This is gonna be a hot or controversial take but: no art style is ever original if you can learn that style somebody else can nobody is copying you
@Tries_To_Draw6 күн бұрын
Yep, my art style was just me seeing other people’s art, taking it apart and choosing my favourite things, like the nose eyes or hair style from them and mush it all together into my own. I even think in different art styles sometimes.

I don't get when people are like "DON'T TAKE HEAVY INSPO!!!" and I'm like... what... It's such a compliment when someone is inspired by me! It would be annoying if they were claiming that their stuff is completely original though and doing it repeatedly, but i feel so flattered when someone is inspired by me!!

I’ll be honest, I’ve taken heavy inspo from an art style before, and I do regret it, although it was simply because I enjoyed the style and I wanted to improve. After a bit, the original artist dmed me about it and I said sorry, and ASSUMED we’d both just moved on with life, but when I tell you this person MOCKED ME for absolutely MONTHS (copying things, making drawings out of spite, etc) over an artstyle. Now they HAVE said sorry recently, and I do really appreciate it, but it still made me uncomfortable when it was happening. 😭

That "stealing ocs" part took me back to when I was 9 and I stole many of my used-to-be favorite artist's characters out of "spite" (I was obviously in love with them 😭)

Artists are way too overprotective of their art styles nowadays. All these "style theft," "pose theft," and "color pallet theft," allegations keep popping up every few weeks and it just further perpetuates and encourages hostility in the art community. It’s as if just being inspired by an artist is a crime. Copying allegations get even more ridiculous when neither artists monetize their art nor have any intentions of being an industry professional. Your following isn’t gonna vanish just because someone “copied” your art style. People follow and support more than one artists all the time. I purposely follow artists with similar styles because if I like the style, I want to see more of it from different people. Plus, no matter how similar someone’s style is to another, they’ll never be a perfect 1 to 1 recreations. Art styles are like hand writing. There’ll always be tiny details that are unique to the individual whether they notice or not. A lot of artists keep forgetting their roots of copying art styles. They wouldn’t like it if their favorite artists harassed them for copying, so why do that to other artists? It just causes a negative feedback loop of unhelpful hostility.

Imitation is the best form of flattery. Obviously passing off someone’s work or designs as your own is wrong. But we learn from each other and copying can help you so much.

Great video! I think I may come off as harsh, but (depending on the context) if someone gets upset about inspiration to the point of making callouts, having fits and such… they should keep their stuff private. Friends only or not posted online at all. Inspiration isn’t even always intentional and as you said people can just have similar ideas. Hell, it’s upsetting to see people equate inspiration with copying. Which further drives the community apart, when really now, (in the age of AI) we need to come together.

8:28 Yippie!- I agree with how the video puts the concept of the issue to light! Blatantly, I feel like people should really just- Calm down when it comes to someone taking inspiration, the amount of hate bandwagons that have happened so often is insane- Like, It wouldn't be an issue if the person just said they were uncomfortable with it...But, It never stops there and for some reason, An entire doc with issues that don't even connect to why the person was originally peeved(And at most, Gloss over an ACTUAL issue like it's just a piece of trash on the ground, And that within itself is all around icky to just...Throw an actually worrying issue like it's a little 'Oopsie' or use it to blame the person their talking about). I swear, Huge Artist's or anyone in general, Just find random things in a beginners art and dump all over them like they just won an award by making an artist feel like absolutely doodoo about their art cause god forbid they take inspiration or they are proud of how well their art has come to their eyes.

When I started the video I was gonna comment something like “carrot have you watched Arcane? If so I would love to see some of the characters in your style and if not you should watch it!” And then the second I noticed the jawline and the hair I was like oh wait she’s drawing twink Jesus huzzah

Similar thing happened to me, but I was that ‘small artist’ taking inspiration or tracing from a bigger artist, posting the art everywhere I could TikTok, Instagram, and other social media… and I even started doing KZbin because of the heavily inspiration from said artist, I even started doing my watermark like their and my intro for my channel but then I seen how problematic that was, so I went through trying to delete the traced artwork and changed my style completely which was difficult cause I’ve been “tracing” that artist style for a while, 😅😅😅 but needless to say I learned from the mistake and now I try to be light with my inspirations and trying to convert it more into my style as much as possible for me, and changing my watermark completely… and the hate from that artist supporters really tore me up thou….. 😢😢😢 it damn near made me cry now I feel terrible and constantly trash talk myself for doing that

yoo new video!!, i agree with it, some people are so over-protective of their artstyle that it becomes annoying, expecially in places such as instagram/tiktok (what a surprise....) and the fact some people make google docs (and also harassing people) over people "copying" their artstyle acting like inspiration is ilegal (unless the evidence for copying/reposting/etc is valid ofc), it's weird lol, nothing is original.

Whenever I make an OC, I hope to inspire people to make their own OCs. If you, however, take something like my concept for deer people (tchara) and the name, then we have a problem. But only then. If you take my concept and change it to fit your world, I don't care, if you take the name, go ahead, but please if you name your deer people specifically Tchara, then please credit the source. Otherwise, if you want to change up the name, then go ahead and change it slightly, or a lot, I won't take credit for that. It's just, Tchara is a combination of the word "deer" in two of my conlangs, Tarao (coming from the tarot root) and čare (inspired by the Bosnian language itself) (č is pronounced ch) and I love those conlangs, because they're the conlangs that these deer people mainly use, so it's an integral part of the languages too and Tchara means "person" in both. Also, this whole concept is inspired by a DND OC I saw online and then it just developed into this culture.

Ppl thought they coping artists' artstyle and they got jealous the each artists' skilled style. Ppl maybe ok to take break and learn their own artstyle to grow while they are offline. Im ok ppl take inspiration from other artists. Small artists have try their best without feeling annoyed how their art is bad. Professional artists already special skills but small and big artists still try their best.

Nobody can do anything if some artist takes heavy inspo or if they copy someone’s art style 🤷♀️. These artists just do whatever they want and it isn’t a big deal because it’s not art theft. All art is inspired by something anyways so there’s no need for artists to try and cancel someone for that

This seems like a hot take but no art style is original no matter who you get inspiration from or copying an art style. It's a learning curve on trying to find your style, especially with people say not to take "heavy inspo" on them, as I get older. I don't really care who "copy" my art style. That's the truth
