I'm at an age when I can remember certain food being unavailable in the shops, because they were 'out of season'. I also remember the produce was less uniform and tastier in those days, and there was a greater appreciation of it.

Nature is our greatest teacher. Winter is now here to tell us to slow down. To recharge and rest our body and mind. We live in a culture where we need to be non stop active and productive. But this is so against our nature. Thank you for your content Seth, always an inspiration

I does seem as though most people are perpetually fighting what is, with what they think ought to be. We lament the cold in winter and the heat in summer. We wish we were older in our youth and younger when we grow old. I guess the balance is the sweet spot; the blooming of the flower before it withers and gives way. Perfect and yet fleeting. All we can do is appreciate what is, until it no longer is, and understand that "the end is important in all things.".

you pretty much perfectly described what ouroboros means to me. changing of the seasons, cycles in our lives. but yeah, in our culture it’s almost as if the head of the snake is hateful, all absorbing. when i think in reality, the snake itself is completely unaware of what it is doing. it’s simply doing what it’s supposed to do, and not forcing that to happen. i just subscribed.

I remember reading somewhere that people who are drawn towards extremes are usually doing so as a defence mechanism. Solidifying some sense of "sureness" (because we all fear the unknown to an extent) when they feel a sense of uncontrol. even if its not intentional. Not sure the root of this is true but - maybe something to ponder. I'm definitely in category sometimes

Hi Seth from Madison, Wisconsin! I have a blood circulation problem (Raynaud's) and because of this, I've conditioned myself to see the cold as a personal affront to my livelihood lol. So in time, this season has to evolved to one of pain/fighting/overcoming and coming face to face with my body's flaws. I've found that winter amplifies a lot of different underlying pain that can go unnoticed during the warmer months, which mirrors your conversation about avoiding rather than confronting that darkness. Anyway, I really appreciate your long form content, and willingness to sit with some heavier topics!

hey, I love this long-form content so much and hearing you talk about the exact same things that I am experiencing and thinking about during this season of darkness, cold, but so much inherent beauty. I really hope you keep going with this format, you're truly inspiring me to double down on the path I was already on. winter is filled with so much wisdom and beauty if you let it be, I really hope more people will open up to this

Thank you for this video, it really resonated with me. My PhD is in anthropology and I research Transhumance (which is basically the seasonal migration of livestock from lowlands to highlands, usually in mountainous regions such as Türkiye and Mongolia). To people who practice Transhumance, working with what each season brings you and your animals is absolutely at the heart of day-to-day life. It has made me reflect so much on how I live, and it is wonderful to hear this type of rhetoric in a completely different context. Enjoy your channel!

my personal philosophy has for a long time been about the nonbinary nature of gender, of life, of morality, of purpose. its not that dualities dont exist, but that they are flat circles, they are spectrums.. waves. ive been trying so hard to be as feminine as i can in response to my fear of masculinism, but im throwing things in my life off balance.

Hi Seth, what a captivating stream of consciousness. The way you describe polarity is refreshing - I wrote a piece that explores similar concepts of our polarised society, specifically in terms of meat eating and veganism. I’m an environmental science student in Devon, so it’s a little more formal. You turning this idea into an art form is so clever and being able to talk so clearly whilst remaining authentic is very inspiring. Thank you!

Re your bit about calling eating meat bad, I'd note that a crucial, arguably more so, reason that people point out that eating meat "is bad" is because of the environmental and climate impacts of intensive animal agriculture, rather than due to the suffering of intensive animal agriculture. So in that sense it may not be particularly related to any extrapolation of the symbolic or ritualistic aspects of "the hunt", at least for people who associate more with the climate impacts than the animal suffering. Great video. Good vibes. You the man.

I think he did mean that, but mentioning that I feel is quite obvious and out of the scope of the topic of the video. Even still, his argument is still the same. Veganism is an extreme response that is a form of polarisation. By that nature, it isn't a proper solution to the meat industry crisis. It appears to work for some people, but if we want to actually help society, it's easier and more effective to promote a "reducetarian" lifestyle. This sits closer to the middle, and is something more people can agree on and actually do.

