You really ought to have some jack stands under that car. When that young man sat down with his legs under that rotor, there was significant risk for that Harbor Freight floor jack to fail and crush his legs. Plus, it is very easy to knock a vehicle off a floor jack like that. I had to learn safety the hard way.

Remember always use jack stands. Saved a guy's life one time when I kicked a jack stand under a car. A few seconds later guy was under car and fell off jack. If you don't have jack stand put the tire under the car, so when it falls it falls on the rim.

We need more of Ben's family. There interaction is great. While safety isn't a priority for you guys at least let it be for your kids. Teach them to use jack stands and PPE along with other safety items as they go, getting yourself hurt is completely different than hurting one of your kids that doesn't know better. Just like doing the brakes, both are teachable moments.

I don't know if it's the magic of editing (I don't think so) but I wonder if you guys know how much it means when someone teaches calmly and quietly vs teasing, making fun of or yelling at someone. There is a huge gap between light hearted joking around and ridicule. You guys get it. I learned to enjoy working on vehicles many years after my "teacher" was gone. Because it wasn't pleasant then. It was something to be dreaded. The lessons you guys are teaching your kids (and some of us) go way beyond the shop or mechanics. Love the channel.

I remember one of my Suburbans had the wheels put on with an impact wrench, and not a torque wrench. To get it off I had to take it to a shop after bending a 4-way lug wrench, a breaker bar and splitting a socket. I limped it into a shop and told the mechanic about it, and that my Harbor Freight impact tool couldn't budge it. He said "Boys do you think I should get out my Ingersoll Rand?" And that tool spun off those nuts without even a grunt. Then he said "It's about time you boys bought some REAL tools." Still, there was no way I could have changed the tire on the side of the road the way it was. I think the proper torque is the way to go on wheel nuts.
@aaronvienot
@aaronvienot Жыл бұрын
"Buy some real tools" is the talk of someone who likely uses his "real tools" to abuse bolts in the first place. Start planning for the eventual replacement of those wheel studs, good chance several are stretched. Did it to myself on one of my first vehicles (not with an impact, but a 22" breaker bar can also do a lot of damage if used incorrectly), changed most of the studs one by one within the next year and learned not to do it again. Later, an ASE-certified mechanic did it to me on the fronts of another vehicle after a clutch change, and I ended up replacing most of those wheel studs one by one within the next year, also.

Another excellent video with all kinds of asides and vignettes - kids on camera, on brakes and snatches of their dialogues; other family interactions and history (no-brake driving style, that always-spare oil quart); the mechanical (parts delivery failure, the new oil filter tool acquisition, regard for the next person's job on the car). So many threads in just one short video. A joy to watch! Lovely work, Michelle.

The clips for the brakes are called anti raddle clips, you should remove the master cylinder cap before you open the calipers and if it is full the fluid will over flow and leak every were. If full use a turkey baster to remove some of the brake fluid. If the lid is left on and happens to be full pushing the calipers in will sometimes force the lid off.

@ 6:26, Where is Ben’s son sitting? And… Am I missing something? No jack-stands? I suppose you may be using the new Dayton transparent jackstands and they aren’t easily seen LOL Don’t get me wrong, Ive watched your videos for a long while and will continue because they are very entertaining. And even though you’ve acknowledged improvement in some areas considering safety, there’s still some issues and this situation my friends is definitely a problem. Teaching youngsters a lucrative trade is fantastic and I applaud you folks; teaching them to do it safely allows them to continue without disabilities!! Again, very much enjoy your videos. And Ben is becoming quite the fantastic showman isn’t he? 👍🏻

I do love this show. Should throw a couple jackstands under there in case of jack failure.
