So the target is 1400 meters below sea level. We don't have the necessary equipment yet... but I think we will find what we are looking for as we go deeper. It just occurred to me that maybe this is the bottom of this cave system and I have to go to a different cave to find the 1400 meter alien base! Well I suppose I will find out soon enough.

Francis, as soon as you power OFF the engine - all the creatures levies including immediately loose interest in Cyclops (since no noise) = it's totally SAFE inside, no attacks no nothing

The Cyclops literally has a button labelled "silent running", too. I left all ghost leviathans alive, I think I drove my Cyclops across the lost river entrance more than 20 times, and I only got (vaguely) attacked by the ghost juvenile _once._ Francis is actually a bigger threat to the local wildlife than the kharaa bacteria.

To clarify: a beastie that's already aggressive (red) will attack ONCE when the engine is off. Then it will forget you exist. If it's nearby but hasn't noticed you yet (yellow), turning the engine off renders you absolutely safe. You have to tank the hit, though. If you use the shield to negate the attack, it will stay red and continue to attack until it successfully hits, or times out. It takes a long time chewing on shields before they will stop, though.

The Prawn can pick up small ore, but you need a regular Prawn arm. You can, for example, remove the grapple temporarily, and only re-install it when you need it. This is handy when the poison layer gets deep enough that you can't swim in it.

36:20 The fun way to upgrade the cyclops depth that not many people seem to know is that actively running the shield generator prevents crush damage. So you can turn the shield on, yank the upgrade, modify it and slap it back in.

You'll have to be quick though... That shield drains a ton of power if you're not prepared with all the materials. Saw a stream where the poor dude's sub ran out of power while he was diving outside looking for just one Ruby or titanium or something. I genuinely felt sorry for the streamer. It sounded like such a smart plan.

That's actually a really strategic place to build a base in the Lost River. It's close to lots of important stuff, and the thermal vents mean you can get as much power as you want. Don't really need the bioreactor with all that thermal power available. I'm surprised you didn't build a scanner room, though. The map alone is worthwhile.

Francis, when you were talking about the sound profile at 28:49 that's the bar below the health bar on the HUD when you're piloting the cyclops. Left side of the screen, lower quadrant, beside the compass. If you cycle the engine modes you can see how the sound profile changes and increases as engine speed goes up. It increases leviathan detection and attack distance, with ahead flank causing leviathans to chase you out of their normal range as you're making EXTREME amounts of noise. Anyway, I've been loving the series. Seeing someone take a totally different approach to me in a game I've played through a bunch is really cool. Thanks mate!

What I find most interesting is that there is a Dive Suit upgrade you missed in all your searching. Its probably the data box you couldn't find underneath the wreck in that sparse reef (0,-1). you will understand its importance more shortly.

Two tips: - A prawn suit with no arm upgrade can pick up things. The arm upgrades only take one inventory slot, so what I like to do is keep the drill arm in the storage unit on the prawn until I need it. - If you want to hear the best soundtrack in the game, run your cyclops on flank speed until it catches on fire, you do need to turn the music volume on to hear it though.

Tip: You can grow unlimited mushrooms. Craft a few spare Power Cells and leave them in your Lost river habitat chargers. So every time you are passing by the base you can swap the exhausted batteries with fresh ones instantly. (+good to see you keep spare cells in cyclops, you are going to need them). Tip: you are already growing food in cyclops. Build 3 or 4 med kit fabricators in cyclops too instead of stocking up on how many you think you will need. Tip: The hottest part of the thermal vent is at the very tip of it and not the base.

I would highly recommend you build and install a thermal power converter onto your prawn suit, it means that every time you find a thermal vent you can hang out for a quick minute and completely recharge. It'll help with the power drain on your cyclops.

You can safely upgrade Cyclops Depth Mod w/o building another copy OR going up to safe depth: just build mod station right next to Cyclops mod console, have all the mats in the inv and quickly craft the upgrade: despite ship AI being nervous, Cyclops has quite some health that restores while no damage taken, and it's more than enough to perform the upgrade on the go. Honestly, I've never found the decoys that useful. Silent Running is great... once you get the thermal generator and can use it without worrying about the high power consumption.

If you forget (or want to go quickly) and something attacks you, just use 1 decoy and you'll have plenty of time to move away. And it doesn't drain _that_ much power, if you remember to turn it off when you don't need it (which you should anyway, since you can move faster with silent running disabled).

hehe, great minds think alike! The location you put your mini base is exactly the same spot I use on my playthroughs to put down my deep base. I always found the cyclops cumbersome so never used it, instead I used the sea moth to travel down here and set up my base, then brought down my PWN suit and used that for the last leg of the journey. Also, check out your base building options, you can build a rectangular multi purpose room. This one is much larger than the round one and you can pretty much put everything you need including storage, bio reactor, sushi tank etc. in there. One more little tidbit of knowledge: Power systems are depleted in the order they are built. So if you build your thermal plants first, they will provide all the power you need and only when there's a peak need will your bio reactor get used. So deconstruct and then reconstruct your bio reactor in your base to reduce the load on it. ( maybe also plonk down a second thermal one before doing that )

