I think the Habs are waiting for the entry of Demidov and the eventual falloff of Tampa Bay before they can seriously and consistently get into the Playoffs. All I hear from people is that the habs are really close to a playoff spot. They will be in the mix until the very end. But, they will fall short. Literally that's by far the most commun prediction I hear about them. So, I'm gonna make my prediction that they WILL make the playoffs. Call me crazy or biased I don't care. If most people says they will be close to make it, close by what 4, 6, 8 points? Is it really that unrealistic to think they could get the few extra points that people don't think they can have to get them into the playoffs? I just have a super good feeling about this group of players and management. They are building something special and I think the results could come sooner than expected.

Thee big question mark will be ' Is this team going to stay RELATIVELY healthy?' followed by the defense; their ability or perhaps lack of it to keep the puck out puck out of their own net. For the Habs to have a fighting chance of stealing a wildcard spot , they absolutely must give up 40 to 50 fewer goals this season. Not necessarily going to get any easier given the division they are in.

I think we have much more pure, raw talent this year than when we went to the finals. The major differences being a generational goaltender and some of the best example in leadership in Price, Weber, Gallagher...etc. If the young ones rise to their potential and Monty takes a step up this year... we'll be in the race, im sure of it.

The Eastern Wild Card race looks to be wide open next season. There are like 8-10 teams competing for those two wild card spots and honestly I think the Habs are up there among the best 2-3 of those teams. The problem is just that competing against the field that still only gives like a 30% chance of them making the playoffs. But IF the Habs can avoid suffering any key injuries, that alone should already bump them upwards of 50% chance to qualify in my books.

Total BS. I strongly disagree. Hughes and Gorton have done a really excellent job so far and the future in Montreal is very bright. This team should be a powerhouse in the future. I also know MB overstayed his welcome and it was time for a change. However Marc Bergevin laid the foundation for this team no matter how much people like you refuse to give him credit. It was Bergevin who traded for Pacioretty for Suzuki, Tatar and 2nd Rd pick . It was Bergevin who trade Dale Weise and Tomas Fleishman to Chicago for Phil Danault and 2nd Rd pick that became Alexander Romanov. Both Weise and Fleishman had short playoff run and left Chicago right after. It was Bergevin who picked up Paul Byron on waivers for nothing. It was Bergevin who traded PK Subban for Shea Weber. I love PK but he only played 3 seasons in Nashville so Habs won that trade hands down. It was Bergevin who drafted Cole Caufield. It was Bergevin who traded for a 2nd and 4th rd pick to Edmonton for Jeff Petry who played 8 years as 1st pair Dman in Montreal. It was Bergevin who signed Tyler Toffoli to a team friendly contract. Bergevin also signed Nick Suzuki to a very good long term contract. Yes I know MB made several mistakes as well but he also made several excellent trades and draft picks. Anyone who denies this can't accept the truth.. If you want to see a real clown, just look in the mirror clown

@@albertvanular433 It was Bergevin who failed to get a 1C in the decade he was GM. It was Bergevin who signed a chronically injured 30 year old to eight more years at absolutely stoopid money. It was Bergevin who did this AFTER this player already missed the majority of a season. It was Bergevin who decided to pay our goalie the most money in a league where scorers get paid. It was Bergevin who assembled a team so weak at scoring that we started to see a steady diet of back up goalies. It was Bergevin who "built" a team so anemic we got shutout a dozen times one season. It was Bergevin who guided us to a powerplay so tepid we had better scoring stats 5 vs 5 and fans would routinely joke we should decline the penalty, wishing we could apply football rules. It was Bergevin who chased our puck moving D-men away (Markov and Subban), so we'd be routinely hemmed in our own end for extended periods, and our forwards spent more time backchecking vs attacking. It was Bergevin who handed out moronic contracts to Alexander Semin, Karl Alzner, Joel Armia, Brendan Gallagher, Carey Price, and then traded for Shea Weber's bad deal. It was Bergevin who whined in a presser that no one would trade him a 1C, then watched the Blues trade for two centers and take the Cup that year. It was Bergevin who managed to hang around a decade despite churning through three coaches and squandering his inheritance of peak Plekanec, Markov, Subban, Pacioretty, and a promising supporting cast that included a young Gallagher and Eller. Go ahead and defend the indefensible if you like, but you're the one who fails to see the truth. LOL, and now, not even an hour after I posted this reply, you've deleted your post. The Habs continue to improve but there is a long way to go. Last year the Canucks showed what can be achieved in one season. Montreal opens the season in a similar position. It will be hard to make up the 15 points they missed the playoffs by for starters: they will also need to pass 7 other teams who are improving. Montreal will not be an easy game for any opponent, but young teams make mistakes. A good coach will help them learn from that and they will improve as a team. St. Louis has an important year of learning behind him now and hopefully will get the most out of the tools he has to work with.