This was helpful, thank you. Some of the main thoughts were already forming in my mind, and you put them into place very nicely. One thing this video was the most helpful for me is masculine vs feminine energy. It’s a bit of a shaky theme for me, because I couldn’t find myself in it. Some of the behaviours that are traditionally associated with feminine feel unnatural to me, and so, I thought that I should fall into the other side. Because of that, the feminine was trapped inside of me and I felt uncomfortable showing it. As you may have guessed, I did not feel comfortable being all the way masculine too. But the more I was thinking about it, the more I realised that the ways of being feminine that feel natural to me are just not exactly what is expected from a woman. I’m learning to be in tune with the inner feeling - how do I feel today? Also, I’m learning how to not expect to be always on one side or exactly in the middle. I can just follow the feeling. So, thank you for the video, you form words out of thoughts very well in my opinion. Peace and love

YES! THANK YOU, i had this exact same thought watching through when he got to the extreme feminism part. like i know i’ve always enjoyed being a girl, but also being too girly exposes you a lot of the time growing up. as i looked around my room, i saw my makeup messily thrown across my nightstand. i always thought to be tougher is to be a stronger woman, but that’s without seeing that the stronger PERSON is the one who can embrace themselves for who they are, what they came from, what lead them to becoming who they are and learning to let go. i’m glad someone else kind of had that thought too, for a second i feared i was a bad feminist 😂

Hey, I think you missed a keypoint. I essentially agree with most of what you said, but I'd like to present a little semiotic twist: 1) when introducing the thesis of not understanding the polarity of things, you are jumping from a cultural perspective to subjective perspective and back quite a few times. Even though I think that these two are complementary opposites that cannot be separated, I think we should focus on subjective perspective to really get to the point, because 2) the point is essentially a semiotic problem. Lets draw two semiotic triangles laid back to back, sharing the vertexes of the object and the interpretant, but the "signs" are in opposite vertexes sharing a horizontal line - this is basically what you are talking about - the signs are the context in which we understand the object of interest. 3) The opposition is not the problem. The problem is absolutizing each opposite as the most opposite as it can get. Absolutization of an interpretation is what stops the progress of thought. 4) We are unable to learn the true nature of the context, so lets extend the shared horizontal line into infinity on both sides - thats the only way to visualize the un-absolutability of the context of a sign. We cannot know the true nature, but we know there is some (referring to the Russels paradox etc) 5) This should prevent us from self-identifying in an absolute way, right? I believe until now im only rephrasing your words, but then you use a phrase "we are meant to be" - and thats where I have to disagree. Anyway, it was my girlfriend who has sent me this video, stating that we are drawing the same conclusions, but each from a different perspective. She was so right! Thank god for her!

Hey Zoey, thank you for pulling me up on this. I can see what I said was paradoxical. My understanding this that feminism about equality for both men and women. What I should have said was "a movement that goes beyond equality and starts to hate and shame men," which of course isnt feminism.

this is a topic i struggle with myself, but to me extreme feminism manifests the exact same way the patriarchy exists. feminism, to its core is about finding the middle, a matriarchy however is not only an undoing of patriarchal terms, but a repetition of that hatred. kinda like people who experience trauma often will inflict the same pain onto those around them. i think at least, it’s just a theory. A GAME THEORY.

I believe in the extremes being similar in many cases. BUT, I also think as a philosophy this thinking can often lead to faulty thinking if we’re not careful. The opposite of domestic abuse or slavery are not also extreme. Even though those things were legal for centuries in the western world. And in the same way, though I see dogmatism in many vegans, I don’t think veganism is, at its core, extreme

Sweetspot of eating meat is definitely not in the middle. You're looking at meat through an environmental lense, not an ethical one. You cannot ethically eat someone. Be kind, be vegan

@rustyze96 nice strawman off topic. I'm showing you how gratitude does not equal morality by making a comparison. To say that as long as you are grateful for your food it's truly ethical is absurd. If I was grateful for eating a puppy is that the same level of morality as you being grateful for eating a carrot? I think not
