Gorilla Youngsters Who Cannot Meet Forever | Gentaro♂ & Annie♀

Thank you for your care and time spent in providing us with this information. To ignore the benefits of uniting Gentaro and Annie doesn't make real sense, and as for splitting up D’jeeco’s troop, that is deplorable. Because zoos in Japan don’t seem to have the space for proper habitat, the captive gorillas suffer, confined to just one or two gorillas or ones put in solitary confinement, like the two mentioned in the video. I am also concerned for Gentaro’s immediate future and see a danger of him staying with Father Momotaro. Let him be with Annie, please!

This is along the lines of what I read myself, however, the last thing I read about 2 months ago, was that there were not enough Staff to take care of what they have now...maybe that's changed...at any rate, they need a facility to get Gentaro out of Kyoto because the time will come where some real harm will happen. He is nearly a silverback now.

Silver back gorilla D'jeco has wonderful family. Jabaly and Ringo, they are having a joyful life with their parents .So i think Neither Iriki nor Tayari would separate for shake of their kids.

I HATE this idea and here’s why. Tayari and Iriki are happy in D’Jeeco’s troop. I would hate either of them to be uprooted from all they know to be breeding machines for Japan. Just the idea makes me want to cry. The distress of separation, the trauma of transport, then a lower standard of care. Plus they’ll be old in gorilla terms by then. I accept that Jabali and Ringo will one day leave their mothers but I want the 2 boys to be together for as long as they are bonded. Why oh why doesn’t Kyoto do the logical and sensible thing of pairing Gentaro and Annie?! It makes no sense! Same age, closer geographically, both adapted to Japans lower standard of care. I’m miserable now.

Just want to add that the way zoos ship animals around the world multiple times is disgusting. We saw what Momotaro experienced when he moved to Kyoto. He’s still traumatised when he sees white helmets. Iriki and Tayari already experienced the pain of separating from their family against their wishes and being flown in a crate across the world. Please don’t put them through it again. :(

The fact is that Tayari and Iriki are half-sisters. They grew up together and were transported together too. The family gets along well with each other, with the children and with their male. I don’t understand why they should be separated? Just to cause terrible stress, to break their psyche???

Kyoto Zoo really needs to consider the more Gentaro grows the more conflict there could be in his troop, Daddy is king, Gentaro will more than likely be big enough to challenge dad (Momotaro) at times possibly leading to fatal results, so before that happens within a couple of years they need to move Gentaro out to breed, to have his own troop, he’s already 12 yrs now, almost in his prime. The Zoo has the money for Christ sakes, it’s all about the Gorillas!

It cannot mean one of the current females, but a girl yet unborn that would be of age in that time frame. But in the wild, it is perfectly healthy and normal for a female to leave her weaned child with the silverback and move onto greener pastures. Just seems so unlikely to me though. That Taiwan would hamper their existing effective troop for some other animal. They must mean a girl yet to come.

Thank you for the information and your insight. It’s crazy to think Iriki or Tay would be a mate for Gentaro. I love them all. I couldn’t imagine one of them being taken away from their silverback whom they are accustomed to and have a great bond with them. I always thought Annie would be the best choice. I am happy to know that the other zoo Gentaro is owed by is building a new area for him but 10 years good lord. What are they going to do with him until then. Let him live in isolation like Monta. This will destroy is wonderful social skills. Sounds like Japan has a mess in their hands and it’s in their best interest for find solutions that can take place in the next couple of years. They need to work with more zoo all across the world to make things happen.

If the year is accurate-and they aren't always, Gentaro be like 23 before it's even completed....that's 11 years from now... And what happens to him from now to 2034? This is an ambitious project, there can be delays.....don't get me wrong, it's a great idea, but he shouldn't have to wait that long to relocate somewhere.

大猩猩是一夫多妻制的, 就算會從海外引進一隻母猩猩跟元太郎配對, 安妮仍可以同時配對. 只是這隻海外母猩猩應該不會是Tayari或是Iriki, 別忘了她們的孩子都還小. 人類別太自以為是, 總是按自己的想法去幫動物配對, 隨便移動他們, 結果造作動物不適應而憂鬱, 一再再的悲劇難道人類仍要堅持己見? 在孩子還小時隨意分開母子, 可能會造成母親跟孩子都不適應而憂鬱, 甚至可能D'jeeco也不能接受. 今年Tayari的兒子Jabali手指受傷, 為了要治療Jabali的手指將他跟媽媽分開獨自一籠, 結果Tayari崩潰尖叫, D'jeeco在戶外撞門, Jabali治療回來後有好一段時間非常敏感緊張, 不時跟隨著媽媽. 在我看來, D'jeecoj家族雖然偶有些小紛爭, 但那是日常生活, 這家族感情很親密, 吃飯睡覺活動都緊密在一起. 老婆跟著老公行動, 小孩睡覺喝奶時跟著媽媽, 玩耍時跟著爸爸. 所以至少在孩子未成年之前, 不能將這家族分開, 否則會造成不可預料的結果.

