I think that Buneary having a base friendship value of 0 and being the only Pokemon to naturally learn frustration is not so much so it can have a strong move right off the bat because it would be useless because walking around and winning battles (the main reason to catch Pokemon) would decrease the power of frustration making it useless. I think it's the best way game freak could convey that Buneary literally hates it's trainer without making it disobey you which make evolving it harder which can make you feel like your bond with Buneary feel more personal which rewards your care for this Pokemon that previously hated you with a Pokemon that loves you being Lopunny which is the only Pokemon that naturally learns return which is the complete opposite of frustration.

In the manga they actually explain that Charon had basically captured Cyrus with the man simply choosing not to escape and wanting to see what direction Charon would take the organization in. Once all is said and done though Cyrus escapes his imprisonment and essentially vamooses never to be seen again.

since gen 4 is my favorite, i really am happy for them to get there shit together and stop acting like some indie dev b team. there is solo and fan projects out there with more heart and polish than Sword and Shield. they can reuse Haus animations, but they cant reuse gamecube and wii assets? they can literally lie and say "we cut pokemon to give the new ones better animations" then have the same move used by a gen 8 pokemon be stilted and no animation compared to even N64 moves? there response to the backlash has been poor on all fronts, and they basically admitted that there more concerned with there new town project than they are a mainline pokemon game. i genuinely hope sword and shield gets less than 4/10 on all review sites. because they clearly do not care.

Personally, I always figured that despite what he says, Cyrus just stayed in the Distortion World, especially given a more recent anime special that implied that the Distortion world is more or less what he wanted. Also it's hard to find, but there is dialogue that implies that emotional neglect is a supporting factor to his nihilism.

Actually Regigigas isn't an event Pokemon. You only require the Regi trio. They can either be obtained by catching them in Platinum by obtaining an Event Regigas (kinda redundant) or trading over the trio from Gen 3.

Level 1 Regigigas is also the most adorable thing ever. Just make sure to have false swipe, otherwise you're not going to be catching the thing within the next few centuries.

Generation 4, as a whole, is my favorite generation of Pokémon ever. I say “as a whole” because not only are its main games top-notch, it also had some of my favorite Pokémon, the best spinoffs (Ranger, Explorers, BR), and the best arc of the anime. Plus, childhood nostalgia definitely helped.

It's one of the most strongest basic Pokemon game. And that's why I prefer it to going back to OrAs, FRLG/Let's Go, and HGSS, and the big reason why...? The Dex is much stronger than HGSS, because most of the mons I usually want are either post game, exclusive to platinum, daily events with the radio, and most annoyingly, the placements and time limits of the Safari zone. (I spent... 2 months waiting in hgss before going to Kanto for a bloody bagon, because I was too stubborn to change my clock. That is flawed game design, that no one ever complains about) At least in platinum if you have the DS lite you have a much easier time collecting the rare ones by simply having the gba cartridge of their respective game. Hell if you have emerald for some reason you have a high chance of snagging a free Gengar in eterna forest, that was the first time I have ever used one

Fun fact: there'd actually one house in one of the last cities of the game where a random NPC heavily implies he's Cyrus's grandfather and that he considered taking him away from his parents due to the unhealthy excess of pressure they had put him into, which is pretty sad in hindsight.

I know Gen 4 has a lot of problems, but this is near and dear to me. This is my first generation of Pokémon. I watched all of the Diamond and Pearl series, and me and my Chimchar/Monferno had such good adventures together. The Sinnoh Region is my home and I will always have a soft spot for this game. I spent the most hours of Pokemon playing Platinum back in middle school. Over 300 in fact. It was definitely the Gen where I got the most fun out of, from battling and training legally questionable Pokemon with my friends, to the music, and almost being able to fill up my Dex. I just needed to see one of Clamperl's evolution and I would have seen 'em all. And i did so many of the events, it was great. If Gen 3 introduced me to the Pokemon games and gave me my first adventure where I bonded with my cousin, then Gen 4 was the first Gen that helped me bond with my friends and helped solidify me as an avid Pokemon fan.

