You should take Beau to the vet, get him microchipped and fixed, and quite frankly, you should bring him inside. If you still want him to hang out with you in the yard, that's fine. But he'd probably be happier being in with the dogs. And he could be the perfect friend for Maggie, they just need to get used to each others' play styles.

Now you’ve got yourselves a house warming cat, but to be fair to him and give a small amount of heat in his own room you might want to install a low power light bulb inside the box. You’ll know if he approves of it if he sleeps directly beneath it or off to the opposite end of the box.

Hope the cat will be allowed indoors. I've cat flap so my cats can come and go. He has enjoyed being loved as it comes and loves attention. It needs to be neutered . So happy it has his claws. Totally cruel , declawing, illegal and not done here in the UK. Hope he is allowed indoors,. Looks like he will enjoy being a lap cat. Good the dogs and cat getting along together 😊

The Cat Distribution System decided you all needed a cat to feel fulfilled! He looks like he might have been outside for a little while, judging by the back of his head and neck are a bit dirty. And Beau (or Bo?) is a great name for him. I'm so glad that him and Maggie get on well too. If she annoys him too much, he will probably tell her what for, but he must be feeling safe to have rolled on his back and exposed his belly like that. Cats will only do that when they're comfortable and feel safe.

He should be allowed to discipline Maggie if she bothers him. He won't blind her or attack in a frenzy. She'll feel enough discomfort that she will understand and both animals will be more comfortable with each other. I have 11 dogs and 6 cats.

Congratulations on having been adopted/chosen. From his behaviour, I would say that Beau/Bo has had some sort of hooman interaction before. So, next steps would be to get him neutered (stops him spraying everywhere to mark his territory- believe me, it stinks), and at the same time get him microchipped and a flea treatment. i am sure that his life as an outside cat will last about a week once he has been fixed!!

It's so sad when people dump animals we had a cat dumped in our street last year I fed and looked after him until I could get him in a sanctuary he had bladder issues that was easily fixed by medication the microchip in him had been cleared of information his owners clearly didn't want to be found he was a beautiful friendly cat and so very scared Bad news was I couldn't keep him Good news is he was adopted from the sanctuary and got the meds he needed

If you plan on keeping him as an outside cat, please get him an insulated place. That plastic box doesn't do much, except for wind. And if you decide to let him inside, get him neutered, so he doesn't "mark" his territory... it smells so bad 😅 Cats are awesome! And it's amazing that he gets along with your dogs ❤

Just make sure to worm him and keep him flea free so the dogs don't bring fleas into the new house. Fleas will live in soft furnishing/carpets until any warm body passes by to feed off, even you and Anna.

I once read a book called SOMEWHERE A CAT IS WAITING .it was about a couple who had a farm and one night they hear a cat outside their front door , funnily enough it was a ginger cat too , I think they called him something like fern or bracken for autumnal foliage ,the man in the book said often there are strays that just turn up when they know there is a possible home . I love that you took this cat in , I do believe it will bring you luck .

Only concern i have is maybe Coyotes being near your property. Beau may be able to fend off a fox, but Coyotes and other predators may see him as easy pickings. Keep his Tote under your door stairs with the door facing the steps. Easy for Beau to get in and out off but not so easy for larger predators. Can put a metal peg outside each corner of the Tote so it doesnt tip over in high wind. He will make a great mouser for you for sure, after showing him the love. Id get him neutered, wormed, deflead and chipped, so that when you have better weather and your house door is open he can go in and out the house to investigate it without the hassle of him spraying etc. Then he can stay out at night.

Definitely seems like it was dumped, usually feral cats wouldn't come close to you and be receptive to your touch so readily. So glad it found you two. Please don't get him declawed, I know some people do over there but cats rely on their claws for climbing among other things. And I don't think it will be an indoor cat ever so it'll need them. I would also add be careful feeding him dog food, as cats are pure predators whereas dogs can digest vegetable and plant matter too. Dogs can eat cat food but cats cannot eat dog food. Get him a can of tuna if you can't find cat food maybe. Cats tend to love it

Get him to a vet for checkup / vaccines/ deworming/ flea treatement / claw trimming. Then let him inside. The antics between you 5 ( soon to be 6 ( puppy) will be fabulous. To make that shelter so it protects your cat more effectively from the cold weather you'd need to insulate it with something like styrofoam then line it with reflective emergency blankets, raise it off the ground and put a flap on the entrance. That should do and keep your kitty toasty and warm on the coldest nights until you're able to make a better shelter or get him neutered and housetrained.

Ah I love this 😻 My parents live in Spain now (prev UK) and have been adopted by 6 cats in total. They are all outdoor cats, roam around the area being their best feral selves. Mum and Dad just feed them and leave water out. They love their little extended family. I think Beau is perfect for yours! (PS. Congrats on the official move in. You're new home is awesome!)

Congrats on being chosen by this hansome boy, please look into building a more permanent outdoor cat shelter though as they can built with very little cost and minimal materials. A blanket in a tub will work for the warmer months but winter time this can actually be dangerous as cats can freeze to the blanket. A tote in a tote with insulation between them and a bed of straw would work well to get through the rest of this winter. If you would like plans for a fancy (but cost effective) cat house get in contact and I can draw some up for you.

He's a keeper and even better still is he's not fussed by dogs. Get him neutered once he's back up to weight and he won't spray or stray and will earn his keep as pest control. Let him have a wander around your house on his own accord (but still keeping a distant eye on him) as cats need to go around and check everywhere and everything before they settle down.
