Bret was initially not overjoyed having to go to Memphis, but he did end up having a lot of fun there. Bret is my favorite wrestler of all time and I found his book to be an absolute revelation. That said, there is a fair amount of narrative in that book by Bret Hart and the idea that either Warrior or Hulk Hogan would've submitted to a Sharpshooter in 1993 is a Bret Hart fantasy plain and simple. Babyfaces by and large did not submit as a means of working a finish in the early nineties. That is somewhat of a modern concept in professional wrestling that babyfaces can tap out and not lose their heat. There is no way that a babyface with any amount of clout (of which Hogan and Warrior had plenty) would've agreed to a submission finish in '93. I mean in late 1992 when they had to pass the belt back to Ric Flair from Randy Savage, they didn't even allow Savage to submit to Flair who was a heel at the time. They just passed him out in the figure four so Savage wouldn't lose his heat by submitting to a heel. There was no way WWE were going to allow a babyface to submit to another babyface which means that Hart's big wins over Hogan or Warrior in 1993 if they would've happened would've likely been him either small packaging them or schoolboying them for a victory (for reference see how he defeated Rowdy Piper at Wrestlemania 8).
@MrBooBeeDoo3 жыл бұрын
He didn't say that was the plan. When Warrior was fired he says something like "my vision of having Warrior tap out to the sharpshooter at Wrestlemania was over.." Keyword: Vision. Just a dream in his head.

I swear, the older I get, and the more I learn, the less I understand about taking the strap off Bret and putting it on Hogan. Hogan refused to give a firm commitment, and they put the belt on him anyway?? Yeah, I'm with Conrad on that one...everything about it screams "didn't have faith in Bret."
@stevepmg92023 жыл бұрын
Hogan says he sold Vince on it so he could get one last payoff and that his angle was "If you're going with Yoko let me put him over because we both know I'm pretty much finished here." Because winning the belt (in the end) from Hogan would have been a bigger deal than winning it from Bret. Except thats nonsense because Bret wasnt going to lose it to Yoko at Mania IX ; he only got told he was losing instead of winning the day before, so he only ended up losing because they were giving it to Hogan for one more run. So instead of keeping faith with Bret they decided to have another Hogan run while figuring out who else they could try, which ended up being Lex.

A lot of bandwagon wrestling fans say Bret Hart wasn’t drawing and guys like Steve Austin were better because they made more money that might be the case, but you have to understand this. Steve Austin would not be that popular if he had not fought Bret Hart at wrestlemania 13 that match alone made Austin a star and later in that year they screw him at the survivor series 1997 for all the work he did in the WWF that proved how shady the wrestling business really is and WCW had one of the hottest free agents fresh off the screw job, but Eric Bishoff was too busy stroking hogan’s ego and something else of his if you know what I mean, this is why Bret Harts wrestling career and did the way it did
