I'm not sure if it would work well, but a video on general disassembly of cordless impacts, how to clean, regrease, what kind of grease to use, things to watch for, etc, would be extremely helpful. This is one of the few channels I would fully trust on the subject.

No reason to disassemble, just "accidentally" drop your impact into your oil collection bin! All kidding aside I assumed my 10 year old Dewalt hammer drill needed a new trigger switch OR a new motor, but for one last go I sprayed CRC electric contact cleaner into the trigger switch mechanism (without disassembling anything nor removing any screws) and that solved the problem entirely. I was having issues not achieving 100% throttle rather than having an issue with the switch not working at all. Occasionally the drill would "ramp up" to full throttle even when squeezing fully but it was very intermittent and most times it seemed to be stuck with a maximum throttle less than full throttle.

@@Guillotines_For_Globalists the contacts in the trigger get dirty or worn, or both. I used some brake cleaner and some compressed air on my Milwaukee mid torque and it solved the trigger issue i was having. Solid state caps last longer. Generally about 10 years or longer depending on the model of the cap. I see this as an bonus as it seems the electronics is sealed up on a board there, which isn't good for repair-ability, it will at least allow the tool to last longer before the part gives out.

The stamps on the hammer are likely position numbers for a line producing multiples at once. You see similar position numbers on injection molded parts that are molded several at a time in case one mold position is damaged, clogged, or needs to be machined. You also see location numbers for labels printed on a giant sheet… like sealing labels for single serving tubs of barbecue sauce.

What’s happening here from a tool build perspective is the Craftsman has a few slightly lower grade/lower MTBF parts but is 95% identical. That way Stanley/B&D can spend R&D making one tool and make minute changes for different brands for much less than the cost difference they sell each brand’s tool for. Meanwhile Craftsman buyers can say they get the same tool for less, and Stanley/B&D can make money+ on DeWalt buyers. I think the main difference between the two brand’s few unique parts is going to be the DeWalt will last longer and have more consistent power delivery/battery life, whereas the Craftsman will be more apt to shine bright up front and fade over time.

As some comments mentioned. The number of windings determines the strength of the magnetic field. The more windings, the stronger the field. The number of poles determines the speed of the motor. The number of windings on the poles, the voltage, and the number of phases, determines the strength (HP & torque) of the motor. If you have a specific area where the windings go dimensionally , wire size, how many wire turns all matter to the output .

That's because NH Bragg manufactures both of them. You would find that Porter Cable Brand is ALSO the same exact thing as these two in the video. When it comes to a majority of their hand tools. Its like buying a Chevy or a Buick over the Cadi but same internals.

Went to get a Craftsman miter saw and a 4 amp hour extra battery and Lowe's threw in a half inch impact which was normally $150 for the tool only for free. I don't know if it's the same one but I'll take a free half inch impact lol

Just a note on the LED comparison comment. Surface mount components end up being significantly less expensive as the parts can be placed by pick-and-place robots instead of manually.

Though-hole components get also pick-and-placed, well, at least if the whole board is designed that way. But yes, it's more expensive, as the soldering also needs to be an additional process, so it ends up costing more. Particularly if you mix SMT and through-hole. And if it's only a few components that are through-hole, then it's probably done manually after all SMDs have been reflowed.

Specs are specs that is the best thing you said. If it’s something dangerous specs wise it should be disclosed and a spec that is extra safe should be included too for protection measures and that would be explained hopefully

Cool, as one has learned to expect from your channel, but one minor correction... ft.lbs is a unit of WORK DONE, the correct term FOR TORQUE is lbs.ft - they are DIFFERENT things. The mix'n'match options may be useful for custom builds, or when picking up "broken" tools and making good.

Need to try 5 ah 6 ah and 9ah. Batteries the 9 ah makes saw and miter run so much better and can tell a huge difference in power on miter with 6ah and 9 ah but the 5 ah sounds like my blower works best with it but 5 ah is hard to get other than the mower that comes with two

This is completely irrelevant to this video but… I spend a quite a bit of time thinking about these impact guns and their performance. Have you guys considered thread pitch and if it has anything to do with performance. A tighter thread in theory would take less effort on the gun to achieve the same outcome. Can you guys do a video on thread pitches and the effect of which. I would definitely watch it over and over. And would be able to sleep at night. Also as I sit here and think more about it. Does IPM play a role. Does the frequency and harmonics of the vibrations amplify the output of the tool. And what would be the optimal IPM be for mild steel to hardened bolds be.

Well, I just ordered a broken DeWALT DCF899 and a used Craftsman CMCF940. How “used” can the Craftsman tool be when the tool is only a few months old? Anyway, the DeWALT looks like it was chiseled out of concrete and really needs a new housing! I see them cheap but I’m really not saving anything unless I can get them both working. If I can’t get them both working I’ll see if I can wire DeWALT battery terminals and transfer the Craftsman guts into a new DeWALT DCF899 housing (surprisingly affordable). This could be fun. ;)
