Wonderful job, Angelo! Some of the "simplest-sounding" Metheny pieces are actually quite difficult, especially considering the nuances of bending, glissandos, slight changes in emphasis. You captured it very well.

BassMan, you have fully grasped the essence of this song and also the difficulty that distinguishes it but in reality you have grasped very well, in my opinion one of the main characteristics of Pat Metheny's playing. The greatness of this artist lies not only in his compositions but also in his playing full of infinite details that transforms the melody into ingenious music. I've often been intrigued by what makes a musician a "master" other than the obvious, and what separates masters from very good musicians; Pat is one example of the distinction. Angelo, you nailed it. As a twenty-something wannabe guitar player, I could not have conceived at how masterfully the guitar can express, let alone play it. Pat and Lyle's music is life changing. You've got the same sound, exactly! Very impressive.(i always thought the Pat shouldn't leave the ES175 in 1995! event if he needed to switch his old one, and if a 1957 model cost 22 000$. He can afford for it). Anyway, i steel love his music, even on Ibanez and even with a P90 on! But i miss the toothbrush!😆

Hi Thierry, thanks for your comments. However, I believe that Pat's sound is truly unique (as unique as his compositions), and as close as you can get there are countless features and nuances that make it unique and everything else imitation. 😉

Hi Jim, I don't remember where I downloaded the midi but i think you can find the same midi serching with the key: "something to remind you pat metheny midi". However, I remember working a lot on it to be able to make it like the backing track of the cover. Thank you so much!

I have tried to get closer to the original but there are so many small details that I have not been able to reproduce that make Pat's guitar unmatched in terms of expressive richness. In itself, it would not even make sense to reproduce a piece so meticulously as the expressive content that any artist can put is missing. I think it was a good exercise done on a song that I really love. Thank you for watching and listening.

Thanks for your comment and appreciation! Being Pat is impossible and certainly also wrong to try to imitate him. For me, this was an exercise in transcribing a song that I really love. I tried to do my best in trying to reproduce those sounds and sensations.

It would be nice to hear your own improvising over this track. You are clearly very talented and can create your own solos. Pat Metheny once said when he was a young player back in Kansas City he was encouraged by his band mates to not try to imitate others but rather find his own voice.

Thank you very much for your completeness. Yes, I fully agree: the most difficult path but also the most important and necessary is the search for one's own style which then coincides with the search for one's self. Imitating always makes little sense and I think this is particularly evident when you try to imitate your own improvisations too which will never be as effective as when you thought about and executed that phrase in that moment which becomes unique and cannot be recreated. Let alone someone else's interpretation and if that someone is Pat, even worse! 😄This cover was meant to be an exercise and I think it came out just like that, maybe with a bit of my soul that I tried to put anyway. Thanks again. 🙏
