They were going to release it as an actual mod and make it mandatory for people to buy the game If they wanna play the mod. Take-Two took it all down, so they decided to fire back at Take-Two by rebuilding the mod to be a standalone. Now it’s free.

The funniest thing about how rockstar is acting is that if they actually went after cheaters, the people who are dedicated to cheating would happily buy the game over and over again. I used mods in GTA online, for clothing and painting cars. The painting cars is so painfully obvious, they have crew color which can be set in the web page and then you have to restart game every time to see how it turned out. Like bruv, if modders can do it, why you cant implement the RGB color slider IN THE GAME. Clothing too, but I am not that passionate about that topic. But for community mods, R*/Take 2 (more like Take Down) is absolutely ruthless and for what... They didn't shut the mod down a few days ago. They got their KZbin channel taken down. Rockstar tried to DMCA them back in 2021 when the game was called "GTA Vice City 2" and Rev Team said they were stopping all work on it and wouldn't be releasing it. But they did release that version of it back then in a few non common locations. But that original mod was what NextGen was based on. All this info and VC2 can still be found on some old sites. But I love these guys, they went up against a giant and slapped their faces in half. Best part was these guys were going to make this a mod that needed to have GTA IV as a base for the mod to work. But when Take Two got their channel removed the gloves came off and they repacked the game without the need for GTA IV. A few streamers and KZbinrs were given ahead of the release the version that required GTA IV as a base. So Take two made this a situation where they could have made more from GTA IV sales to totally losing out.

The car physics in the game and the Rage engine itself is built by rockstar San Diego formerly known as angel studios. Which was aptly called age engine Or angel game engine. They added the R and now it’s called rockstar advanced game engine. So gta Iv and forward is actually an updated version of the midnight club games and smugglers run and red dead revolver. This engine actually dates back all the way to midtown madness. (Just the one made by angel studios). They heavily modified the driving physics on their own. It has nothing to do with euphoria. Euphoria is also in read dead redemption 1 and 2 and gta v but definitely toned down as compared to gta iv. Again to reiterate. Euphoria has nothing to do with the driving physics. The more you know

Just had another thought while watching this, on a point you made. Game Development companies SHOULD look to contracting the modding community for remastering/revitalizing old games because they're already familiar with the game, while their current FTE devs can focus on the more modern IP. It takes a lot of skill to break a game apart and figure out how it works so you can make the changes you want.

However since Take Two went scorched earth on the devs they decided to recompile the installer with a cracked version of GTA 4 baked in as a juicy fuck you to Take Two. Now Take Two wont make a dime off this mod and it is now a standalone game that is extremely easy to install enhancing accessibility. Unfathomably based gigachad developers.

And it basically comes down to how the project it is managed and the payment for the devs. I had a friend who worked with NetherRealm Studios for a couple of months as an internship since NRS got hacked and put up listing for jobs when they never needed people for work. And since he applied, they wanted to give him some time working there as compensation. And bc they are getting paid by the hour, they don’t care how long the game takes bc even if they get fired, they already got paid. That’s in contrast to those who work salary or by day, which are the ghost studios who actually do the crunch and are never recognized. That’s what Activision does now with CoD. They hire a bunch of smaller studios with little to no projects and make them do the whole game while the main studio just guides them and adds the finishing touches.

There aren't any "GTA clones" anymore, and no game has even come close to touching RDR2, so there's really no point in continuing gaming. I'm glad Rev. Team released the torrent of the mod, no matter what T2 and R* try to do, it's forever out in the wild now so they can just sit and spin 😂 (also it's super fun so far, never really was able to get into the original version of the game like I was able to with 3 and SA but I love GTA IV and its physics so this'll be a great way to experience the world of Vice City!)

Sonic Project 06 is another attempt at trying to remake an entire game from the ground up. Jet Set Radio Future Multiplayer, is another attempt. I am pretty sure there was a famous Metroid fangame that got taken down because they were releasing an updated version of that same game fans made. That one I an a little vague on because I am not that big of a Metroid fan and heard it got taken down in tandem with Pokémon Uranium. Mobile ports of Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, and CD, only SEGA hired Christian Whitehead and I don't believe he was SOLELY responsible, he had a team. I know I am missing a few off the top of my head, but this is probably the most complete example of fans taking a game and rebuilding it. Edit: Pokémon Revolution, is like Pokémmo, they just added Johto if I remember correctly.

@ Yes, they are copyrighted, so you couldn't sell it or distribute it under a different name, but so long as you own a copy of every version of the game they sell, it isn't piracy. It is no different to playing a nintendo game on PC is only piracy if you don't own an official version of that game. Moding the game doesn't make it piracy either.
