The trees surrounding an old (is "antique" proper?) cemetery have grown for at least as long as the oldest grave has been there. To destroy them is such a maddening display of disrespect and total disregard for antiquity. That person (or persons) has no concept or concern for the importance of such places, the living history of the trees or the lives that rest at their feet. You guys do, and I thank you for your work.
@l.m.2404 Жыл бұрын
It's not about the trees. It is about the lack of respect due to the families that have their ancestors buried at that cemetery and actually planted those trees that the thieves stole. Compensation should be levied against the bums and if they can't pay, they need to clean up site, at the very least.

I am in Pensacola Florida and while doing some history research in old newspapers, I found a news clipping on a black cemetery that was being used in 1880s. It is now a city park with no evidence except some Boy Scouts did a project and found human bones under the meeting building! No one seemed to know about it. I contacted local authorities and the state university here that has an archeology dept. and sometime in the future they are going to do a ground penetrating survey. It has taken two years for me to get them interested in exploring it. Luckily the State of Florida has a new policy of finding and protecting old black cemeteries. Can't wait until they do a survey.

I am all for very old cemeteries. I agree with Robert & everyone here. I've tried to clean some cemetery markers' & grounds' myself. If I ever seen anything not right, I'd try to fix it. If I remember correctly, the reason for sunken graves' is because back then, they had to dig the graves by hand, only a few feet deep. Shallower graves' & the coffins' will rot and cave in. Therefore, the grave will settle and sink down. The term for that is, "divit", IF I remember correctly. I could be wrong. There's a lot of places like this here in P.A & N.J.

May I say how super saddening this is. I have a suggestion for y'all: buy some camouflage trail cameras that can be hidden in the brush bushes. Set them up with biggest sd cards possible. Then daily for awhile check them. Sooner or later you will get pictures of whomever thinks skinning out trees,is a way of making money. Slabbing makes me wonder if they are using the wood for furniture. And for those that think it's just cedar trees, my Native American beliefs are that Grandmother cedar is holy. Cedar is purfier in my beliefs, it cleanse the soul and frees your spirit to fly to higher plane. Native Americans would use the smoke to purify your home, hang boughs above the doorways to keep evil from entering your lodge. We would ask a blessing before ever cutting into her bark, taking her branches. The evil that you do will come back upon you for the damage that you have done Thank you for watching over this cemetery God's blessings to you.
