Yea this one definitely works on palm fronds. Works best in th chipper chute, but as long as the stalk isn't thick, it can go in the shredding chute as well. Just don't install the gate on the exit while assembling, if it has one.

I am in the market for a good chipper mulcher but I need one that takes the whole palm frond not after the base has been cut off . As far as I can see the Michigan Ravenger 18 hp is a contender to mulch full palm fronds . This one here is quite useful in the average garden .

The video doesn't show the BRAND NAME of this machine! I live near Phoenix, and all the news here is that it's nearly impossible to shred or chop palm fronds. We send 34,000 TONS of palm fronds to a special dump site every Year. What is someone not telling everyone else? -- I made a horrific ERROR because I have 11 acres I've been trying to turn into a "Permaculture" Oasis, and I wanted stuff to compost. I'm in the desert, 20 miles south of Phoenix and I'd advertised that I'll take any landscaping trash. I quickly ended up with tons of palm fronds. MY SALVATION is that my soil is so horrible here that shredded ANYTHING will help the rock-hard caliche. If undisturbed, the ultra-fine dust above the caliche (think "limestone") will return to rock-hard in a few years. All I have to do is plow this DEEP into the ground, and it will at least keep the dirt loosened. But I prefer burying shredded material, not whole fronds.

I don't know where this was filmed but especially in California I would advise against shredding Canary Island Date Palm fronds that are not completely brown/dry. This is because the smell they give off attracts those Palm Wevils that burrow into the palms and kill them. They'll be attracted close enough to the freshly trimmed palm, of which they burrow in via the bases of the freshly cut fronds. Even cutting green fonds without shredding is enough to attract them.

What is the name of that shredder? Normally the fibers will kill the machine
@Something2LookAt
@Something2LookAt 8 жыл бұрын
Well, this one is a Stanley and they no longer make it. The exact same machine is being made by Brush Master now and it's called the Brushmaster CH8. And true, fiberous stuff like palm fronds do not bind up this machine.

Thank you for your info. Do you know who makes the Brushmaster CH8? I live in Chile and it seems that special stores in USA sell them. So I would like to know the manufacturers name if you have it off course. Here we have a lot of those palm trees and no chippers will shred them due to the fibers. So that's why I'm so interested.

You really should only remove brown leaves from palms. Palms absorb nutrients from older yellowing fronds to put into their new growth.

But some things are hard on plants like eucalyptus. I would like to dig something in below the raised beds to improve drainage and raise the surface of the soil, since irises are susceptable to rot in my clay soil.
