Chris, what you are demonstrating here is one of the things I most appreciate about "The Barry Way" -- you can take something which is a very simple concept and then play with it in ways that introduce practically unlimited and beautiful variations. The thing that has been most meaningful to me has been learning to listen and sing lines from there. Why? You don't just move your fingers mechanically and pray something good comes out, you give life to melodies which flow from "Barry Thinking." At least, that's been my journey! Thank you, sir

Chris with all the demands on your time I’m glad that you are able to continue making your KZbin videos. One thing that makes you a great teacher is your humility. It’s nice to hear somebody of your ability giving props to their students and learning from their ideas.

Chris, Barry's teachings, though straightforward they might be, seem ever-expanding, endless. The moment you think your putting something down on your belt, the moment something new or a combination or a different approach pops up. What a beautiful installment.

@@thingsivelearnedfrombarryh2616 Thank you, Chris. You've made all of this readily accessible for anyone willful enough to take on this approach and philosophy. So grateful to you. Btw, where can I find out more about the open studio lessons?

Thanks for mentioning me, Chris! I think if anything this shows that sharing Barry’s ways of thinking is one of the greatest ways to learn more about something you thought you knew. (And how great the environment in the Open Studio classes)

I really like this video. Lots of nice ideas. I made a video about how to make a transcription your own. And I talk about some similar ideas to the idea Jeffrey came up with. Essentially breaking up a phrase into its constituent parts and getting creative with those parts. Reordering them and so on. Looking forward to seeing more!

I love using pivots to give lines more dimension. I was wondering about pivots from other notes of the chord? These pivots work great when playing off the colors of the chord, like playing a Bbmaj7 over a C7 with the C7 half step rules. But I wonder, instead of doing C and down the octave to E G G--could you do E and then down the octave to G B C? Or G and down the octave to B C E? I think those types of pivots are a little harder to implement, but could still serve a purpose? Glad the TILFBH videos are back!

Hi Chris! Thanks for the video! I play the electric bass and the pivoting concept really helps me there. Beside the beauty of it, it helps also with efficiency and comfortability of movement on the instrument, so it's a win win. I personally find that some chords are not so comfortable to pivot in certain positions (starting on root and going down 6th), so I've found that I can pivot not only from the first note of the chord. For example: If I want to pivot on F major 7, and my middle finger is on F (D string), it is much more comfortable for me to do F up to A and than down to C (and up to E). The amount of ideas we can get from Barry's method is endless!! Thank you for sharing it!

This sounds so great, an instant 'bebop' inflection and love how you expanded the idea. 'The Pivot' is also found in The Honeysuckle Rose lick I guess.

Hey Chris I had a thought about thinking 5 over 2 5 1. If you were for example to think of a phrase starting on the 4th of the 5 chord, when playing it over the 2 chord your hearing it as a minor 7. So your thinking different than what your hearing? I guess right now I can’t hear just 5 to 1 if the 2 chord is being played. I’m hearing it as seperate things. I guess when you practice over just 5 to 1 long enough the 2 chord just melds with the 5

Chris, perhaps this lesson should be called "The One", because it summarizes a huge amount of Barry's technique in one lesson, and anyone who studies this lesson will improve their playing within 10 minutes
