These videos are great mate!! I need to do a classic mini diy KZbin marathon and watch them all I think. (1971 mini 1310)

Currently having issues with engine cutting out when revving. Welcome your thoughts. Basically I’m going to spend today checking timing, compression and then fueling as it’s been about 8 years since last driven regularly.

+Cole Slaw I know exactly how u fell haha, my minus heater only blows cold, any idea how I can fix it?
@coleslaw713218 жыл бұрын
+Brad's Broadcast could be two things. First check on the top left of your cylinder head, you'll see a small either manual turn valve or little plunger on a hinge. Check to make sure that isn't stuck shut. If that is open and feeding the inside of the motor coolant then I would wager your heater core may be clogged. This can be resolved by pulling the heater core out and flushing it with a hose. I have a radiator flush video on my cmdiy channel which shows how to flush the radiator. It's the same concept but with the smaller heater core. Be careful if you do this, it's a messy job with the potential to get coolant inside your car. Use a catch pan and be prepared for lots of coolant. Take care!

does anyone know why the dashpot would be empty of oil after topping it up and leaving it overnight? the car has been running fine and started stuttering sometimes now so I am learning about this things.

I enjoy these videos. They are well made, to the point and very well narrated. Please keep 'em coming. I have an issue with my headlights - they are not working. I do not think the issue is the fuses, it may be the switch. My Mini is a '92 1275 engine too. Thanks!!
@classicminidiy8 жыл бұрын
+NReneCrazyCoolReveiwsChannel Glad you enjoy them! Thanks for the feedback. I would check the fuses just to be sure. But if the switches are anything like my mk1 switches they break constantly. :-| If that doesn't do it, follow the wire all the way from the switch to the headlights and make sure there are no tears/exposed areas to ensure there isn't a short. Good luck!

Any reason why you can't fill up the plunger reservoir with oil before adding the spring and cover?
@classicminidiy3 жыл бұрын
You can if you want to. I find it easier to fill and prevent excess spilling by filling it after its on the car already.

Hey i know that video is old and i don't expect a answer but my question is does this video apply to triumph spitfire carburetors as well? Greetings from Austria
@classicminidiy2 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for watching! Yes this should apply to any car that ran an SU style carburetor. Basically a carb that has the dash pot on top.

Can we use engine lubricant to dash pot ?
@classicminidiy3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can but your throttle behavior might be a bit different than standard dash pot oil and you may need to adjust the tune of your car a bit.

Hi. My classic mini 1968 Morris is overheating and i dont know why! The radiator is full and working, i had to top up the engine oil with about 200ml (half a pint more or less) It is still in the red. it started yesterday. When i stopped at the local gas station i could still touch the head and i could take the radiator cap off without water spewing everywhere. I am going to flush the radiator tonight and check the carburetor dash pots as someone told me the dash pots could also be a reason for overheating ( dont know if ts true ). Can someone please help. I just want to know what is wrong with it or where i should start checking for the problem. Thank you for the tutorial. Hugo - South Africa

Ever since I lost an engine, it has been check fan belt first, (Unless visible leak.) then fluid level, clutch fan, then what has caused it most often with me the thermostat. Those things easy to check. Harder to check are bad bearings.

How long will the oil last for? Thank you
@classicminidiy5 жыл бұрын
Mine usually lasts for about a year or so. After a year i just check the levels and make sure it’s still running nicely.

Great vid. As Im new to SU carbs. I have a couple of questions. Does the oil diminish at all? Or does its level stay the same? And how often does one have to change said oil?
@classicminidiy6 жыл бұрын
Oil does seem to diminish over a long period of time. I generally just top it off each time I tune the car (every 6 months or so)
@jarradjack84977 жыл бұрын
hello, what level should the oil sit at? love the videos!
@classicminidiy7 жыл бұрын
I would fill it up just so you can see the level a couple mm away from the top. When you drop the plunger in there it will dump out a bit and the first few times you drive it will equalize when the float moves up and down.
@no664 жыл бұрын
Good video. However don't use the word float for the plunger. The float is in the float bowl that regulates the fuel to the carb.

Yeah there were a few mistakes in my verbiage in this episode. I might actually redo this video at some point since this was one of my very first! Thanks for adding some clarity though. :-)

What kind of oil that can be? Is 20w50 as like the engine is ok or would it be too thick?
@classicminidiy6 жыл бұрын
There is a specific SU carb oil but if your engine is modified at all 20w synthetic(not 20w50) is recommended.

They're not floats they are plungers, the floats are in the float chambers.