Use that Cyclops "Silent Running" feature, and move at lower speed, to save some sea creature trouble. And don't forget about those decoys! You'll slow yourself down too much if you get out of the boat to slowly carve every leviathan that comes your way :D As an aside, it's a funny how Marguerit talks on those records. It's like she decided at point that she will make EVERYTHING into a one-liner, a movie trailer quote. She can't say a single word without adding Dramatic Emphasis to it. No wonder she drove Paul crazy. As much as i struggle not to comment for the sake of the blind run, i shall impart 1 pieces of knowledge with as little precision as i can; there's a data box in a wreck with a rather sturdy suit. The other thing i shall disclose is that you'd be amazed to know you can go from the lifepod to places with kyanite in 1 charge of the PRAWN suit. (another thing to note, the PRAWN is really zippy in flat surfaces if you move in diagonal). Love your content, keep it up! Edit: Just for funsies, while you cannot directly consume those pesky predators, what you can do is hatch their eggs in the alien containment and then throw the babies in the bioreactor. For the sake of revenge you can fuel your voyage with the flesh of their offspring, make them the air you breathe, the water you drink and the power that flow through your vehicles and tools :D

slashing episode, i enjoyed seeing the threats be dealt with, not many go to the trouble so it's nice to see something different every so often. You asked about the cyclops hud sonar. That shows a blue aoe of the noise you make and threats to your sub, yellow meaning potential, and red meaning agro and on their way to nibble or attack your sub. The faster you move you'll notice a blue bubble expand showcasing the noise you're making. What you do with this information is up to you.

When I played I was always on slowest speed minding the noise as much as possible. Meanwhile Francis goes as fast as he wants except with breaks to kill all the local wildlife. I think me crawling along at a snail's pace got to my destination faster.

The blue sphere around the sub on the sonar is the sound profile. A creature has to be within it before it will notice you. Slow + Silent Running = almost completely immune. Engines off = nothing will notice you. One easy way to see this is to watch what happens to the sonar display when you move forward. You make more noise while moving than while stationary, and the sphere gets bigger.

Being underwater in the dark is a bit terrifying. I did my open water qualification many years ago and I was just in a lake and they sediment at the bottom got kicked up by one of the people I was with and everyone just disappeared in the mist of dirt it wasn't pitch black but it was enough to scare me especially when 1 of the instructors grabbed my arm out of no where. Having a mini heart attack when you are trying to breathe through a hose is not ideal imo.

A tip, forgetting the cave, sulfur and other useful items out of the riverbed. down and grab it and put it into the prawn suits inventory. FYI the biome you are in is called the Lost River..

The sound profile is under your ship health in the bottom left when piloting the cyclops. Its the squiggly lines icon. The crossed out squiggly lines on the right means run silent mode. Imo, with you killing everything anyway, there's no real need for silent mode. :) Very impressive feat that is, to take the terrifying parts of this underwater horror exploration game and render them useless. Also, I don't think you scanned your orange tablet. Probably good to do that before you use it anywhere.

34:21 If you have the basic claw on the Prawn suit you can pick up the smaller ones without hopping outside. Also if you haven't you should scan the green stuff.

If the knife takes too long, use the Prawn Suit with no arm upgrades equipped. The raw punching does a ton of damage. Plus, it's fun to punch Leviathans.

It can be really handy to put down a platform before building a thermal plant. That way you can do things like put the plant directly over a vent.

just so you know, you don't need to put powercell chargers, just build moonpool and takeout your prawnsuit put it in your moonpool and then switch dead battries into your prawnsuit and then it will start charging it, this is super fast way to charge your dead powercells, it takes few mins to charge all of your cells.

15:14 Stop your engine during an attack. Then go out and fight. The sound attract them. Near a leviathan try using slow speed, to avoid unnecessary attraction, horn is included. And when leaving it behind, always shut down the engine and lights.

You should look into getting the thermal modules for your cyclops and prawnsuit. They are really nice for recharging on the road without needing to build a whole base

enemies are attracted to noise and light, turning the ship off makes the leviathans ignore it almost completely noise is in the bottom left, running slower and rigging for silent running reduces your detection range to leviathans

5:20 There's literally a spectrum of colors in a rainbow. Usually with 4 you pick red, yellow, green, blue. What you don't pick is magenta, a color that is not even in the rainbow.

Honestly, I ignored anything smaller than a leviathan when piloting the Cyclops. The mid-size predators don't do much damage to it, and you can just keep driving. Minor damage self-repairs.

Lantern fruit is nice in a base, where you can put it next to a desalinator. It looks nice, but I don't use it in my Cyclops cause you need to give it more room or the fruit will clip into the wall. Plus, in the Cyclops you need a water source, and lantern fruit isn't.

If only the game devs, or a modder, had thought about developing a module for the Cyclops (and maybe the Seamoth) that would've replaced the Cyclops's ship-like horn and sonar with the sound of a Reaper Leviathan, causing any would-be large predators to flee from the area and hide (except for other leviathans, which might end up getting agitated and enraged, seeing the sound as a territorial threat). That way, perhaps the player would have some more time to mine, build, and explore in relative peace?
