Something special on the Saxon land, north Lancashire. A heavily clipped silver Roman siliqua of the House of Theodosius, dating to the period c.AD 378-388 (Reece period 20). I believe it was used like a sceattas, sceat, by the early medieval people who were on this spot.
The site and the finds are currently being investigated by the local museum.

V interesting DD I'm intrigued by the period concerned. I believe the protopennies of the C7th are somehow copied from those Roman coins 250 yrs earlier, the diademed headband is a case in point. Happy hunting, Dave

Hi Nigel , well i am no expert but it sounds about right to me mate another cracking bit of silver for the collection, and the glass cameo ? looks very interesting although the fish hook looks a bit big what were they catching great whites 😂 , anyway all good stuff pal ATB Rob .