Yeah no you're right, I don't think anyone expect the team to make the playoffs (also, it's important to actually DO something when you get into the playoffs, the first round is nothing compared to the journey ahead... I mean anyone reading this will know what kind of team I'm thinking of here). What we want is individual and team improvement; there are growing pains that will still need to be lived. The fact that our young core leadership were part of the team that went all the way to the cup final (Suzuki and Cole as a complete rookie) is important too. Suzuki is already a first line center - as long as he is at or near the PPG mark as a 2 way center, and the fact that he is I think 3rd in the entire NHL for his current ironman streak (in a place where we got 75% of our cap in injured players at some point, playing day in day out against the best with AHL linemates in 2023 and still improved, like he did again last year, we're fine. How many 100 points season Bergeron got even with the best and experienced linemates in his HoF career btw? I am not saying that Suzuki is to his level (although he might get there), but is there anyone, anywhere, saying that Bergeron wasn't a first line center and superstar? He didn't have to have 100 point seasons to shutdown Matthews year after year in the playoffs. Offense is a team effort, especially in the playoffs. We're not there already, we need 2 more seasons to have our complete roaster (which makes the Laine trade even more genius; because it's exactly when his current contract ends. We have a cap structure here in MTL, and no doubt it has been talked about with Laine. Whether he regains his superstar status or something in between (which would still be absolutely awesome either way), and can stay healthy, a long term deal will be offered to him like the others (same reason WiFi and Barron got a 2 year deal, to see what kind of player they will be at the end of their contract). I think it's clear that they want to see the team to start being a yearly playoff fixture starting in two years, which would officially mark the end of the first ever full rebuild this century + old team ever made. But like any player and cohesive teams, they will still compete before then, and are expected to do so. They will come short even if they overperform imho, because like you mentioned, it's the most competitive regular season division, and conf too when it comes to a WC spot. Too bad one division playoff spot is ALWAYS wasted on a team that has proven in more ways to count how inept they are at playoff hockey... But nothing last forever; at some point said team will have to start over and rebuild before it's too late. No idea HOW their most valuable assets ALL have full NTC lol... It's a nightmare scenario to lose superstars for nothing, and even if you convince a guy like Marner to accept to be traded, teams know that his NTC makes the team's position weaker, and thus a lesser return will be expected either way.

Bottom 5 back to back years and a complete fail since making the finals. The simple of it is that MTL has not won a cup in the Salary cap era for a reason >>>poor management poor contracts well and poor drafting doesn't help either. People as fanbois try their hardest to justify pretty much anything but the results happen on the ice and so far fail x2. What makes it really sad is that St.Louis showed us signs he was in try hard mode he was TRYING to produce a winning team to prove something to the fan and media but failed badly. After 36 games Slaf not yet full time first line or even doing much and the team was 1 game below .500 so the last half they got worse. They were 3 games ahead of Columbus and everyone considered CLB to have a failed year yet the yremained the same 3 games behind the Habs until the end.Eventually with enough first round picks and adding better talent they will make the manager and coach look good but in spite of so far it looks liek we are going nowhere. IMO a VERY good chance the Habs are bottom 5 again this year.

Of course they're going to fall short of their aspirations. They're not only not good enough, but they're brittle as hell.

If you want to grow your channel, not making basic mistakes like saying Kovacevic is now in LA would probably go a long way. He's a Devil btw.

Maybe the worst defense in the nhl and they are talking about playoffs. Embarassing

Not even close to worst defense. Hutson, Guhle, Savard, and Matheson are capable defenders.

-Habs ruthlessly mock Laine when he was a jet. -Habs when they trade for him “Best goal scorer! Elite talent! All the way to the playoffs!”

Habs can finish top 3. Tampa lost Stamkos and aren’t elite anymore. Same with Boston. Leafs are due to disappoint. Maybe miss the playoffs. Matthews will get no more than 50 ish goals.

In general, yes they do. You're not going to get a lot of people arguing with you on that.

Lol, you must be young. Just making the playoffs is not enough, and they barely have the team for that. Don't get too excited. It's not good for your heart.we need another 30 goals from one or two players. It's practically impossible to find a 30 goals scorers, so we need to trade 2 players who score around 10 each for 2 who score around 20 each and it would give 20. Let's see if the genius can make this happen.

if playoffs is not enough then that makes the leafs trash as well
