Peace Walker is honestly my favorite Metal Gear game. It was the first game I played on my PSP and well into the HD Edition of the title. The story is excellent and not so complex, the emotions running high(Heaven's Divide and the final missions leave me an emotional wreck), the gameplay is superb(it helps that the game caters to MGS4 fans control-wise) and the multiplayer is always loads of fun. I know, some of the other entries like MGS5 and 4 are objectively better in some aspects, but Peace Walker will forever hold a special place in my heart as a fan of the series.

Peace Walker will always be my favourite MGS game. As much as I love MGS3 Peace Walker just has such a nostalgic feeling to it that I love it above all else. And in my opinion once you know the saga it's even more feeling ensuing than MGS3. MGS3 is about Naked Snake becoming Big Boss, Peace Walker is about Big Boss being a broken older man trying to move on then finally accepting what he is and the role he will play for decades to come, Not Big Boss, But the true successor the The Boss (even with how wrong he was about that), He becomes Snake. Just Snake. Mantling the legend but not accepting the title of Big Boss himself. This finishes with (in my opinion) MGS5 where he accepts the title of Big Boss to create Outer Heaven leading into MGS2.

So Johnny, I have a feeling that your plot synopsis of MGSV is going to VERRRY closely resemble this one. Phantom Pain has the same story issues with the final chapter not knowing how to end properly, is poorly paced, and is unfortunately a bit grindy with repetitive missions. At least it's not as bad as Peace Walker.

Plus it only takes a minute at most to organize your staff and check r&d for new weapons and itens that are available for development.

His plan wasn't to start a nuclear war, it was to prove that all human beings controlling the nukes were too kind or cowardly to actually end the world even in retaliation for the death of everyone they love. Basically he was asserting that if the Russians nuked the US the people in charge of the nukes would simply say "Well, I guess the rest of the world is going to speak Russian." rather than actually pulling the trigger and getting revenge before dying themselves.

Still my favorite MGS game. Fluent combat mechanics, difficult sneaking missions, TONS of extra ops that aren't all cookie cutter copies (I'm looking at you, Phantom Pain), and a nice, campy story that felt more like the MGS3 days when NANOMACHINES, SON and MUH PARASITES weren't a thing. Just Snake, the strongest supporting cast the series has EVER had, and some actually robots to shoot the shit out of. Say what you want about Sahelanthropus, but Peace Walker is IMO the BEST metal gear (even if technically it isn't) in the series. The way it attacks you at every range, the nuclear missile countdowns, the DRILL MISSILES, the over-the top roars and most of all the AMAZING SCORE just make it the best boss battle I have ever played. I hoped for 5 years that MGSV would be essentially a next-gen Peace Walker, and it kinda was. Where it improved in control, graphics and online (PW's online was neat, but no one played it, let's be real AD HOC Party was shite) gameplay, it lacked in variety, storytelling, and most importantly, energy. Metal Gear's campiness was pivotal in mixing the over-the-top action sequences with drama and colorful characters. Miller(Robert Atkin Downes) performed as well as I hoped, but Troy Baker as Ocelot seemed almost devoid of the sadistic, cooky humor of the old Russian torture specialist I remembered from MGS1, 2 and 4. Snake (or Venom, or BB's Phantom, WHATEVER) did well in the dramatic role, but I never felt that he was turning EVIL for God's sake. The cut Chapter 3 kinda hints at it but at that point the transition is almost too sudden. He's good ol' day saving BB and then he's willing to leave Eli to die of an accidental shot Snake hit him with. Less tragic hero and more just plain asshole. Plus scumbag Huey. Plus Chico getting axed and Amanda not giving two shits. Plus Paz and the unwarranted, brutal end she meets. Plus no fightable custom Metal Gear with vocaloid (I MADE IT SING A-HA FOR THE LOVE OF GOD). Somehow despite PW being a portable game, the wide range of environments and excellent use of guard positioning and alternate routes made the game feel far larger to me than the barren wasteland of Afghanistan and the rainy mudplain that is Africa in MGSV. MGS:PW 9.5/10 (Endgame is hard-as-balls but rewarding, too much info on cassettes) MGSV:GZ 7/10 (TOO DAMN SHORT) MGSV:PP 7.5/10 (Engame's even worse, abysmal story, too much damn travel, but amazing gameplay, would've been an 8+ if they'd just put GZ into MGSV, even if it was to be released a whole year later)

I would have looked at Ground Zeroes together with Peace Walker since its basically the ending of Peace Walker. But great marathon, loved every video!
