Hi Andy. Coal mining was very prevalent in times past, in a lot of villages. It's nice to remember past industry. Beautiful war memorial. Love hearing about history of villages. Also connecting with the military. Ah the Sally Army.. Nice It has some amenities. Nice sports facilities . Like the history board. Another informative video. Thanks

You say Somercotes is originally Summer Cottages sorry... the meaning is Summer coates, this is were the kept the village animals during the summer time thus shortened to Somercotes, you are correct though the original village of Somercotes is at Lower Somercotes.

Its the same thing. A "coat" or "cot" was a cottage. Hence it means Summer Cottages. I wasn't saying it was called "Summer Cottages" originally.
