I remember reading about this. It's called highway hypnosis. I think it said it happens when we drive the same route so often it becomes muscle memory and doesn't require all of our attention anymore, so our brain wanders off.

(Before reading, please know that what I say is true and happened when I was 8) When I was younger I would have nightmares. Some were normal, some made me wake up in bed sweating, but I had one nightmare where I was awake. It was 2012, my aunt and my mom were watching TV in the living room (heroes). It was their favorite show at the time, mine too. Nothing out of the ordinary happened that day leading up to the night, it was just a regular Sunday after church. I sat down beside both of them and started watching, not knowing what was about to happen next that makes me question almost everything I know about life and still makes me fairly paranoid today. I want to say I dreamed this up, but I know deep down I didn't. While I was watching with them, scenes started replaying over and over again on the TV as they watched. I kept telling them it was replaying the same thing over and over again but their only responses were "they haven't seen this part yet". It scared the ever living hell out of me. It would then play new scenes and then cut back to previous scenes and they would have no recollection of ever seeing it. Needless to say I went to bed 30 minutes in. After that, I have never experienced any strange events besides that.

This was a really good story! I really liked it. Firstly, it was long story-which I like-that stayed interesting and compelling the whole way through. And the end actually creeped me out! The creature was definitely freaky and I was genuinely on edge listening to the second half of the story. Hopefully you'll narrate more stories from this author Creeps🙃👻