其實，就算真的要移動大猩猩，也要經過歐洲動物園水族館協會的專業評估，並不是只要台北或京都有意願就行。理論上，已經形成的繁殖群通常不會再把牠們拆開，只有在群體中出生的孩子在長大後會被移到其他單位，所以未來比較有可能去國外的應該是Jabali跟Ringo。我曾詢問過荷蘭網友關於Iriki或Tayari會不會再回荷蘭的問題，該網友是認為除非有必要，否則應該不會。

Well in the interest of making sure the gorilla DNA is as diversified as possible I see why they would be looking from farther away. It just keeps the door open for Annie in Japan. The Shabani troop is a good example of it being rather closed off to both Annie and to Kiyomasa as they are both directly related to every gorilla in that troop.

Not enough food for Rola and Monta. No bedding just a tiny bit of enrichment. I looked on trip advisor and the reviews for depressed animals not getting their needs met. Their scale was broken and Rola is getting very thin. They are living a life of deprivation.

I am very happy to hear any news about Gentaro, Annie or Kiyo or the two older sisters (Momoka & Komomo) in the Haoko family. That's a long way off for Gentaro to be with Iriki or Tayari, but at least it's some hope. This all should have been planned out before Genki even got pregnant. Matter of fact, for all gorilla mom's it should have been planned. Knowing where the gorilla baby is going when it's time to move out would have been responsible. But Japan was not at all responsible with that. However, what's done is done and now it just has to be fixed. Now the zoos are stuck with a bunch of gorillas that need to be moved and have nowhere to go. I am very grateful for the information (you) have given as I too love all these gorilla families but had to take a break from watching and information collecting, because it was getting too sad with the Momotaro family and it was making me feel very sad for them. I knew about that agreement with the zoo with the D'jeeco family a while ago, but didn't know how that would help with Momo's family. Since the babies are both toddler boys and I didn't think they would take one of "D'jeeco's "wives" for Gentaro. Like you said, the toddlers are going to need their moms for a long time but knowing there is some hope for Gentaro is good news. As for getting a gorilla from another country everything I have read or know about, says no country will send another of their gorillas to Japan because of what happened to both Genki-the weight loss, sickness, self mutilating, etc(1997-1999) and Momotaro's father-Biju, who was sent from England in 1997 only to suffocate to death(1999) at only 12 years old, when he was put in with those 3 other gorillas. You know Japan originally claimed it was a heart attack for a long time, but the autopsy- report was eventually changed to " cause of death as Suffocation/asphyxiation"..... This was over 20 years ago, and japan never followed through with building a gorilla conversation with England and the first gorilla they sent over who was Momo's father-Biju back in 1997. *********If you have more information that contradicts that, I would love to know that. As my heart aches for these poor gorillas in Japan.******** You could comment if you have better news than I have heard/read through the journals. 😊 I can understand why the other countries will not send other gorillas, but for the gorillas Japan already has, I hope someone will send some gorilla mates over so the gorillas japan has already, can live their lives happy or at least not alone. Japan had so many gorilla deaths that they went from like 90 something gorillas in the 90's, to the small number of 20 something that they have now. **** That speaks volumes about the care they receive in Japan's zoos. Even some of Japan's own people say gorillas should not be kept in Japan. The keepers are wonderful and I know they love the gorillas, but if the head honchos don't give the individual facilities money to feed, house, and medically treat them and provide environments that can enrich their lives, then the current gorilla females should all be on birth control until every gorilla they have including the babies have a home they know the infant can sent it to when it's time to leave the "nest". As everything in this world, it all comes down to $$$$$$$$$. The baby gorillas make the zoo's money and they will not give that up, and the animals suffer for it.

Well,a D’jeeco videographer told me that Jabali would be returning to the Netherlands when he’s older. So I’m thinking it would be Tayari. She would seem like the right choice but she would probably go on a hunger strike if separated from the love of her life! Iriki is more easy going but prone to stress issues! She would go nude from hair pulling and probably pluck the hell out of Gentaro. Great two nude gorillas! I’ve seen a gorilla with very little hair,definitely not a vibe! I don’t see why they don’t let Annie and Gentaro meet and see what’s up! If they aren’t interested then there you go!😬

Будет новый самец, будет и новая любовь и новые дети.Самцы имеют не одну самку.Если Диего предоставят других самок ,он будет только рад.Забудет и детей и этих двух их матерей.И самки тоже так же поступят .Самцам кобелям приводят в год очень много незнакомых самок собак и что...он всех любит ?Он их оплодотворяет и живёт дальше.

I wish Gentaro and his family could all go to the home you described... and encounter other gorillas too. My heart breaks for this little family everytime I watch them, which is often. Keyoto City Zoo isn't a large zoo and I'd love to see all its animals go to santuaries. Even though there are mountains near Keyoto the city is so over populated that even if someone left them big money they couldn't give the animals anymore space. I'd sure hate to see Gentaro and his little brother split up. Momma is old, it'd break her heart to lose either son. Dad is so... he's dying inside because he's prevented from gorilla-ing. 😢 Take the ALL! Please?!