When I played Explorers of Sky, I really didn't like the game. I'm curious to know what about the game is appealing to those who like it. Maybe I'm just missing something, or maybe I just don't like dungeon crawlers. Here's why I didn't like it: I didn't like how long and obnoxious later dungeons got, some spanning upwards to three hours. I didn't like how deaths were extremely punishing, stripping you of resources necessary to clear said obnoxious dungeons. Floor traps made traversing dungeons a paranoia filled slog where I was afraid of getting poisoned or stickied because I walked on a wrong tile with no indication of it being bad. I know they're traps, but the status effects or debuffs can make an already painful experience even worse and it dissuades me from exploring the mystery dungeons because the longer I explore a floor, the more likely it is I run into a trap. I hated the limited inventory system. I think that the resource management does not belong in a game that encourages you to explore everything. If I find something that's useful, I want to be able to collect the reward for exploring. Having to deal with clunky menus to carefully manage resources was not only a pace breaker, but also made the game unnecessarily harder by preventing me from overly stocking up on healing items, revives, and stat increasing items that I found while exploring. I thought it looked and sounded like a middle of the road GBA game. I know it's an enhanced version of a game from 2007, but the sprites and models in DP looked so much better. I liked how the game gave you the opportunity to build your own adventure squad, but I didn't like how often it removed this feature for story missions. Story spoilers ahead: I thought the ending was like the game shot itself in the head narratively. It undermined the heavily foreshadowed sacrifice of the player character and undermined the partner character's arc of developing from a scared weakling to a confident explorer. It built up the final confrontation as needing a necessary sacrifice, but the writers didn't have the balls to actually kill off the player character. To me, it seemed like the story was compromised to enable a post game that was mediocre and uninteresting.

@@derekwalter4238 For one thing, the story is better than Rescue Team's. Sky has bonus episodes that weren't in the original two Explorers games, so it has more content. And the game that followed it, Gates to Infinity, has a lot of design annoyances, like having less than 200 Pokemon available in it and not being able to see much of what's around you in a dungeon due to the camera being to zoomed in. Aside from that, I didn't find the story nearly as engaging as Explorer's. I hear Super is good, but I was so disappointed by Gates to Infinity that I didn't even bother when it came out.

Gen4 is easily top3 gens for me along with Gen2 and Gen6. It was just a blast to playthrough. Great environments and the best legendary in Giratina. It was awesome. Difficulty was built up in this game with tons of trainers that you had to beat making it more satisfying to play through.

And it being literally what he's using to summon them, which not only does that, but also controls them and bends them to his will. All just so they don't need to be caught by Pokeballs, which he says would cause them to lose their powers anyway, which is needed to bend time and space in a way so he can create a new universe. So you see, unlike Archie and Maxie, he actually comes up with a proper plan to handle the situation. Although one red chain (created from the Lake Trio's essence that he had them captured for) can only summon one of the Legendary Dragons at a time. So in Diamond and Pearl, that's why you end up only with one to deal with. In Platinum, you stop him before the second is made, so he had to make an artificial one for the other in some way, what a mad genius he is. The Lake Trio usually show up to destroy the red chain, preventing Cyrus from giving the order of erasing the universe for a new one by the power of the Legendary Dragon, but in Platinum the two of them proven to be too much to handle. So Giratina comes in and stops the disruption of balance itself.

I do want to say, concerning the spin-offs, Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky definitely has the most engaging story, and I definitely do think there's something there to enjoy. Ranger wasn't popular when it came out from what I recall, but it was a pretty fun game in spite of it's simple mechanics. Regardless I do hope you play Explorers of Sky- the game is phenomenal and your don't need the first game for context.

I revisited Explorers of Sky (and the first game, too, which I loved as a kid) and, talking strictly gameplay, I find them boring and weirdly handled/balanced as far as mixing the Pokémon and Mystery Dungeon formulae. When you review Gen 5, I suggest you play the sequel that is the same color as the first game (example: Black 1->Black 2). This is mostly for consistency in the story, since this gen has heavy emphasis on it. Also, when you beat the first game, you will be able to import a bit of your save data to the sequel, which will cause NPCs to reference the previous protagonists name(instead of being referenced with vague terms like 'They'), and you will unlock special cutscenes/flashbacks that show what happened between the games.

I would like to point out that Regigigas wasn't an event pokemon, you have to transfer Regirock/Registeel/Regice from a gen 3 game to obtain it. There was, however, a special event Regigigas that allowed you to catch the 3 golems in the game normally. Also, I would like to say that there is a DNS you can enter into your gen 4/5 games wi-fi settings that re-instates mystery gift and the gts.

For your Gen 5 playthrough : - Snivy will have a tougher time overall than the other two starters, especially for the later gyms. I'd advise you to run a more defensive moveset, since it won't be that great of a standard attacker. - Tepig is easier to use than Snivy, thanks to its better offensive moveset. However, while it has both more and higher highs than its Grass-type counterpart, its low points really require the use of Pokémon which cover its weaknesses well, much like Snivy. - Oshawott is the easiest starter to use out of those three, I think, and usually does rather well in important battles, but mind its average speed. It's a nice mixed attacker for your playthrough.

A bit of advice for Gen 5, regardless of which Starter you pick. Starting in Gen 5 (I believe), every starter has a hidden move they can learn via the Move Rememberer. For example the Oshawott line learns Megahorn via this method. It's not super important to remember but it is nice to know.

one of the things I remember most clearly about this this game (or diamond, technically, but whatever) is that you can/ have to polish your badges with the ds-stylus to keep them shiny. ... that, and Cynthia being the no. 1 champ.
