Hi Cole, great vids mate. When working on my minis, I only wear the Australian specific and approved safety footwear, 'thongs'! You refer to them as flip flopps. Gets a little risky when welding but just adds to the excitement of the mini! I'm getting close to completion of my '68 Mk1 mini which will join it's stable mate a '73 hydrolastic Clubman.

Hahaha I always thought it was funny most of the rest of the world calls them thongs. It makes sense but we call women's underwear that is very....simple, thongs.

I think you mean Jandals.

@classicminidiy Turn your Oil Filler 3000 into an Oil Filler 4000, by adding a small hose inside the funnel and into the cap (glue on or whatever you like), to get the air out as you fill, then no glugging/splashing or leaks.

Hey Cole! Loving all your videos. Would love to see a video or series about SPIs, common issues, etc. I know SMCO has one but was wondering if you had anything to add. Or maybe one about the JDM minis with the air conditioning! Definitely not enough videos about the AC maintenance.
@classicminidiy2 жыл бұрын
Hey Dennis! I would love to do more videos on SPI's but I don't have one thats easy access for me to film on and unfortunately they were never sold in the USA. :-( That said if I get one in the future I will be sure to film lots on it!

Currently Running Amsoil 10w40 Zrod. Will be doing a oil analysis after a 1000 miles. It would also be great to cut open a oil filter and see how much debris is in there too.

I know this is an old video but I needed a refresher and of course I trust you the most for Classic Mini DIY guidance ... FYI the Amazon link in the info is dead

Thank you, Yvonne! I will fix that link too.

I’ve been running the Penngrade oil. Likely because I came across your video when I first got my car and because they sponsored the Indy 500 (don’t judge me there). It seems to work well enough. Great video as always!
@classicminidiy2 жыл бұрын
Good stuff! It's great oil and no judgement on the Indy 500 all cars are cool :-)

PAO/AN/Ester based oil in 20W50 by HPL. Alkylated Naphtalenes are great at cleaning the engine. Esters are also an incredible base oil that cleans the engine and removes sludge and crud from the engine. this oil is cleaning my engine, piston rings and gear box while i drive. i use Fram xg3600. what's not to love?
@rocfella2 жыл бұрын
in 60s, 70s and 80s mineral 20w50 probably didnt stay thick when it got hot. probably modern 10w40 stays thicker and it also provides good lubrication at start up when most wear occurs.

Greetings Cole! A really great video with appropriate information. The gold plug ap-17? has a gold plated tip as it deems it chemically inactive, so no corrosion and no reactions with the hot or cold engine oil. I have read that 1000miles for running in oil is not recommended by some mini gurus. Correct me if you were instructed differently by Hickey or turbo mini master. Are your tires sufficient now that you have twice normal torque. Do you have any suggestions for 10 inch wheels? Are you going to try a32 yokohamas? Or Hoosiers? Thank you for your really nice channel and classic mini work throughout these difficult times.

Cole, does HEL a make a remote filter kit for the automatic transmission? That shit leaks all the time, cool video as always
@markbolmida68042 жыл бұрын
What Blackstone Oil Analysis did you do. When I looked at their website they seemed to be for engine only and not transmission. Why did you do it and what did you learn from it?

Does the Mini Clubman 1100 also take 5L of Oil? Thanks
@classicminidiy2 ай бұрын
Yup all the mini engines take the same amount of oil if they don’t have an oil cooler
@cmonson122s2 жыл бұрын
Did you make the AN lines? Or did you order a set from HEL?
@classicminidiy2 жыл бұрын
The AN lines on this part of the setup, I made myself. They were however lines from HEL. I just bought the fittings, hoses, and adapters directly from them and made the lines myself here. They make them if you want a premade setup, or can send you the bits to DIY.

Cole, has anyone tried running a synthetic motor oil in a Mini?
@timsminigarage2 жыл бұрын
I have recently swapped to a semi synthetic 10/40. The key thing to avoid is any "friction modified" oils as these will prevent the synchros from working properly. There is a paper here by an oil engineer if you want some further details. www.widman.biz/mini_pics/classic-mini-oil.pdf
@classicminidiy2 жыл бұрын
The penngrade is a semi synthetic. I probably wouldn't use a synthetic if the engine hasn't been rebuilt with newer gaskets but the semi-synthetics have been great in my car for years and years.

Cole, my Mini 1275 Spi standard. I use tige car 6 months +/-1500 miles. Then it sits for 6 months. Dry weather. Must change oil once a year?Any other recommendations? Thanks in advance
@classicminidiy2 жыл бұрын
I personally would change it at the beginning of each driving season in your case. So once a year or so to be safe.

The original oil for a mini was Castrol motor oil😉

Ah nice! I didnt know that. I used Castrol in my car for some time too. Good conventional oil
