Adopt don't shop!!!! Pebble and I had to run a few errands and I guess she didn't like my driving or something but here's what happened after we parked. I had concerns the man next to us was gunna call the cops for domestic abuse!!!!!

They are a lot like toddlers, they understand more words than they can say. That said my bird uses phrases like “come here” “what’s up” “hi big bird” and many others, all timed appropriately for the conversation! Pebble your a rock star!!! Kelly you are very clearly a “bird person” she seems to know how much you care about her and she seems pretty gentle. Has she ever bitten you? I mean break the skin kind of chomp? My macaw has been somewhat unpredictable early in her life after I adopted her at age 10 months. She had been with an older more aggressive macaw and she learned some bad habits. Now she’s much more predictable but she still sometimes does the full “warlord bird” with the feathers up and eyes flashing. I give her a wide berth until she settles down. I think with respect and love these birds can be so much company. They just need their basic needs met and they need enrichment to keep them happy in captivity. A friend who also has a macaw had lost his companion birds. We lost our conure who was my first bird and he lived w me 34 years. He was next to my macaw her whole life from the age of 10 months. The macaws were both experiencing grief and so I suggested we have play dates with them. Hers is a special Needs green wing macaw rescued after he’d been hurt badly by some people who then advertised to sell him. When my friend took him home she realized something was terribly wrong. He had his beak and sinuses crushed and his beak had fused together. He was terribly emaciated from his inability to open his beak to eat. These people had taken there renters bird BC they couldn’t pay their rent. They abused him and then they never even took him to the vet. So my friend had given him his forever home. He must be fed a soft diet as he can’t crack seeds. Anyway he’s the sweetest bird and he likes my Rio ❤️‍🩹🦜. Rio is 31 y/o she’s not been near another large macaw since we adopted her from a guy whose roommate also had a B&G macaw when she was 10 months old. Her owner had been married and his wife didn’t want the bird. They had split up and now he and a guy with another macaw were living as roommates. Her owner really wanted her to have a great forever home and knew we already had 2 smaller birds a severe macaw and my cherry head conure Flapper. Rio had a abscess on her face that her original owner hadn’t even noticed. In SD Dr Gallerstein was consulting avian vet for the zoos birds. He removed the abscess but it cultured klebsiella a nasty bacteria. I had to give Rio IM injections of antibiotics every 12 hours for a bit over a week. I’m an RN so the vet taught me how to give her the shots but she obviously didn’t like that much. Since then she’s been mostly healthy just missing her companion. It’s so sweet to see the two macaws getting to know one another. Since we both care for each other’s birds we both felt our birds were healthy. Our macaws go to the same avian vet. The vet agreed and we’ve now had 10 or 11 play dates. I have had to be “the referee” just BC Chewy can’t use his beak like Rio can so I want to make sure he doesn’t get hurt so I supervise their visits closely. They both look forward to their visits. ❤️‍🩹🦜🤷🏼‍♀️💞

Winter Fawn watch the vid "This Bird will Burn the World" kelly's original recording of this was not long after they had rescued Pebble, and Kelly couldn't even get her to stop and talk to him. He has said birds not raised by hand don't know how to do this. But Pebble has also had some unknowledgable or poorly equipped owners unable to handle a Cockatoo's needs. If you watch Full Throttle Cockatoo on Megabirdcrazy, you can see how Kelly is making way with Pebble interacting. I have watched vids where they talk about how sensitive these birds are to everything- so they will get really upset.
