Join me on an exhilarating journey to the breathtaking landscapes of RSPB Ham Wall, nestled in the heart of the enchanting Somerset Levels. In this captivating KZbin video, I immerse myself in the rich biodiversity and natural wonders of this stunning nature reserve, embarking on what turned out to be one of the most unforgettable photography experiences of my life.
As I step into this sanctuary for wildlife enthusiasts, the serene ambiance instantly envelops me, setting the stage for an extraordinary adventure. With my camera in hand and a heart brimming with anticipation, I traverse the winding trails that lead me deeper into the heart of Ham Wall.
With each step, I am greeted by a symphony of birdsong and the rustling of reeds, a testament to the vibrant ecosystem that thrives within these wetlands. From elusive waterfowl to majestic raptors, every corner of Ham Wall presents a new photographic opportunity, each more mesmerising than the last.
Capturing the essence of this pristine wilderness becomes my mission as I lose myself in the beauty of the surroundings. Whether it's the graceful flight of a Bittern or the playful antics of wildfowl frolicking in the water, every moment is a masterpiece waiting to be immortalised through my lens.
As the day unfolds, I find myself utterly entranced by the kaleidoscope of colors and textures that paint the landscape. The golden hues of the setting sun cast a magical glow over the marshes, adding an ethereal quality to my photographs and etching this experience into my memory forever.
But perhaps the true magic of RSPB Ham Wall lies not just in its picturesque vistas, but in the sense of connection it fosters with the natural world. In a fast-paced world where moments of tranquility are rare, this sanctuary offers a sanctuary for both wildlife and weary souls alike.
So come along on this visual feast as I share the highlights of my unforgettable day at RSPB Ham Wall. From the thrill of the chase to the quiet moments of reflection, this video is a celebration of the beauty that surrounds us and a reminder of the importance of preserving it for generations to come.

Another superb video Dan. That first Bittern shot is top drawer. I remember the first time I heard a Bittern at Leighton Moss, sounded like someone circling the top of a wine glass, although I had no clue until I saw some info there and it mentioned the Bittern call. Appreciate your time and tips.

Awesome video Dan. A place also local to me so I enjoyed this one ☺️. So much so you inspired me to spend the morning there yesterday with my family. Probably the best day I've had there in fact. First time I've seen the glossy Ibis and loads of marsh harriers about flying quite close! Alas no bittern this time. Your picture was incredible. I photographed one there last year but the heat haze ruined the shot🤦🏼‍♂️

Wow a great video again Dan, some great photos of some of our countries finest birds! I totally agree about knowing your camera, I’ve stressed this to many people, almost every button and dial on my camera is customised to do a certain job and if it means practicing on the local pigeons or Sparrows then that’s what I do to make sure the muscle memory doesn’t let me down on those special never to be missed shots 👍📷🦅 cheers Terry

Morning dan it’s andy after your help and advice we settled in Nikon d5300 with a 500 shutter count and a sigma 170 500 app manual lens I was wondering if you would share your manual setting for puffins at bempton clifs iso frame rate shutter etc etc Kind regards Andy
@danwillis_photography
@danwillis_photography 27 күн бұрын
Evening Andy. I’m more than happy to give you some settings but they will be based settings and I suggest that you experiment around the base settings to give you the style of shot you are looking for. I shoot in manual with auto ISO, this allows me to concentrate on two sides of the exposure triangle and the camera takes care of the third. For perched shots of the puffin I would have a shutter speed of around 1/800 of a second, this can go slower if the lights not good and faster if it’s bright sunshine. I would have the aperture set to its widest aperture (on my lens that would be f2.8). For flight shots the shutter speed needs to be above 1/2000 of a second and I would have again wide aperture. The final piece of the puzzle is exposure compensation which I think is essential for photographing black and white animals. If the whites of the puffin are being blown due to bright sunlight then under expose the image and recover the blacks in post processing. Hope that helps mate 👍🏻
