So when it released, Valve was 100% just showing how well their engine/hardware ran with loads of stuff spawning in a single world. The thing is the game was AMAZING for couch and even online co-op, and it made them so much money they went ahead and made a second - which somehow improved on an already top tier game. Fans have wanted a third game for ages but Valve has more or less said it isnt happening; Back For Blood was supposed to be another studio's spiritual successor to L4D but it never really came close to that same magic, so it just died leaving a bad taste in people's mouth.