That one zoo is going to build something 1O years from now? What will Gentaro do in the mean time? Be housed in some one room facility off exhibit so no one can see what he is going through? Will Annie just have to continue putting up with Kiyamosa mating with her? Poor little thing! Shame shame on Japan. They do not deserve to have animals in zoos. 🥺

I saw this video a few days ago in English, I cried so much, it made me see human misery, how people feel they have the right to separate animals as if they didn't feel it, Japan, a country of such intelligent people, continues to do this type of nonsense. , I love watching gorilla videos and I follow Japanese families, but I prefer not to continue involving my feelings for when the time of separation comes. My poor Annie and Gentaro dreamed of seeing them together, and having their own family.

Thanks for the info. I thought Kyoto City Zoo was rehabbing the old chimp habitat to house Gentaro in a "bachelor pad" until they can find a recommended site for him, like Lope at Twycross zoo. In the Japan system the only females unrelated to the Momotaro family are Annie and her mother Ai. A move like that would surely be detrimental to the Shabani troop, if not kill Shabani outright. Gentaro may have to leave Japan. The other question is who actually owns Gentaro---UenoZoo or Apenhaul. For example, Momotaro belongs to UenoZoo (his mother's home zoo) and is on loan to Kyoto City Zoo. I believe because of this Gentaro is also not "owned" by Kyoto City Zoo (but Genki is owned by Kyoto City Zoo). Overall, there is a shortage of females throughout the zoo systems. There may be some eligible females of age in Europe or Australia. I don't think it would be a good idea to separate the Taipei Zoo females. They are sisters, and the group is highly bonded. Plus their babies are under age 3 and couldn't protect themselves until ages 5 to 7. Chiba Zoo's gorillas are not bonded through no fault of their own. Apparently Monta wanted to mate but Rola ( AKA Lora) is very afraid of large male gorillas. She was hand raised and doesn't see herself as gorilla. Apparently no one recognized this when they were first paired. How do you handle these two individuals? Do you sacrifice them to spend resources to rebuild the physical space to bring in Gentaro and some unnamed females in hopes of new family lines? Also, where are Gentaro, Kiyomasa, and Lope in the long line of young and mature silverbacks already in long standing bachelor groups globally? I don't know the answer, just putting this out there because moving an individual is not any easy thing. Many points need to be considered for all involved.

I think this is a good idea. Bringing in new genetics is so important. I would have loved to see Annie with Gentaro though. After dealing with Kyomasa she would run rings around Gentaro!😁. Although they really need to completely re-do the areas for Al their animals. I would hate to see Gentaro go to that concrete nightmare right now.

Your viewers have taken a very personal interest in the well being of these gorillas. They are after all real families, and they will experience loss and anxiety over losing members or being moved themselves. Zoo politics has no place in these decisions when it comes to the well being of the animals. Placing Gentaro with Annie seems like THE MOST logical choice with the LEAST amount of disruption or emotional anxiety for the other members of ALL those troops.

I knew about the agreement between Kyoto and Taipei but never assumed it would be the current troop. And I’ve prayed it means sending Kyoto gorillas to Taiwan not the other way round!

This was so interesting to learn all this information. Maybe little Kintaro could be Annie's husband once he is older its so sad that the Chinese zoo keep the gorilla's separate I wonder what the reason is for that, No gorilla should have to live alone that made me sad. That was a fantastic video. But I doubt that Taiwan would give up one of its breeding females, they have a troop that is productive and there will be a female in the next generation. There is a good chance she would be in the right age for this expansion plan. It will be fun watching Annie get integrated into Momo's troop once they bachelor pad Gentaro and likely Kintaro.

Although, maybe the Taiwan zoo has decided that in the wild Tayari would have already left that troop, she is extremely spirited and has taken a hell of a beating..She does not want to be second to anyone. Maybe move one of Haikos daughters in there in her place. But then the ladies have to work out dominance all over again. And Haikos oldest daughter is a lode, just like her moma.

This saddens me, as I had always hoped that sweet Annie and gentle Gentaro would be mates in the future. If it is to be Iriki or Tayari, I hope that it is Iriki because Tayari would not be a good match for Gentaro personality wise. She is too strong willed, and he is more passive. D’jeeko knows how to handle her. I can tell how much you care for these amazing animals, I wish that everything was not always about money and trade deals. 😢🦍

It would be a bad idea to take either Iriki or Tayari away from D’Jeeco, as they,along with their two children, are a happy, loving family! Also, to make Gentaro and a prospective female wait a few years to firm a family, seems extreme. Then, there is the topic of where Komomo and Momoka will be placed…unfortunately it cannot be with Gentaro.

仙台にも今は亡きゴリラが飼育されていた場所がありました。現時点ではどうなってるか分かりませんが、飼育場所はあるけど所有とかの問題があるからなかなか踏み込めないんでしょうかね？ 詳しくは分かりませんが、キヨマサもどうなる事やら、なんか問題山積みですね。ゴリラも人間と同じく高齢になるのに。早めに行動して頂きたいですね。
