Well said. Born to Run was so incredible, so off-the-charts great, one of the half-dozen greatest rock albums ever, how could the follow-up be even close, let alone better. In hindsight, the answer is easy. He's Bruce Springsteen and everyone else is not.

I've always wished he'd open a show with this. Stage is completely dark as Roy's piano starts. Then one light shines from behind Bruce, silhouetting him as he starts wailing. And then all of the lights burst on when the full band kicks in. That would kick every single ass in the venue.

Yes, its a full spectrum song...starting off with a quiet music-box melody and building up to a thundering avalanche of desperation. But I think it should end the show...because it embodies everything Bruce is. His haunted soul is on full display here....howling at the moon.

The piano and drums introduction, those lyrics ("looking for a moment when the world seems right"), the intense wailing reflecting the pain of the character in this song, the look on Bruce's face as the video fades out. For me, it's the greatest performance of one of his most underrated songs.

I agree.... One of his most emotionally intensely moving songs ever, or anyone's songs!! I couldn't believe it when I read Rolling Stone magazines top 100 Bruce songs and they didn't include this! They included Candy's Room but not this, and at least 40 other of his good songs that weren't as amazing as this cry from the Soul of man... Long live Bruce the Boss of Real Feeling SOULFULLNESS...

Max´ sticks are made of concrete in this song! I love this performance. The intimacy in the verse where Springsteen almost recites the lyrics accompanied only by the ominous drum beat and then delivers a primordial scream that explodes like volcanic power.

Its crazy how under rated Weinberg is..the guys tight as hell..as a metal drummer I can tell you that what he did here is way more inspriring than the monotonous sprinters in metal bands..the bass drum part where the song goes quiet and the fills at the end are pure magic and soul, never mind the intro snare roll

I have carried this song with me. I was in combat as a kid. Came out of it somewhat broken while not knowing it. I chased something in the night for 30 years. The melodic piano chords.... the heavy drums.... the voice. I have gotten better. Not normal but better.... and it may he time to let this song go. It has been a good friend. It has been with me in the darkest periods. I no longer chase something in the night. I know it is there, I know it can't hurt me. Thanks Bruce.

Growing up in Philly, we usually went to the So. Jersey shore destinations... My first time ever in Asbury Park, I was on my bike waiting for the light to change... My foot was banging and I was singing, “Riding Down Kingsley...” Never knowing that I was actually riding down Kingsley... What great memory for me!!! But the real reason I’m commenting is to say, if you work for a living, if you’re hands and clothes get dirty, Darkness On The Edge Of Town, is the greatest album ever written!!!!

The band was mourning the death of Daniel Federici (keyboardist) (January 23, 1950 - April 17, 2008) Everyone dressed in black, This was in honor of him. This was his fav album. Danny was best known as the organ, and accordion player and a founding member. Proceeds from this screening are donated to the Danny Fund/Melanoma Research Alliance - a non-profit foundation devoted to advancing melanoma research and awareness set up after the 2008 passing of Danny Federici, longtime Springsteen friend and E-Street Band member.

If everyone on earth would take a moment of silence, join hands & sing in unison from 3:39-4:10 with the same degree of passion, I think we could shake a whole lotta' bad shit out of here, look into each others souls & see in essence we all want the same things... form a compassionate fellowship of the shared heart & rise up in unity & solidarity for peace, harmony & the power of love to reign forevermore. Guard your dreams & visions.

Well I'm riding down Kingsley Figuring I'll get a drink Well I turn the radio up loud So I don't have to think Then I take her to the floor Looking for a moment when the world Seems right And I tear into the guts Mmh, of something in the night Well you're born with nothing And better off that way Soon as you've got something they send Someone to try and take it away Well you can ride this road 'til dawn Without another human being in sight Yeah, just kids wasted on Oh, something in the night Oh, nothing is forgotten or forgiven When it's your last time around, huh Well I got stuff running 'round my head That I just can't live down When we found the things we loved They were crushed and dying in the dirt We tried to pick up the pieces And get away without getting hurt But they caught us at the state line And burned our cars in one last fight And left us running burned and blind Hmm, chasing something in the night

I could relate to this in 1980 as a 14 who had been a victim the two years prior of sexual molestation at the hands of an older, "friend of the family" and from 4-9 as a victim of child abuse. (Lot of shit happened to me). Now at 51 and life has had soooooo many crazy ups and downs for me throughout, almost non-fucking stop, without ever a break for too very long. ... I hear that line and I wanna scream into the great beyond.... Into the California night sky....into something in the night ......

The depth of soul placed in in this song, and most every song of his, pushes the meaning(s) so far into reality I can't help but to feel his words in MY reality. Almost every song of his parallels moments and times in my life and thus his music has been like a friend, one having gone through similar trials and tribulations, beautiful and energetic triumphs. For these reasons and many others, like his (their) ability to maintain integrity in a realm of which such is near to impossible, Bruce Springsteen & the E. Street Band are hands-down my favorite artists! Thank you Bruce Springsteen & The E. Street Band!

I started listening to Springsteen @ the age of 10 in 1973 and I’ve only gotten to see him once live in the nose bleed section and after 4 hours of nonstop performing just being there was incredible. Someday I hope to get closer to the stage. Something always seemed to happen while making plans to go.. someday though........!
