other characters and cutscenes for each world like this, dreamland 3 and nightmare in dreamlands intro's.

If you count it, Kirby Air Ride is a full 3D Kirby game, especially City Trial mode, where you can actually get off the warp star and run/jump around (although you can't suck up bad guys when you're not on the star).

3:14 - The other games that used the D-Pad for movement was mostly wrestling games, most famously the 4-Horsemen of N64 Wrestling Games by AKI aka WCW vs nWo World Tour, WCW/nWo Revenge, WWF WrestleMania 2000, and WWF No Mercy. There are more such as WWF WarZone and WWF Attitude, but I think you meant in terms of platforming. The only other game I can think of that uses the D-Pad for movement in the platforming genre on the N64 is Mischief Makers. It allows you to use either the D-Pad or Analog Stick

Tony Hawk games for the N64 allowed the dpad to be used or the analog stick. Being a game very focused on input combos, playing with the analog stick is definitely worse

You can use the "remove power star thingy" input for more than just setting up power combinations - you can also use it to hold enemies you haven't swallowed yet, and occasionally make use of their individual behaviors, like swimming, or shooting projectiles. It's pretty fun to mess around with.

Can’t wait for your next Kirby video. Kirby and the Amazing Mirror is the only Kirby game I consistently come back to for a good time. It love that it does away with the level progression and leaves it up to the player on how they want to approach the game. It has so much replay value, I wish they’d try that style for Kirby again. 2:57 I just want to appreciate how much effort went into making all these fairies, these characters we see for all of a few seconds at the beginning and end of the game, look so distinct from one another. For an N64 title, especially one that isn't Zelda, that is a stupendous amount of effort for background characters. Mario would have just used a bunch of generic Toads. But Kirby 64? They went that extra mile. And they have my respect for it.

for the bow and arrow one, you can hold the button and Kirby will draw back further so you can shoot for further away. But you have to get a feel for the distance in order to make it ideal.

Fun fact - the same set-up that lets you carry the powers over your head also lets you carry enemies over your head after you suck them up. This is actually pretty cool, as some of the enemies have special powers when held like that. For instance, the maraca guy will deflect projectiles, the fire toad will now breathe fire on your enemies, and the sea anemone will intermittently shoot at things above you.

The first Kirby I played (actually ended up getting this instead of the GBA e-reader, good choice there), and honestly it's the only one I've thoroughly enjoyed. The powerup system and shard puzzles add just enough depth and variety to keep me engaged every time. I love the environments and music as well, it's just an overall very appealing package imo.

This was my childhood, I adore the cutscenes in-between worlds x) I remember, as a kid, I used to think "Man, I'll never be able to 100% it!"... and nowadays, I just casually do it whenever I revisit the game. The wonders of growing up. I LOVE the music in this game, or at least its soundfont. The percussions or whatever sound so great, original or not, pretty much any track played in this game is my favorite rendition of it x)

I think Kirby's Air Ride was a sort of prototype 3D Kirby game when it was in concept. While classified as a racing game, in City Trial, you can jump off your vehicle and wander around on foot as Kirby in a 3D environment. This also happens if your vehicle is destroyed and you need to find another one on foot.

@Camden Cox I agree with you 100%. It kills enemies and heals you. There's no limit to it either. I think I once beat the whole game with only the Fridge (except for the parts where you have to use another power)
