Yup. Time moves on and change happens. Just ashame progress is often stunted by older people who don't like change. Feel bad for those who struggle to adapt to the computer age and have noone to really teach them. I've had to help many of my older coworkers (both CNAs and Nurses) with computer work because our management did such a piss poor job making sure people understand how to access viral functions on the computer; i pretty much taught myself how to use alot of it and spent many nights on the computer patiently helping coworkers do stuff while doing my own work.

This explains why the reward is of millions of dollars to get people to turn on these guys. If they have made millions of $, you need to pay a lot of money for this. Now...the Iron Curtain existed during the Cold War. There's no Iron Curtain now but there are borders with Russia. As for that guy not being captured, if thigns continue like they have, he will be. Also, Russian borders don't mean he will live long and won't have a violent end if he starts attacking essential infrastructure. You can get into Russia without the FSB knowing if you have the skills. Seeing that Lockbit is offering their own reward for doxing law enforcement makes me think that they're out of touch with reality. They're just annoying the feds even more.

I don't think the FBI released how they got these guys. They usually don't say unless it's a super low sophistication method which usually is low tech. They may have used some real exploits to catch these guys and want to keep that on the DL.

I work for a large municipality and although we haven't been hit yet, we do carry ransom insurance policy. It's a serious risk and we have seen other municipalities not pay and lose critical data. For cities and school districts, this is not an outcome. We all watched it happen to one massive district in Los Angeles (it was never publicized) and now we all know to simply pay.
